Blues last try came after penalty advantage. They made a rookie error to score in the corner. With the advantage you have freedom to take it up with fowards to score close to the poles making it easier for extra 2 points.That type of decisions will cost them the title. The result might be a bit of a blessing as well because they just may face the Saders again.

The litmus test they use is whether or not the player had a realistic chance of regathering it and if he gets two hands to the ball, historically that has always been in favour of the defender. That is the first time I recall seeing a deliberate knock on called when a player has gone for the ball with two hands. Scrum only. No yellow card.

Not the worst for the blues, be a reminder for them that when it comes to the knock outs that you have to be clinical. Crusaders absolutely need this, and with some of their more experienced guys coming back from injury, you wouldnt want to be drawn against them in the quarters.

Assuming they make the Finals, a lot of things have to happen, they have to beat Moana Pasifika, and quite comfortably next week, and even then, they have to rely on other results to go their way.

Blues were unsettled by the return of Reiko and Perofeta. Midfield defence suffered, and the scrum got folded. These are fixable problems. Plus you'd still take the Blues season over the 'Saders so far.

If the Crusaders can finish 8th, I will pick them to beat the Blues at Eden Park if the Blues finish top. This is, of course, a big IF as they could easily lose to the Chiefs at Eden Park next week and even if they win it is very unlikely to be a bonus point win which they will need to finish top. The Hurricanes should get bonus point win against Highlanders next week. The Blues will want to avoid playing the Crusaders, so finishing second overall may be best.

Blues blew it. Reiko's return put a hole in midfield, Perofeta out back meant no cover defence, and a braindead blockdown sent him to the sideline letting the Cantabs walk one in. Blues still could've taken it, but the Crusaders playing at home with their season (and probably the coach's job) on the line were alwaus going to be tough. The Blues could afford the loss, their hosts not so much.

Nahhh force losing to Reds now and will be playing Brumbies next week so no more chances for them unless Brumbies give away the game. Highlanders must win against Drua because Hurricanes waiting for them next week. And Drua, if they lose tomorrow then it's a must win for them next or else Crusaders will take over the 8th spot. But main job next week is win against Moana next week with a bonus point for a maximum of 24pts😅

Well done Crusaders. 2024 version is one of the worst teams they've put out since the competition began in 96 but they always find a way to beat the top placed Blues. Now, in a 12 team competition 8 teams should not make the Knockout stages. finishing 8th should not be rewarded. It should be 6 at very most.

Is there some new rule where refs have to dish out at least one card? That call for a deliberate knock on seems like clutching at straws, he had deliberately placed himself in a place where he could intercept the ball, I'm very surprised he didn't catch it, he'd given himself a good chance to. He wasn't lunging at it, he wasn't just throwing a hand out at the ball, he'd put himself on the place to intercept the ball but failed to catch it, that's a knock on. If he has not tried to catch it, it probably hits him in the head, then what, no penalty? Play on? Maybe this will become a thing, intercept with your head so you can't be pinged. I realise these are interpretation of the rules by individual refs but they all seem to be all leaning heavily into calling an infringement at each and every opportunity even if it's marginal. They're looking for infringements where there might not be any.

As a neutral, I hesitate to climb onto the conspiracy bandwagon, but I do agree with you that this was the weirdest "deliberate knock on" I have seen. Getting two hands to the ball is always considered giving yourself a good chance or regathering and I cannot recall a single time when such a good chance of regathering was considered penalty and card worthy.

That ref was abysmal. I thought he favoured the Crusaders hugely, but put that down to some bias if you want. The Blues certainly didn't play to their peak, that's for sure. But the ref is everything that is wrong with rugby these days...he seemed to be in love with the sound of his own voice. There was an unbelievable amount of dead time in that game, with heaps of dicking around and him coaching the two sides in how to scrummage. Shut the hell up and ping the side that transgresses. Get the game moving and STFU. Also, at one stage in the last ten minutes he was telling the two sides to get a move on and form a scrum and they were just ignoring him. He didn't have the authority to get things moving and let the two teams decide it and stay out of the way. Plus he was over eager with the whistle.
