Following your journey from Spain, using these advices on my path to usmle exams!. Btw it's so cool to see the differences between each system, in Spain we take the Medical Intern Resident exam "MIR" after we graduate (24-ish yr old average) in order to get a mark and choose a desirable speciality, on the hand seems like in USA you take steps during med school woah.. As an IMG feels like we have to cram after graduation if you didnt know about the steps. May I ask, how much time on average people spend on step 1 and 2, although everybody have its own progress? Keep it up with the vids!!!

Thank you so much!! It was a special moment for us and an equally hard season for my wife lol. But I’m so glad my videos have helped you! Always feel free to send me any questions that come up as you progress through med school!

I really recommend using the UWorld add-on. It takes the question IDs from the block of questions you just did and finds the corresponding Anki cards. That’s how I unlocked cards

Congrats! Did your practice scores reflect this increase over the 3 weeks? Did you see the nbme scores go up as well?

Thank you so much! I did see steady improvements over the 3 weeks, but my actual test score was higher than any of my practice tests 🙏🏽

Thanks! Honestly both do a pretty good job at resembling the real deal. NBME is probably more similar though in my opinion.

How did you balance uWorld shelf Qs with uWorld Step 2 Qs?

I did UWorld shelf during my rotations, and UWord step 2 during dedicated

Congrats doc. Any tips how to increase my daily question output? I max out at 80 qs per day (to do and correct). 160 is alot.😢

Thanks so much! The only real way is practice. I’d recommend adding 10-20 questions per day and working your way up. It’s like running, the only way to be able to run longer is to train your body by slowly running longer and longer distances until your conditioning improves.

@@EvolvingMedic gotcha, so that 70% (sorry if numbers are off, watched your video yesterday), is that reflective of the first pass from shelf study?

Exactly. There was still some that I didn’t get to and had to finish during dedicated, but most was from clerkships

@@EvolvingMedic sweet! My school is getting us a yearlong sub (which I will extend), waiting for that to drop. Any sage advice for an M2 about to enter rotations? Or videos of your’s I should watch? Just found your channel and have mentors at my school, but I love getting insight from various people who have found success.

Hey JR! How do you find time to exercise with such busy days, and what does your routine with that look like? I’m trying to optimize my schedule before applying for med schools but it’s a work in progress lol
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not easy to manage and during busy seasons of life, exercise is often dropped from my priority list lol. But I’ve been pretty diligent to determine my “must dos” vs. my “can dos” from my to-do list. And then I use the principles from the book “Eat That Frog” (basically do the worst “must dos” as soon as possible every day - aka studying), and this leaves a lot more time for can dos, or just things I want to do, in the evenings! I hope this makes sense! I may make a video on how I (try to) balance everything!

Hopefully this video helped answer this, but in short, using active recall and spaced repetition (eg, Anki) for a long period of time to create a base of knowledge, and then doing as many practice questions as possible in the weeks leading up to the exam.
