I have immense respect for your study techniques.I always love when people come with unorthodox way of studying and manage to best all the others going by rule book.I Never liked taking notes,never liked highlighting,never made flash cards,never read those humongous texts(except Robbins),but I always doubted myself if I was on wrong path. You are saviour,a lot to learn from you

@renee6989

@@dominicandrewz I just reviewed wrong or the ones I guessed right but rly didn’t understand the concept. When you first start it takes forever Bc you’re relearning or learning concepts. When you get through the entire bank it takes less time to review Bc maybe you mixed one thing up to get the question wrong rather than straight up not knowing the concept. Plus you start missing less so it’s less time to review.

came across this video going into my dedicated. Realized I’ve been doing what you’re saying this whole time. I’ve used just UWorld on 3rd year rotations with zero cheesy, BNB, etc. I make my own Anki cards for the stuff I get wrong. Before my shelfs I would randomize my marks and incorrect, and keep “marking” any questions that I want. Have pulled honors or high pass on everything this year (missed honors on surgery and IM by 1 point each time, and both times it was because I got only 85% of UW done for those). As soon as I ramped up # of questions I murdered the rest of my shelf exams

You have discovered the genie in the bottle. With question banks, you get multiple viewpoints because there are several if not many authors and therefore you get the perspective that matters to each of those authors. That's one hell of a lot of perspectives. I can't imagine any important bit of information being left out. Your method is the holy grail. Only a fool would not take your advice to heart and actually apply it.

So rather than learn via books/videos -> then do questions , you *Instead do question sets first to identify a more targeted scope of what your knowledge gaps are -> and then you would refer to additional review items like FA or videos OR in this youtubers case, he chose to do questions and then mark those specific questions in order to later on do an additional review of the specific question answers/explanations. This makes sense and definitely is awesome seeing your results! Congrats! It would be helpful to get a better understanding of this updated dogma, if you were able to make a video of what this (‘all at once’- simultaneous learning, reviewing, & applying) review looks like in real time. Would be awesome if you took us through like 5 Q demo, how you reviewed the Qs you got right/wrong, reasoning behind which questions you marked, or how often you revisited the marked ones, unless just that one extra time. So is the majority of the extra time really spent reviewing all of the other answer choices per question, in addition to the correct answer, as opposed to taking notes and watching videos? How many questions did you do per day since the Qbanks were your primary resource? Were you doing them on untimed tutor mode vs going through a timed set of 40 and then reviewing them all? Thank you for sharing your method and insight! Super helpful! 🤓✨

my only inquiry is when do you actually solve these qbanks like timewise,; do you do it after youve taken all the lectures for a specific subject or midway or from the begining? for example in med school you have to wait till the 4th week till they present all the lectures and what's required for the exam. So how can you actually solve the questions before studying the material? thanks in advance
@SantiagoAQ
@SantiagoAQ 3 жыл бұрын
For step 1 I first watched the BNB videos (thus I first reviewed the material) and then I did questions. But with Step 2 I realized that you don't necessarily need to know a topic to start doing questions. Sure, at first you'll get the question wrong (obviously), but you'll learn from it. And in my experience, that learning experience is much more meaningful: it's embedded in a context, you know first hand how is presented, you recognize what's important, etc... And you can always mark the question to review later (And thus make sure you retained the information)... Now that's not to say that everybody should start doing just questions and that's it, I reckon this strategy might make a lot of people feel "unsafe" (for lack of a better word). But it goes to show that including application resources early on in your prep can go a long way. What I suggest to most is to start doing questions system-wise as you're learning the material (instead of JUST learning first and THEN applying) and then just play around to see which ratio of input/application works best for you. Hope I answered your question

I'm a first year student preparing for usmle. Can you make a video rating different q banks ? Cause I can't really afford all of them ... also love your approach!!

Theres a flaw with this method that ive come across is that if you do qbanks itself there are alot of errors within the qbanks itself and you wouldnt realise it until youve watched a lecture where you ask the professor and points out the flaw in the mcq or the options.

Also doing individual mcqs takes much longer time but i noticed that watching a prerecorded video and then solving mcqs not only helped me solve alot of mcqs in a single go but also catch those mcqs that may have errors or multiple correct answers.
