Im Mexican and I read all the discussion about this deck! All the viewpoints are great, but to thing that my thoughts are better than your thought are just ego things!!! (Devil card). Well I sujest that if you want to know more about my culture go see the movie Coco, and you will understand a little be more about it. I follow La Santa Muerte since 2005 and let me tell you his deck just has the name about her, the deck in fact goes more about how we see the death: ancestors, make fun about die, actually for Día de muertos in México we make some poems call Calaveritas, where we make fun about someone and the death topic. This deck talks about the life after death, and how beautiful my culture is. This deck doesn’t talk about La Santa Muerte, this deck talks about the body without skin, muscles and blood in conjunction with the topic Tarot. That’s all, and it’s beautiful.

The Banditos in the devil card you referenced are Mariachi(musicians), Banditos are bandits or criminals. Gifted this deck to my friend, she loved it!

Hi Kelly! I think on the 9 of Wands she is cutting the plants down because they are wilted and dying. The same plant is in the other Wands but the leaves are healthy. In the Strength card I think it's a nod to the Luche Libre wrestlers in Mexico, the Luchador, who wears a colorful mask. I love that the people in this are all skeletal, they didn't put people with skeletal makeup on. It allows me to have people, without distinguishing features like hair and eye color, age or body type. I love that you can still clearly see expressions though, and he captured thought and feeling really well.

+Linda Cota Ohhh very good point, I’m going to go through each suit with a fine tooth comb as there is just so much to find here!! I also agree that these are purely skeletal figures, we are all bones underneath, the outside doesn’t matter as we are all made of the same basic form, love that-no apparent age, weight, skin color, etc. He really did a wonderful job! Good point on the Luche Libre wrestlers for Strength!

I just got this deck today and I’m in love with it. The one card I like is Santa Muerte. We often forget that death in itself is a rebirth. After death comes life because it’s a never ending cycle. I feel if it were paired with the Empress at any point, it would be a significant rebirth/ new beginning.

I'm not mexican myself, but have lived in Mexico for a couple of years in my childhood and adolescence. I remember the celebration of the Day of the Dead and the figure of Santa Muerte have always fascinated me the most (even though I'm aware they are only just a small part of mexican culture). Because of this, the deck feels very nostalgic to me, bringing memories of my time living in Mexico. Thanks for showing it and sharing your opinions 😊 I cannot wait for my copy to arrive.

I just thought of something about the judgement card... so it mimics the funeral... they are all dressed like a funeral, but they are on the other side so the dead in the coffin is coming "alive" into the land of the dead... so I'm imagining that on tbe plane of the dead, they mirror the living with a funeral (perhaps they are in tbe same place but just a different detention and as the living are saying goodbye to their dead, the dead are welcoming and recieving that person into the new realm.

I love how the tens are sort of acey like they’re definitely of completion yet there is that sense of beginning again - it’s brilliant. I found this deck at a metaphysical fair today and I had a similar reaction you did to some of the cards that aren’t recognizably smith-waite. I was curious what others thought and super grateful for your perspective!!

I just got this deck today, and all I can say it’s a work of art. I like how the color of each suit corresponds to each one. The only things that I thought could’ve been better is that "The Lovers" card could’ve had the Santa Muerte instead of that winged creature of whatever it is (with her red or pink cloak...or both), and that "The Justice" card could’ve had the Santa Muerte wearing a green colored robe instead of black...those are the only two things I thought could’ve been better, but other than that this deck is a work of art.

I just recieved my Santa Muerte tarot and oracle decks and they are beautiful! I am having a difficult time with reading the little booklet and I'm unable to find the meaning of the sun and moon card. Maybe I just need to go over the booklet again. Yeah, I heard this deck was oversold in terms of the special edition version of it. I thought it was only going to be a special edition. I am so happy there's a mass market version as well. I love your reviews...I was taught by my grandmother how to read "La baraja Española"/Spanish cards (40 card ct.), which equal the Minor Arcana. Similar to The Lenormand deck. You can also use the "Baraja Gitana"/Gypsy cards, which include cards 8, 9 and 10 (52 card ct.). I later learned with the RWS tarot. I can see why the meanings are similar than your traditional RWS tarot. It's the first time in a long time that I'm interested in another Tarot deck. I've used the same deck (Gill Tarot) for 27-28 Yes. I've been reading for 30 yrs. I totally get it. I don't if it's cause I'm Mexican, but that Strength card was brilliant with the Luchador and Dragon. Once again, thank you for your review, you are always thorough... and so respectful to the deck creators and artists. Becauseof your review I bought one... and a back up. (Lord knows it cost me an arm and leg to replace my Gill Tarot).

