Hey John. I'm just curious, but recently I've been trying to make my own model for a ghost ship-ish Galleon, and I absolutely need the sails. Where did you get those?

I'm enjoying all your videos, but, te stern sail of the ship (the crab sail), i think it isn't at the correct possition, because the strips of the sail (the draw of the sail) it is need to be vertically not horizontal (i think)

Thank you very much!!! Yes you are correct, i have explained why in the comments of the previous video. It was badly made and the only way i could make it fit is that way.

Hi again John. Been watching how you did the sails with great interest. In fact all your videos are enormously helpful so thanks. I have a query and would value your opinion. I'm at the point of attaching the sails now on the Beagle (Occre) (which is a much smaller model than the Santisima Trinidad) and I'm finding it really difficult to tie of the ropes to the various places and pins on the deck, as there is so little room to get at them. I followed the order of rigging as per instructions, but I'm now beginning to think I should have done the sails before I did the ratlines. Obviously, for this build I will have to struggle, but for my next build I think I will attach the sails first. As you are much more experienced than me, do you think that would present any problems if I did it that way?
@JohnsWoodenShips
@JohnsWoodenShips 4 жыл бұрын
Good question! You can place the sails on the yards but do not do anything else. If you try to pass the ropes for the sails before passing and attaching the ropes for the yards then you are in trouble. The yards use 1-2 ropes for lifting up to the mast, 2 ropes for the vertical axle and 2 for the horizontal. If you attach the ropes to the sails then you have to be extremely lucky to center the yards. Probably you will have to untie the ropes from the sails and do them again :)
@DorasVideoLog
@DorasVideoLog 4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnsWoodenShips Oh Right I think I understand what you mean. I was just thinking that I could tie all the lines on the mast AND yards except for the ladder things (which I think are called the ratlines), then do the sails, then the ratlines last, if you get my meaning. Sorry if I'm using the wrong terminology - I'm new to all this :) but learning. This is such a fascinating hobby. Thanks for your help - much appreciated.
