Neither is her interpretation real. She and the host outright hate Karna and are hardcore praising arjun Draupadi. Karna in Mahabharat is shown as a positive character only. Nothing is going to change it.

Also this so called author cherry picked verses and is acting as if Karna is negative character and saying 'I am not anti Karna, Vyasa Mahabharat is'. This one verse from Vyasa Mahabharat destroys her argument: """Thus fell that hero who was a Kalpa tree unto those swarms of birds represented by suitors. Solicited by suitors he always said, "I give" but never the words "I have not!" The righteous always regarded him as a righteous person."" -Karna Parva, Section-94, Vyasa Mahabharat. Also her claim that Karna wasn't low caste or casteism didn't exist just to belittle his humiliations are also false. Karna was insulted for his caste in many places, once he even tells Bhishma not to insult him as 'low born' since he has always followed practises or Kshatriyas alone. All in all, it's just another dumb writer with her own interpretation. Not just this, there are also places where Pandavas actions were extremely questionable like Arjun burning Khandiva forest. In actual epic it was basically a genocide of all the innocent naga people and animals in the forest but somehow we aren't supposed to question it. Any person with two brain cells would be shocked at the description of the genocide mentioned in the text but we are still supposed to accept unquestionably like abrahamic faith. She also spoke as if Karna abandoned Duryodhan with gandharvas while in reality Karna destroyed half the Gandharva army and was overcome with illusion, all his weapons and chariot was destroyed, etc. That's when he retreated and the so called gandharvas were themselves sent by Arjuna's father Indra to humiliate Kauravas and protect Pandavas. Arjun also did the same thing when Dwarka robbers attacked but she wouldn't mention that. I would only suggest, read actual epic. You will find such KZbin channels or authors everywhere. This particular author even seems to totally take her knowledge from Quora. She also said Satyaki defeated Karna but it never happened. As per BORI CE, on 14th day Karna made Satyaki satyaki chariotless. Then the latter got on lord Krishna's celestial chariot and he inturn made Karna chariotless, then Satyaki defeated other kaurav warriors who came there. Karna then got on a new chariot and resumed his fight with Satyaki, how is this defeat? Karna made satyaki chariotless and Satyaki did the same for Karna. These are just some small refutations of her rants against Karna. Even Arjun was defeated by many. Victory and defeat is not constant in war. That's why Mahabharat is realistic but this author has made it into Bollywood masala flick where one hero is undefeated and rest are all villains or side characters.

There are some wrong information in this debate regarding meat eating. There is no meat eating in Mahabharata and Ramayan. Do read sanskrit to hindi translation there is a word in Sanskrit called Maasam, that means fruits inside part....there is no mention of meat or fish at all. All these English translation done by Max Muller and his companions. There are 46 letters in Sanskrit and 26 letters in English. How can someone translate Sanskrit in English. Great idea - there are Mahabharata books for kids which are fully illustrated and available. One of them is sold by Ramakrishna Matha (you can find them online under the title' Pictorial Mahabharata' ) and another is sold by Amar Chitra Katha. Of course, these editions will vary in terms of the style, story telling, visuals and content. So would love Ami ji to create her own version which is perhaps more authentic and keeping in line with the original version.

@@jojosoni Here they distinguish between nishaad (निषाद) and nishadha (निषध). Nishadha seems to have been a kingdom. Nishaad is a forest dweller/ Hunter tribe sort of. Ekalavya was a nishaad but nala was from Nishadha kingdom. They may however have correlation. See Kingdoms participating in the Mahabharata war nishaad on the Pandava side but nishadha on the Kaurava side.

Very well explained and clarified, how its shown in TV series its very different. In the "Suryaputra Karna" series, Arjuna's character is portrayed as less powerful in battle, while the show predominantly highlights Karna's greatness as a warrior.

The book written by Ami Ganotra is a very well reached book. It focuses on the nature of each character. Demystifies and explains true evil character of Karna who has been glorified beyond proportion in TV serials. This book presents Draupadi in correct light as a strong, dignified, wise, compassionate and intellectual person. Reading the book is a great experience.

