My grandfather played a mall Santa for over a decade. He had the perfect Santa-look: big white beard, big red nose and cheeks, and a big gut. It also helped that he was an actor/extra in many big budget films. He ended up doing a ton of stock Santa photos that I still see pop up in various media to this day.

As an Austrian the Krampus tradition is still strong. I remember being a kid in Vienna and my granddad dressed up as Nikolaus at the 6th of December. But before he came in an gave us presents we heard the rattling of chains at our door, making us believe that the Krampus was standing right in front of our flat because we were naughty. I went to the same Mall that you're talking about at 9:55 ; you mentioned it, and then I remembered you were from the KC area, and a flood of memories of those memorizing air balloons came back to me. I found this to be very interesting, just to see the origins of we're he came from. Although my family and I don't really celebrate Christmas, instead we celebrate the Winter Solstice, and instead of Santa, we have the Solstice Wizard, which is basically a replacement for Santa that my dad thought up, and is heavily based of Thomas Nast's visual of Santa. But still neat to learn a little more of old Saint Nicholas, as well as Krampus.

Papa Meat should have read the book: When Santa Was A Shaman.....it is a fascinating exploration of Santa lore which includes psychedlics and pop culture. For example: do you know why Santa wears a red and white suit? He never wore red and white before the 1920s. Coca cola did a big xmas ad that year so they gave santa the coca cola treatment!

Another example from the book: Why flying reindeer? Well, in Siberia reindeer commonly seek out the fly agaric mushroom, the red mushroom with white spots from Super Mario Bros, once they ate the psychedelic fungi they would run and jump and play in the snow for hours. The reindeer craved the mushrooms so much that they would drink the urine of shamans from the ground. Muscimol is the drug that's in fly argaric and it passes through the body without breaking down much which means the urine would get someone high!

There is actually such a massive amouunt of nordic and Scandinavian folklore more associated than even you went into, the elves stem from the yule lads, the sleigh and raindeer come from the nordic winter hunt . The while white beard with gifts also has a lot to do a lot with Odin in said hunt

When hunter started talking about Sinterklaas, I was anxiously waiting for him to mention Zwarte Piet (or Black Pete), who only VERY RECENTLY has been removed from the Sinterklaas celebration. 15:58 shows Black Pete, I'll let you guess which one he is.

P.S. He still hasn't entirely been removed from the celebration, some people are still very adamant about how Black Pete's looks. The idea is that they're black from soot due to crawling through chimneys, which doesn't explain their cherry red lips, big golden earrings, and frizzy hair, but ok. Truth was that it would work as an easy disguise so kids wouldn't recognize the kid from a block away, who would pose as Black Pete. These days most people agree that it is no longer appropriate and the Dutch have collectively decided that he will be replaced with "Roetveegpiet", who simply have smudges of soot on their faces, instead of the 'traditional' all-out blackface.