Abundant Life Tarot I can so relate! So I did some quick research on her and she seems benevolent. She's about protection, healing and abundance and helping the dead cross over to the other side. I think we are safe. I always ask Master Jesus to preside over my readings and I think we can trust ourselves and trust the universe. I suppose if it was anything dark we would feel it right away even with the art and I don't feel any negativity or darkness at all. So I think we can trust our desires too! Plus as my friend said death isn't literal like in the Death card. I'm so close to buying it too and I feel the decks I have a very hard time purchasing end up being the ones that I connect with most. So it could just be fears about illuminating the subconscious.

The strength card I'm pretty sure is a Luchadore (? maybe wrong spelling?) you can see the ropes to the ring behind him! it's ike step into the ring and face your monsters! And the people in the judgment card are all the different elements looking over the coffin. Blue, yellow, red, and green! and i love in the 7? of wands the trees have an image of the skull in the branches! there is soo much to see! loving this!

I love love love love love this deck! Everything is exquisite. I don't regret my purchase even if I had to go through a cancelation. I had a visceral reaction when I opened this deck. With the body parts on the butterflies they definitely match the chakra associations I place with the minors. Wands= sacral therefore the pelvis. Swords=Throat/Crown so Skulls. Cup=Heart therfore the Ribs that protect the heart. Pentacles=Earth/Root so the feet.

I had the exact same thoughts about the booklet when I first got it. I had hoped it would discuss the iconography of each card. Sometimes half the fun is learning that on your own but at the same time it would have been really helpful. The artwork is beautiful but theres a few cards that really stump me and I then i have no real reference to look them up. But over all i love it!

I have reached out to Santa Muerte but so far, she has not worked with me. I think I know where I went wrong and will be reaching out to her again. Anyway, I have this deck and absolutely LOVE it!! Now LOL I'm team knock off. Yes, I buy a lot of Knock Off decks and to be honest, they are actually good quality. The cards are very very similar in texture and feel to the original deck! Like if the Original is velvety feeling, the knock off deck is too. Or is the original is slick and glossy, the knock off is too. Used to, the backs of the Knock off cards would look similar to the original. Now they look identical! Sure, the cards are thinner, but to me, still good quality. Yes, the cards are smaller, sometimes a lot smaller. I have little hands and short fingers so that is perfect for me. I struggle to shuffle the bigger cards. The images on the cards are a little different. Meaning, yes, they are identical, but they will be duller looking. Not as bright as on the original if that makes sense. So, if you haven't guessed by now, I have this deck as a Knock Off Deck. I absolutely LOVE it!! lol I LOVE how the cards shuffle, how they feel, even how it reads. Whether you are an I have to have the Original or Team Knock Off, get this deck! You won't regret it. And I've been noticing lately, KZbin not only points out when you misspell a word, they point out your grammar? What? Yes, I know the correct format and grammar and all that. But I am writing a comment not an essay paper or cover letter.

Gorgeous deck, thanks! I do think is it crucial to try and put oneself into that culture to truly perceive the meanings of the cards rather than forcing a European/American RWS overlay on them. Yes, it’s clear the base is RWS but … these are a people who have been through constant change and repeated subjugation so I would let their actual history speak strongly through those images.

