Just say "I haven't passed yet." Don't take it as a failure but see it as a learning opportunity. There is a lot of power in "Yet", you are telling yourself that you will get there and that your eyes and heart are still fixed on your goal.

Following your journey from Spain, using these advices on my path to usmle exams!. Btw it's so cool to see the differences between each system, in Spain we take the Medical Intern Resident exam "MIR" after we graduate (24-ish yr old average) in order to get a mark and choose a desirable speciality, on the hand seems like in USA you take steps during med school woah.. As an IMG feels like we have to cram after graduation if you didnt know about the steps. May I ask, how much time on average people spend on step 1 and 2, although everybody have its own progress? Keep it up with the vids!!!

Hey JR! How do you find time to exercise with such busy days, and what does your routine with that look like? I’m trying to optimize my schedule before applying for med schools but it’s a work in progress lol
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic Жыл бұрын
It’s definitely not easy to manage and during busy seasons of life, exercise is often dropped from my priority list lol. But I’ve been pretty diligent to determine my “must dos” vs. my “can dos” from my to-do list. And then I use the principles from the book “Eat That Frog” (basically do the worst “must dos” as soon as possible every day - aka studying), and this leaves a lot more time for can dos, or just things I want to do, in the evenings! I hope this makes sense! I may make a video on how I (try to) balance everything!

Thanks! Honestly both do a pretty good job at resembling the real deal. NBME is probably more similar though in my opinion.

Hi! I'm trying to figure out how to build the filtered deck every day with my incorrects. What are the settings I would use if I wanted to add cards to the filtered deck every day from my incorrects but keep the other cards in the deck in the same due date/steps?

@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 2 ай бұрын
Hopefully this video helped answer this, but in short, using active recall and spaced repetition (eg, Anki) for a long period of time to create a base of knowledge, and then doing as many practice questions as possible in the weeks leading up to the exam.

@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 5 ай бұрын
Her reaction was so sweet! And it depends on the school and the med student. Most students take anywhere between 3 and 8 weeks for step 2. A little less time for step 1 since it’s pass/fail

Wow beast! I am about to start dedicated but dont think I have as solid as a foundation that you had (started Anki during clerkships just for UW shelf exams and wasn't able to keep up with old material as much as I wanted). Any advice? Thanks for the inspiration!
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I would take a baseline exam to see where you’re at and identify subjects that you may be particularly weak in. Then you can incorporate reviewing material from that topic (i.e. B&B, AMBOSS, KZbin, Sketchy, etc.) into your study routine. And as you progress in your practice questions, your weakest subject will change, and then you spend a couple days tightening that topic up and continue in that way. Then you’ll hopefully have an even level of knowledge and can just focus on ripping off as many practice questions as you can

Hey man, how do you make med school workout financially with a family? I’m currently in paramedic school after being an emt for a few years and have realized that I want to go to med school. I would be starting from zero, but I’m confident I will do it. My wife currently stays home with our 14month son, and we want to homeschool.
@EvolvingMedic
@EvolvingMedic 11 ай бұрын
Hey! That’s awesome that you’re driven to pursue medical school and I’m sure you’ll do great! Especially with your experience as a paramedic. Trying to receive as much financial aid through scholarships is the first thing I would recommend, then supplementing that with loans to make your family comfortable. Of course you want to minimize the amount of loans you take out, but I would prioritize the comfort of your family and loans are used for that purpose
