I'm using Creality CR6 SE and slicing with Cura. I have to say so far you provided me the best solution for stringing. Thanks! My current setting is retraction 4mm and 40mm/s. occassionally has one or two strings.

What are your nozzle and bed temperatures for printing PLA? I have the same model im trying to fine tune.

@@a.s.6505 can’t remember now. I moved to idea maker, which gives a little better results in terms of stringing. For eSUN PLA+ niozzle 200, bed 60. I always use 60 for bed for PLA.

OMG I though extacky what you said. Retraction distance being how much filament you sucked in! So I increased the number. Thanks for the info
@vd8534 жыл бұрын
Just a bit of warning, if your retracting distance is too high. It could cause heat creep. You can also reduce stringing by lowering the temperature.

You should try the "retract continue" post-processing plugin. This resolves all stringing and oozing for me (expert user ~10 years in 3d printing now). It works on an Ultimaker Original/2/2+/3/S3/S5, on other printers, and with ALL FILAMENTS as well. It basically keeps retracting the filament whilst making a travel move. Which in turn prevents hot plastic from leaving the nozzle. You could also increase the retraction distance, BUT... when you do this you make some not necessary E-moves that flatten your filament. Open Cura (4.4 or later) --> Extensions -->Post processing --> Retract continue I would be more than happy to see a part 2 where you test this:D

Thanks for vid and going to the trouble to try and help but seems to me the settings are useless without knowing what printer, feed system and material you are using. Direct vs bowden are quite different for example.

Hidden settings still affect your print if the settings are enabled by default.

How did you get to the menu indicated at 0:50? My print setting has much less options. Retraction is not on my list

If you go to the drop down button on your columns, there’s a tuning icon that appears. Click on it and you’ll get a list. I clicked on check all and got the complete list for all the settings

I set the retraction values per filament. Then you can just change the filament per the dropdown at the top and it will adjust your retraction settings. Also travel speed comes into play so I found if that was too low I got stringing. I use a travel speed of 150 mm/sec. I think anytime you are using a different filament certain tests like this one need to be done so you can dial in your settings.

I only use one brand because of price and quality but every filament is different.

Can retraction settings effect the quality of your supports? I’ve been having an issue where my supports aren’t properly printing. They look like they’re under extruding. I’ve turned up nozzle temperatures and that didn’t work. Tried slowing the print, that didn’t work. So I’m thinking it has to do with my retraction settings. What do you think, does that sound like it could be the issue

Your explanation is ambiguous. You say the lower the numbers, but it's not clear which of the two numbers to lower. Both at the same time? One at a time, if so which one? I guess basically it is trial and error. It would have been really nice to, and more useful, see what the numbers were for each of the prints going from left to right so as to get a feel as to what changes have what effect.

I found it depends also on the resolution once you have tuned and have zero strings at one resolution, you change it a little and all goes to hell 😅

@@SANTUBE I guess I was printing to hot, I turned the temp down to 185 and now I’m messing with retraction 🤦♂️. I’m about a week old to 3D printing. Just stringy now. I printed a display cover and I had time to mess with the temp, nozzle, speed and all the settings. Couldn’t get the tinnieststings to stop, so. I’m learning retraction setting 😢. I printed a hot plate cable stabilizer bracket and it put a support where it’s supposed to mount 🤦♂️. So, I’m trying to figure out what to do about that one. Haaa, so much information. 😜