Thanks! A lot of this was actually pointed by my grandmother who refused to watch Mahabharatha on TV (due to distortions in the show) after watching a few episodes. Our shows tend to especially glorify the antagonists like Karna or Ravana (in Ramayana). This obsession with the villain and sidelining of the hero seems like an insidious attempt to stamp out dharmic thinking.

Truth: Karn failed to string the bow along with Shalya. Draupadi and Lord Krishna did not even talk to Draupadi until after few months, when he visited Indraprastha as a guest. ''If Kshatriyas like Karna and Shalya, who are famous in the world, have great strength and are well versed in Dhanur Veda, could not string the bow, how can this weakling Brahmana, with no knowledge of weapons, succeed?''--Bori Mahabharat 3} Draupadi called Duryodhana andhe ka putra andha? Truth: Again Draupadi was not even present when Duryodhana feel in water and only Bheem laughed at him. Even Lord Krishna was not present there. 4}Who said Duryodhana to disrobe Draupadi? Truth: It was kARN... Even after Yuyutsu said that it is against ''dharm'' to disrobe a women. Karn was the first one to defend it calling her slut and whore. 5}Karn promised Mata Kunti to kill only Arjun and not other son of her during war. Truth: Yes, Karn did tell her to spare everybody excluding Arjuna but there are several instances where he DID try to kill Bheem and Yudhisthir. 6}Abhimanyu was killed by Karn only to relieve him from his distressed sate? Truth: Again an interpolation by serials to justify Karn's act..He was not relieving him from any distress he just killed him from behind as a coward when he was wihout any weapon so killing Karn without any weapon was equally justified. 7} Krshna told Arjuna that Karn was better than him? Truth: Krishna never told anything like that to Arjuna infact after the disrobing of Draupadi it was lOrd Krishna who told:'' If Duryodhana is the tree of evilness then Karn if the trunk and Shakuni, Dusshashan are the branches of same evilness''. And as far as Arjuna is concerned, even at the time of leaving his body Lord Krishna was only taking the name of Arjuna saying that he is more dear to him than his own wives, sons and kingsmen. 8} Karn was refused to teached by Guru Dronacharaya?\ Truth: No, he was actually taught by Dronacharya, only not Brahmastra because he was not capable of it and it is CLEARLY written in Mahabharat that Karn was jealous of Arjuna from the very starting Narada says, “From childhood, he formed a friendship with King Duryodhana. This is because of the enmity he always bore towards you and natural destiny. He saw that Dhananjaya was superior to everyone in learning about dhanurveda.” -1330(2) As per KMG, this is what Karna asked of Drona: “Beholding that Dhananjaya was superior to every one in the science of weapons, Karna. one day approached Drona in private and said these words unto him, 'I desire to be acquainted with the Brahma weapon, with all its mantras and the power of withdrawing it, for I desire to fight Arjuna. Without doubt, the affection thou bearest to every one of thy pupils is equal to what thou bearest to thy own son. I pray that all the masters of the science of weapons may, through thy grace, regard me as one accomplished in weapons!' Thus addressed by him, Drona, from partiality for Phalguna, as also from his knowledge of the wickedness of Karna, said, 'None but a Brahmana, who has duly observed all vows, should be acquainted with the Brahma weapon, or a Kshatriya that has practised austere penances, and no other.' Please go and read real scriptures. Today I go and watch youtube videos where are I see people abusing Draupadi and Arjuna, I really feel pity to those people. Draupadi was one of the most chaste lady and biggest devottee of Lord Krishna after Yudhisthir and Arjuna. And Lord Krishna literally said and I quote-'' Those who cannot love arjun can never be loved by me and those who dislikes me can never be loved by Arjun'' Even Ved Vyaas wrote that before reading Mahabharat it is mandatory to worship Devi Saraswati, Lord Krishna and Arjuna. He also wrote that before learning archery one must worship Arjuna otherwise he/she will never succedd in it. ------ It is very clearly written in Mahbharat that whichever side Lord Krishna was, was the righteous one. So all the other who were against him i.e. Kauravas might be very valour but were evil

I seriously doubt BR Chopra and Ramanand Sagar had evil intentions and wanted to portray villains in positive light. They never claimed to show Valmiki's Ramayan or Ved Vyasa's Mahabharat. If you read the credits, they clearly specify various versions of these texts that they've referred to. Making such allegations about someone's intention isn't right. Especially when they helped revive culture in India.

