Sanyo FWZV475F DVD - VCR Combo. Will not play a tape repair. No parts required

A Sanyo FWZV475V DVD/VCR Combo was sent in from Arizona with the complaint of it will not play a tape. I found ne of the hard brakes was not aligned correctly and was not releasing when it should have.

I had the worst time with this model of Sanyo. First it would occasionally display horizontal waves would appear in the picture and the audio would cut out. Sometimes all color would drop out. I cleaned the heads, rollers and guides. Tested, now an event worse problem. A whine from the left side & playback issues. I had accidently bent the back tension arm slightly. I didn't know this until I ran across this video. I adjusted tension arm and bam, no more whine. Thank you for the video!

Great work ! I loved watching your video ! I have a Sylvania VCR and DVD combo that doesn't read the tape. Insert the tape, tape goes in but does not engage to load it. Model: DVR90VF I would appreciate any hints to go about resolving the issue. Thank you Renato

I actually new that they were still making VCRS as of 2016 (year that they discontinued manufacturing VCRS)

I'm trying to repair my Sanyo 2015 model FWDV225F DVD-VCR combo recorder not used for many years and would like to replace both drive belts while doing maintenance and cleaning. However I have been unable to find replacement belt part numbers or anyone selling aftermarket belts anywhere on the internet. Please, please, please help me by pointing me to your supplier. Your video is going to me extremely helpful but without the belts I'm batting zero! Thanks in advance for your anticipated response and wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I have this and I’m trying to figure out why the audio comes out scratchy. Picture is great and you can hear the original audio. But there is a background scratchy audio and I’m lost how to fix it…

I've fixed several of these after watching your videos, thanks for great info. I've got one right now that won't take a tape like the basket stuck. Any ideas?

Can you load it by hand with a tape in it? Check the 5 and 12 volts to the capstan motor, as it drives the loading motor.

2016 was the last year funai made a DVD/VCR combo and Sanyo was the name they chose for these last gasp combo units. In my opinion funai DVD/VCR combos were never great but these ones I find to be even worse then there previous models.

Did Funai ever manufactured something half decent?

@@UHF43 yes they did back between the years of 1984-1991. They used shintom mechanism for there transport in there VCRs and the mechanism were some of the best you could get. Also there 80s CD players were pretty good too as I have rebadged one sold under the Yorx name from 1988. I know that Yorx is a low end brand but my Yorx CD player still works to this day with no repairs and can any CD-R disk. Also Funai OEM the GE blockbuster boombox and the radio shack and Sears equivalents. Funai OEM boomboxes for radio shack, Montgomery Ward, Sears, GE, and more. So any Funai stuff that says made in Japan before 1992 then it's different ballgame.

This Sanyo is actually made by Funai (Symphonic). RCA was RCA until the late 80's-early 90's then Thompson Consumer Electronics (TCE) bought RCA. Now it is just a name unfortunately.

​@norcal715 that's hilarious! In the 70s and 80s Sanyo was decent. Then they went down the crapper. Had a great Sanyo stereo as a kid and always had a Sanyo boom box.
