In this video I'm reviewing the Sanwu Silver series 4 watt 465nm / 470nm blue laser pointer. This particular model goes for $410, but they have other wavelengths and power outputs in the Silver series for as low as $180. One thing I forgot to mention in this video; the laser ships from China. Their shipping policies and details can be found here:

Hey I've not searched through all the comments here but I noticed you mentioned the size of the batteries being slightly bigger than normal. That's cause those are protected cells. They have a little pcb on the negative end that has a protection circuit to prevent over charge, over discharge, and short circuit. Most 18650 cells also have tiny vents around the + terminal to vent gasses if they short so they don't expand and explode. There's another temperature protection too that if tripped it disables the cell completely and permanently.

Because I was a bit unsure to this LPM's accuracy, I also had this laser measured by Laserpointerforums member Lifetime17. He measured the laser at 3.8W, which dropped to 3.2W after 60 seconds

I believe they're back using the older NUBM07E? open can diode pushed to a bit higher 5W output @470nm, rather than that closed 4W N465 diode.
@VSN1001
@VSN1001 5 жыл бұрын
Sanwu lasers have thermal protection. Thus the LPM measurement drop from 3.8W to 3.2W after 60sec is due to the overheating which triggered the thermal protection which reduces the current to the diode, hence a decreased power output. Furthermore, I believe why you were unable to reach the advertised 4W from your LPM aside from the use of a 3 element lens is that you expanded the beam. Thus, only part of the beam was hitting the thermopile resulting in a lower LPM reading.
@VSN1001
@VSN1001 5 жыл бұрын
As seen in 11:07 of your video, some parts of the beam is hitting the metal and not going through the hole to heat up the thermopile. These "wasted" light would help in achieving a higher reading

my spiker 7w laser has now arrived with a G2 lens... as have my dedicated eyeware for that model... the build quality and look of it is AMAZING.. uses 26650 x 2 batteries which are beasts in their own right, I put it on my LPM and it read 6.7w before smoke started coming off it, so I will have to de-focus it for a better reading. from initial test shots, it sets fire to anything its pointed at, so I will have to be careful with it!! I will try do a few short vids over next few days to quickly show it to you guys, hopefully XM360 will get one and do a proper review as my video editting skills are still quite basic!! I will post links when i get a few vids done for a feel of this awesome thing \i have he he ;-)

When you tested the output power and said that the unit was under spec, it clearly shows that you did not have the beam focus vs measuring unit setup properly. A large portion of the rectangular beam never made it in to be measured.

@Ambrose Killpack Yes, but what you described China can do for x10 less price and that was my point, it's all automated process. In fact this brand possibly is buying the lasers from china factories ( there's many on Alibaba to choose from or you can find someone on LinkedIn ) and sells for x10 the price either in an dropshipping way or customized one ( pre-ordered w/ their custom design ). Anyone can build brands like that nowadays.
@ExacoMvm
@ExacoMvm 4 жыл бұрын
@Ambrose Killpack Alibaba has all types of quality since alibaba is a site for manufacturers similar like aliexpress and anyone can sell there even Apple or Samsung, probs half of your house is now filled with that "Alibaba" quality items. For example if you use Razer mouse or keyboard it's exactly Alibaba quality you're talking about ( low-end tech ). Laser internals indeed has varying prices, but no matter the quality $300 is a joke it's just a basic tech inside. It's also obvious by the way how they charge extra $20 for the grid pattern even the cost and time of manufacturing is exact same mby just bit longer for the grid pattern since the CNC machine has to do more movements. In comparison you can get decent smartphone for $300 with OK camera, IPS screen, various other tech which if far more complex and more expensive to make than these lasers but why the price isn't $3000 then for the smartphone? Also just look for DIY laser videos on yt and how much they cost especially the most expensive parts which is internals ( the chassis/shell/tube itself is pennies for the factories since steel is so cheap ). Also another giveaway: i.gyazo.com/680e923c29b1b99137b451cfcb5c47ce.png 1x top level battery ( such as VTC6 ) costs around $3-5, maybe they include Tesla batteries there? But i doubt, they include probs 5A batteries which costs max $2 per piece and i'm not talking alibaba now, just official genuine stores that sells genuine batteries such as nkon.nl and many more even tho nkon i think is reseller but they sell genuine ones.
@ExacoMvm
@ExacoMvm 4 жыл бұрын
@Ambrose Killpack Well ofc u wont find same, some manufacturers can completely remake the design according to your needs e.g. if you provide them your CAD file. Or the seller probs has his own CNC machinery ( but then he/she most likely has shitloads of brands of various different products ). I have no doubts the Sanwu's lasers is decent, but they're overpriced mby not x10, but i'm sure it's atleast x3 more than what other brand would charge of same manufacturing cost, i would never trust a brand who charges $90 for 6 batteries in terms of their pricing. It just screams "we're overcharging". It also makes sense to overcharge for niche products to get the most out of it, since there wont be 1mil+ orders monthly, most likely just 20-150 per month and selling each laser for 5-20$ pure profit would not be worth it since he/she probs has to pay the salaries in time also make enough for a living. It's a fine business, but still the buyers needs to be aware of the ridiculous pricing, it's more like "if you're lazy to DIY and also rich, here we made it for you". Another example of niche product is "HiFi" headphone/audio cables, they usually cost to manufacture mby 30-50$ and sells for over $300, some companies even ask over $1000 for 2meter heaphone cable which you could DIY for 50-ish.
@ExacoMvm
@ExacoMvm 4 жыл бұрын
@Ambrose Killpack Well you can choose the parts yourself from utter garbage to absolute hi-end, pretty sure sanwu don't manufacture them in best case they just make the shell where every component sits also in best case they assemble/solder everything by hand. The batteries can cost $9, but it depends on seller also 6x9 is $54, not $90, they already make huge profit from the lasers itself why steal more? Also LG INR21700-M50T 5000mAh 7.3A is about 5euros. Make sure you check stores specialized in batteries, not some resellers like vape or flashlight stores or ebay ( ebay has alot of re-wrapped fake batteries for 2-3x the price ) cause i've seen some batteries for 10-15euros in vape stores even in reality they cost 2-4euros.