Love the review! Not sure if you saw The Book of Life cartoon movie that came out a few years ago, but that movie was my first introduction to 'the Lady' and she is a beautiful soul. The BOL is now my favorite Samhain movie and the other two are Moana and the Guardian Brothers because all three speak about spirit and ancestral honouring. Of course still love my Halloween Town series, Twitches, Practical Magic, Hocus Pocus, Bell Book and Candle, the Craft etc etc lol. Okay, back to the video~I did warn you in the other comment this would be long? It's a page and 1/2 in word!! lol... Keep in mind these are comments from someone who does not use tarot for readings, just ritual and journeying :) On the Magician there is a sword, almost gold or of light sticking into the candles from the left of the card? The High Priestess, The Wheel of Fortune, The Star, and most definitely The Moon... love these cards! As you may have figured out lotus/liles are a key part of my journey apothecary and as I have no land to put a pond in I do get sad because I want so much to grow. When I saw the Star card I had a vision that hopefully will work! There are tall narrow vases... I could put some soil and the bulb in the bottom and as it grows keep adding water to it... not sure if it will work but will try this Spring! It was the partial submersion that made me think of the glass container and watching the lotus grow! The green skull connecting the Empress and Emperor is very cool... agree, different gun would work, but your explanation is valid and important to note. We have to have the warrior uniform for this culture. Granted a sword would also work! Also with the Devil card and the cutting of the cords in the later card, very cool! I have never seen such a continuous story in any of my tarot! The Chariot, it almost looks like the women surrounding him are the 'horse' energy if you will? I do see the description in the cards, but would be too long to share here :). In the Strength card it's the Feathered Serpent of the Aztec mythology. On the either Solstice or Equinox, I know the movement of the sun over the stairs of the pyramids look like the feathered serpent is moving. I love the description in the book for this a lot! Never viewed it that way and it feels right. The Tower card.... I don't know why but I had a thought when you were showing/taking about it... whenever I have gotten the Tarot I see it as something breaking down/destruction and for me it's about shifting through the rubble for what can be salvaged and rebuild... but now a new thought came to mind... shadow work/ soul retrieval... sometimes there is something within us that we need to access but we are holding ourselves back, even walls around our hearts, memories, etc... I got a feeling of those barriers being broken down and access to the treasures within the tower being exposed! Thoughts? ... Warned you in the other comment, this was going to be long lol.... Sorry! The Judgement, as soon as I saw it I saw the elements in the four standing over the rebirth in the coffin, totally see it connecting back to the description he gave! Wands: Love the narrative here a lot! The decks I have they seem so combative but as you said, this is more creative, productive... manifestation! 3 - the bird holding what looks like an invitation or letter keeps calling out. 7 the top reminds me of the workings of the brain or lungs! I blame science classes lol. 5, 8 and 10 definite favorites. Swords: 2 love the joining of the swords in such a cool way! “Blades meant to work together, rather than swords in conflict” love it!! I also love the 3, pulling out and moving forward!!! Damn, lots of goodness here! 2, 6 and 10 faves! Cups: 2 is probably one of the most beautiful 2 of cups I’ve seen! LOVE 5 of cups, I have to figure out a way to make that labyrinth skull! The of cups... OMGoddess... I would frame that image and use it on my altar! Agree with the 10s! Pentacles: All of the twos have such a sharing and unity for success. I really love that theme in all the suites. Totally want the skull clock lol. Heehee, skull abacus.. did I ever mention I do accounting? Want this lol! 8 of pentacles, same as cups, totally would print for my altar! Have you notice with the 10s the bottom wings are: Swords - Head/Skull Cups - Rib cage Wands - Pelvic Bone Pentacle - Skeleton Feet You mentioned how the 10s are about completion, they actually form a body, in a way ;)

Your videos are amazing!! I can’t thank you enough for how you help us readers who are serious deck collectors. My journey is young (since last April) and I have around 30 decks so far-which I seriously feel could lead to 300-I just can’t stop. And the thing is I have severe ADHD, among other things going on which make it impossible to me for read every detailed book and card description that comes with most decks/kits. Even though I love to read intuitively for the most part, I feel knowing the intended meanings in each deck is very helpful & important. Hearing you explain the cards and their descriptions from the books with such attention to detail and insight really makes it like a story you want to hear all of...and has really helped me decide on purchasing some wonderful decks. Hi Kelly, the only diff between the 2 decks is the LE has the coffin box and is numbered. Everything else is exactly the same. xoxox i have both of them, and thought the LE would have a different cardstock than the standard-- but nope--exactly the same. I have a suggestion, that may change your perspective regarding The Emperor card being depicted as a "bandito". I noticed he has a prosthetic leg, which reminded me of Santa Anna.

