You're an absolute hero for uploading this. I was born in 1984 and shot the Santa Cruz branch extensively in the early 2000's. Your videos are absolute treasures to the next generation.

Thanks, Chris. I lived in SC from 1968-2000. Once upon a time I jumped the local at Capitola and rode it to near Watsonville.

I was born in SC and lived in Capitola/SC till 85'. Not a lot of videos from back then, I wish I could go back in time but this is the closest thing. Thanks.

just came across this. Someone made me think of Capitola when I live in Aptos. In 1983 I had an internship at Capitola Channel 8. I tiny TV station in Capitola. I was 16. I did a video shot from Southern Pacific Railways. I rode on it with my huge VHS recorder and Camera. I also climbed on top of that exact train track that same year and shot video from there down to the beach. Do you remember that little tv station? Maybe on rode on that train with you! I would give anything to see some of the videos I made then...

How long did you work the railroad for Chris? Did you continue when UP bought out SP?

I worked at SP from 1972 to 1992 and then went over to Amtrak on the Caltrain commutes. I soon after that went into Amtrak management. In 1999, I went to work for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board overseeing safety and security for the Caltrain operations contract on a leave from Amtrak. In 2008 I returned to Amtrak for 2 years to qualify for my pension at 60 years old. Retired at age 60 in 2011 spending my last 18 months running the Coast Starlight out of San Luis Obispo and moving to Cambria where I still live.