There are some wrong information in this debate regarding meat eating. There is no meat eating in Mahabharata and Ramayan. Do read sanskrit to hindi translation there is a word in Sanskrit called Maasam, that means fruits inside part....there is no mention of meat or fish at all. All these English translation done by Max Muller and his companions. There are 46 letters in Sanskrit and 26 letters in English. How can someone translate Sanskrit in English. Ye sab Kiya gya sirf hinduon ko badnaam krne ke liye 😡😡😡

@Aghori because he is responsible for the many, many misconceptions people have about mahabharata, so much so, that people believe what she showed over what is actually available in the critical edition of the mahabharata. The most damaging myth his show popularised was the "Andhe ka putra Andha" one. Draupadi never said that. In any scripture or Purana. She wasn't even present when Duryodhana fell, yet people act like she brought the mistreatment she faced later upon herself by saying it. He is the one who made a hero out of Karna, a misogynist and abuser in mahabharata. There are crorers that commend Chopra for his work but the misconceptions he spread need to be pointed out and acknowledged.

Great Talk ! Also to note , the role of Indic commentators on the Mahabharata is something that is under emphasised ! The earliest “vedantic” Acharya who gave utmost importance to the Mahabharata was Acharya Madhva through his magnum opus “Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya”: Not just the Mahabharata itself but each dimension (or Atleast most) are already discussed in the Tatparya Nirnaya of Acharya Madhva especially in chapter 1 and chapter 2. Chapter 1 addresses the essence of the Vedas, extols the greatness of Rishi Vyasa Chapter 2 addresses the adulteration / hijacking of the Mahabharata back in 13th century itself Chapter 2 specifically highlights the 6 types of adulteration (decimation , interpolation , misinterpretation , error while copying / printing errors , grammatical ignorance and finally deliberate agenda based subversion ) Chapter 2 also extols the greatness of the Bharata, it’s comparison with the Vedas in essence , the role of Rishi Vyasa and so on Chapter 2 portrays how the Bharata is perfectly in line with the Vedas thereby giving the Vedas its due significance ! It also extols the greatness of the Bharata through the lens of the Puranas . The Acharya says that Bharata acts as a magnifying lens which exemplifies the ideas of the Vedas through relatable analogies and kathas which bear an impact on the reader at all levels . Chapter 2, Acharya mentions that he travelled across Bharat to find copies of the grantha , compared them , made observations , highlighted the 6 errors and then began his commentary. Chapter 3 onwards highlights how Bharata is an encapsulation of everything that one can conceive and perceive through the analogies presented in the Bharata. In a supplementary text (Yamaka Bharatam) : The Acharya highlights the importance of the letter “Bha” to India ! He writes a shloka with only the letter “Bha” repeated in the 4 padas! The commentary expounds the different meanings of this word “Bha” with its combinations and so on . Throughout he draws parallel to the Ramayana and the Bharata wrt the characters and so on Also , the work literally exposes the hypocrisy of so called Mahabharata Serials of the day : Over emphasis on Karna Under emphasis on Bhima Propaganda of Brahminical fascism through misinterpretation of the Ekalavya story Baseless sympathy on Duryodhana Allegations of fraud on Krishna Allegations of Draupadi having 5 husbands Conflict of karma ( violence - non violence ) Allegations on the difference between Vedic way of life and Pauranic way of life (the deities and gods etc) And more To all these , he gives his answers through critical evaluation and elucidation of the spirit of Bharata! These are just some aspects , throughout the work historical , etymological , numerological and philosophical nuances are highlighted by the Acharya !

I think distortions happen because people in general don't like thought provoking narratives; which these epics are; but they want your regular variety "masala" narrative with all sorts of modern drama.