I received my LE deck after my pre-order from the beginning of the year was cancelled. I've jumped through hoops, cancellations and multiple emails worldwide to find a seller. I'm still waiting to actually use this deck as it arrived with a card missing. From what I have seen of the cards I do have, its a beautiful deck, it's just that my patience is now wearing very thin as I'm still waiting for the missing card to be sent out to me from Lo Scarabeo. It was lovely to watch your walk through and hear your excitement of the images. It certainly makes my wait a little more palatable for the time being.

It's definitely an interesting conversation to have and I'm glad you could see all the images and find that this wasn't a deck for you :) That's a win in my opinion! I don't see a huge difference between an instrument of war and death a gun represents and a sword or a bow in its time, the hanged man's noose, the traditional death with his scythe sowing body parts, people falling to their death from towers, the 10 of Swords in most decks, battlefields and etc, these images are fairly traditional to tarot and ones we work with regularly. Armor and shields and swords are not stage props in the world of the emperor, but speak to an aspect of rulership very often, and to some it is the shadow side of power.

Suggestion, review your own videos. Watch how frequently you focus on negative issues. It's ok to mention, but you spend a lot of time in videos of decks you do not like or have an issue regarding the deck on negative issues, especially when you have a pet peeve. I like your in-depth reviews, but would prefer you do not keep repeating an issue you have. Once is enough. Also, I like to see the card, and not all your hand motions over the card :) unless pointing to a small part in the card, keep your hands out of the camera view; it is very distracting and annoying. I too, love tarot books to describe what is in the card; you mention this again and again. I GET IT! ONCE IS ENOUGH! You don't need to mention this for every card you have a question about. argh it is grating. Yes, I have the option of not watching, but that is like throwing the baby out with the water. I am suggesting that you have clean water LOL, so no need to throw out even the bathwater. Do you watch your own videos? We can all improve, but not when we have no idea of what to change. Watch some with the sound off, it provides another view, and you will really notice your hands. Watch and listen, and ask yourself if it is necessary for your hands to be on camera. Listen not only to this video, but whenever you do not like something about a deck, and count how many times you harp on the issue. I LOVE that you give an unbiased review, mentioning any issues we may discover, but again once is enough.

I like seeing Kelly's graceful and descriptive hands in the frame. These are videos after all, and having hands animates what would be a very boring still picture!.. I also don't mind Kelly's repetition. Not everyone watches all her videos remember xx

"grating"? "annoying"? Caps? Overuse of exclamation marks? Do you read your own replies? Just in case you don't realize it, you are coming off as rude. Kelly is posting informative videos for free and without ads, which I thoroughly enjoy--as is, baby, bathwater and all. She is a kind and polite person and probably wouldn't be offended by suggestions kindly and politely (and may I add privately) given, but that is not the case here. Just FYI. : )

How do I contact her privately? Many mention they never read messages sent via youtube. I can delete this comment and write to her. This has nothing to do with who she is as a person, only her videos :) I did mention that I love her videos, but with these exceptions. Have you seen her review of The Good Tarot (one of the more recent decks she did not like much), not my favorite deck and will not buy, but she approaches it looking for all the negatives. Yes, those are the feelings I had watching her reviews, which are the most in-depth, but sometimes repeats in the same video over and over and over.... usually the negative points as if she has a case to prove. I really want to watch her videos, but often have to stop due to some of these things.I like to see the cards without hands all over the screen, my preference. No one is perfect. Making videos is not easy and takes practice. At least her videos have good lighting and focus, which many other youtubers do not. Sorry you feel you need to defend her. I am well aware of her good qualities. I have watched most of her videos, which perhaps is the reason some of these things are starting to bother me so that I have to stop watching when I really want to watch her videos completely.
