John now the real fun starts,this is the best part of wooden boats in my opinion. You are making it look easy. Which we know it is not. Keep up the good work. Funny how I did not get a notice about this one ran into it by going through my feeds. Hmm YT is messing up again. Great video any how thanks .
@JohnsWoodenShips4 жыл бұрын
Yes my friend, now is the hard part. A lot of people believes that the hard part is the making of the hull. It is hard but the hardest part is the masts, yards and rigging. Until i finish the Santisima, have in mind that i make public a video every Wednesday and every Saturday :)

About the light brown twine, there is a way to make it look better when finished then twisting a few times around the main ropes. The trick is to make some tubes with it using finished naiks as gauges, glue and slip out. You have a finished product that you just slip on the ropes. Change the size by using different size of nail. Looks very clean.
@JohnsWoodenShips4 жыл бұрын
Do you have some pictures or a video to watch the procedure?
@pierrelefebvre62804 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsWoodenShips Sorry I don't. Lost my pictures. But its straight forward: A greased (vaseline) nail (different size for different size results) supported in something stable, twine twisted around slightly tight, glue to wet it all around, let seize, pull out before it sticks to nail, let dry. You have a tube. Tube must be twice size of rope so rope and end of rope fit inside. Harden end of rope with glue to make like needle (longer than tube). Insert rope in tube before fixing anything on rope, Use rope as usual sliding tube aproximately where wanted. After tying rope around piece, insert loose end inside tube with lead rope, pull tight, glue, voilà ! Can cut tube any lenght wanted for effect. I use it everywhere there is a lead rope tied to anything. Try it, you'll like it. Its gorgious. Cleans every rigging up. Not many use it. Would go well with your ship building :) Only one shipbuilder used it and he died, my senseï. His site is now closed. Now his teaching will live on.

awesome instructional video as usual John. Just wondering, the CA glue you use , does it come with that long applicator or do you buy them separate. I've been looking for that glue but cant find it. Thanks

I know you're building the Montanes right now and have the Beagle ready to build after that. Do you get impatient and want to hurry and finish the one you're working on to get on to the other one as quick as possible? I wonder how possible it would be to work on two at the same time. For instance while waiting for the white glue to dry you could work on the other. But I suppose you have a job too so that would take too much time.
@JohnsWoodenShips4 жыл бұрын
No i am not impatient, this kind of model work needs a lot of patience. If you are impatient then you will make mistakes that you won't be able to fix. And you should not work 2 models at the same time, you will mix everything up and like you said i have a day job so the time is limited.

I noticed that the standing rigging lines are a bit furry, I use one of two methods to fix this, one run the lines though some beeswax, the other is to pass the line quickly over a flame.
@JohnsWoodenShips4 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right, i do not like the wax because it leaves residues and the flame is risky. You can see all the "furry" because i take close ups and the light is all around the picture frame.

The black bug is at the left and far away from the model, it doesn't block anything or meshes up with the focus.
