I respect my favorite senator Miriam. I have always prefered her over other senators. She is the top of my favorite list. However, I have different conclusions from her own. The debate regarding Science and Faith is littered with so much controversy and confusion that one who reads history should always bear some axioms in mind. One of these is the danger of historical anachronism. We should always know that science we have now is at least a very developed system of established principles and

new and sound scientific ideas. Now, the Church could change its positions on certain things because these are non-dogmas, which was the case in the controversy of Copernicus and Galileo, of which my favorite Senator is right. One other point, even the great St. Augustine who lived more than a millennium before these controversies happened had to acknowledge that interpretation of Genesis is difficult and required more knowledge even in the secular field as a help at least to shed a light. That

You're great, Sen. Santiago. You did the same thing Dr. Rizal did against erring friars. Noli & El Fili signifies head-on collision with catholics and in the long run triumphant. What makes these leeches really afraid of is should there be regulation on birth, then delihensya will suffer most: No more binyag fee, kumpil fee, etc. and the worse thing is: Membership will drastically decline. Note that they only depend on newly born converts and almost none adult converts.

the Church did not just meddle in the controversy out of nothing; for one, it was concerned of truth, though there was always the fact that the means used of silencing might have been so shocking to our minds of today, but these were mostly common during those times. Also, the Church had never made into a dogma geocentrism, though it was too concerned about the uniqueness of the Earth among the created orders that it risked on being viewed as sclerotic and irreformable despite the development of

empirical facts. During the time of Copernicus, it was yet developing, and the prevailing school of thought was the Ptolemaic astronomy. During the Middle Ages, the social reality is more or less always divided between the Church and the King, which were oftentimes in conflict with each other, and these were always in the mind of the Europeans in those days as given. They could not yet think of a constitutionally elected leader because it has yet to develop.

coelestium was indeed a revolutionary idea, since it ran counter to the prevailing and endemic ideas during the Middle Ages. Let us remember that Rene Descartes' skepticism and doubt had yet to take root. The question is, what was the position of the Church against the idea of Copernicus and let us include Galileo as well? We may be surprised to know that the Church's requirement was a rigorous standard of proof that most of our scientists would commonly require of any new theories in scientific

To a European living during the Middle Ages, there were only two institutions in the social sphere: The Church and the King. The Church has always had its absolute claims: the principle of biblical inerrancy, or else the Bible would run the risk of devoiding itself of supernatural value. The problem is in terms of interpretation. Generally, classical biblical interpretation has four: literal, moral, analogical, and typological. Where is the problem, then? Copernicus' De revolutionibus orbium

Now, in physics it is common that aside from mathematical postulates, it needs to have a corresponding proof in the universe, if not that can be experimentally justified and replicated. Though, we know that entrenched in those days was Ptolemaic astronomy (which have been found to have several errors by several scholars in the modern period), we have to think that

let me correct the common mistakes made by people like you,the meaning of slavery in the bible is voluntary servitude to pay debts,it is compared to a princess-like position to pay off debts, slavery is not a good term for that, servitude is not a matter of ownership it is a matter if contract,it is when somebody HIRES himself out,it is not the same slavery like in this days.that's what happen when you misinterpret the bible due to lack of education .

pinoymbbkid56 What she was saying is that the Catholic Church is not a perfect institution. If you don’t get what that means, it’s all about the history of the Roman Catholic Church, and the controversies that have been surrounding the Church through the years. You are a proud Catholic then you should know the history of your Church.

I got your point, but the reliability of any contraceptive method depends on whether it's used consistently and correctly. CBCP insists women to practice NFP, which have a failure rate of approximately 25% given that the couple practice it in average use, instead of AFP. Therefore, both methods can fail and lead to abortion decisions. Additionally, NFP is known to fail miserably- the Philippines' population is an excellent example of it.

the idea that the earth is stationary and the sun revolves around it came from astronomer ptolemy and NOT from christians, though christians supported it because they view ptolemy as a reputable astronomer, 2nd,the idea that the earth was flat didnt come from christians, medieval christians during those days knew perfectly well that the earth is round, they dont even need science to point that out because it is very obvious3rd, Galileo was never tortured,in fact the church treated him very well