Have you tested laser modules? I bought a 2W M462 462nm module from dtr-lpf on eBay for $135. It's got an onboard buck driver, G2 lens and runs fine on 2x 18650's. It's just the module with power leads so I had to make my own host out of standard aluminium thick-wall tubing, the host bits cost about $15. Not as well finished as the equivalent Sanwu Silver (2W, 465nm, single mode, G2 lens) but the Sanwu costs $330, more than twice as much! You also get the satisfaction of making it yourself. Search for the module from dtr-lpf on eBay: "2W Copper 462nm M462 Blue Laser Module W/X-Drive & G-2 Glass Lens" Great review, by the way!

Did your product come with a nice carrying case that typically comes with the more expensive lasers? The product you ate reviewing is made by Sanwu, which I presume is a Chinese company. The information I am looking for is a hierarchy of sorts, which include every brand name of laser. For search purposes online, I was wondering if you could list the top brands, middle teir brands, as well as the cheap ones that I want to avoid. So in terms of brand name, is Sanwu the "Gucci" of laser pointers?

When you push a 462nm(1 watt) laser diode it can hit 465nm(2-3.5 watts) When you push it to the max 4+watts it can hit 470nm but shortens the life. When you showed outside footage in the wall it actually looked 470nm. But inside(dark) looked more like 460nm. I appreciated you mentioning and trying to duplicate the color you were seeing!

If you like pointing at extremely distant objects the beam expander is a must have. My Sanwus all have expanders, I like pointing out stars or shining the bottoms of clouds, the beams look like the thinnest little sliver miles away. The beam starts out about 3/4" in diameter, at 200 yards its about 1".

You are keeping those lasers on for way too long! I got the 3w 445nm challenger 2 I don't ever keep it switched on for more than 15 to 20 seconds, also I take the batteries out if I don't intend to use it for a day or more look after the diode bro -x-

I also have the challenger 2, 3 watt laser and have run it up to 45 seconds on, 1 minute off which seems fine. I also have two 18350 battery configuration with a g7 7mm lens to give more output. I love the challenger 2 host!

I admire you for dispassionately evaluating these laser pointers. One thing you miss to tell about the languity of operation of these pointers as this parameter is important for different applications.

My self-made laser pointer brings about 5 watts of power with the G2 Lens and the same LPM from Laserpointer Store $ 410 are too Overpriced, especially since he brings only about 3 watt with the Standard lens.

I had the same problem with the batteries,as they are longer than the others,but I solved it by putting a little neodymium magnet on the button top of one of my 30Q 18650.I have one silver series 5W,450nm blue.

Looking at the guardian series, Which nm/mw has the best beam divergence? Already have a 1.6w 445nm but beam is kinda bad. Want to get another relatively high powered one but don’t want one that has crappy beam specs like the silver in the video or my 445nm. Used to have a challenger in 405nm and it was almost a perfect dot.
