Santa Fe, SPSF, EMD, Burlington Northern and Rio Grande 1987 (Part 2.4 of 4)

East Coast Rails to the West 1986-1987 (Parts 1-4). Amtrak's Capitoliners and Philadelphia SEPTA commuter trains whisk along the high-speed electrified Harrisburg line in 1986. Brill "Bullets" on the Norristown High Speed Line are also included. Steam tourist routes include the Blue Mountain & Reading and Strasburg Rail Road. Conrail freights climb through the Appalachian Mountains and around the famous Horseshoe Curve. South of Washington DC, long freight trains traverse the old Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac. In 1987, MARC Budd Rail Diesel Cars served commuters on Chessie System's Baltimore & Ohio railroad. Also included, Norfolk Southern freights in Georgia and Virginia. Then out west, Union Pacific trains hustle across Nebraska. Finally, Burlington Northern, Rio Grande and Santa Fe freights champion the Palmer Divide on Colorado's Joint Line. Pre-merger railroads operated freights with cabooses during this final era.

Hey I really like this video a lot you see train cars of pure Santa Fe and B N. And DRGW and U. P. Railroads and that's great I hope you can make more of these videos of the 1970 s 1980 s. And early 1990 s keep up the good work

I loved seeing the SD60 action in this, same with every Santa Fe unit, the D&RGW GP30, the few Kodachrome ones and so on. I remember talking with someone named Lee Witten about how the Union State in Ogden, Utah originally wanted to preserve a Rio Grande GP30 but there was also an SD40T-2 available. So ultimately, they couldn’t turn down a tunnel motor and took it instead. As much as I would really like to see them preserve a unit like the GP30, I really like the tunnel motors. Edit: At the time of when they chose D&RGW #5371 to the preserved, Rio Grandes GP30s were either sold or scrapped.

I think drgw GP30 3006 is at the Forney Museum in Denver. But don't quote me.

@Walt Loevy From what I have researched, D&RGW GP30 #3006 is still at that museum. Although, I don’t know if it’s still operational or not.
