Hello burny bros, this week the boys take a closer look at the self-titled debut full length album from SAOSIN aka "The Beetle Album". We discuss the history of the band and Cove Reber joins the pod to discuss his time in the studio, what it was like to join the band at 18 years old, and the importance of producer Howard Benson's role in creating this record.

It’s interesting now being in my 30s, hearing the full truth from one of my favorite frontman. It’s also interesting that Reber’s attachment style is secure with how he was raised, but then setting the record of a confidence issue and not vocal issues in Saosin. It’s only now figuring out that my fearful avoidant attachment from my upbringing, and now trying to dissect my life, that it has been a struggle of trying to find more secure attachment styles or people who are truly working on themselves to not exude their attachment styles for interpersonal relationships in adulthood. I’ve always gravitated towards chaos because it was, “Normal,” and now really just wanting peace. And navigating if friendships/family/relationships are truly worth my time. And having a constant fight in this life with a high moral compass intermixed with my surroundings. Also, I always figured it had been strained vocal cords, since I’ve dealt with that issue and have seen other frontmen have issues with singing styles, to keep up with performances/recording albums/different frontmen. The beetle album was amazing. And I noticed the difference between that and In Search of Solid Ground but was hoping for continuation to follow through, but then the upheaval of everything, at the time, made no sense to me.

Translating the name ep was the project that defined my musical taste. It’s perfect… however I love this album so much, and I loved cove in this band (and everything else he’s done.) I don’t know how old you all are, but screamo/ emo/ post hardcore as absolutely mainstream in 2006. The mean girls in highschool were quoting TBS. It’s so wild to think the counterculture became the culture. AIM away messages were lyrics from The Used songs. The scene, was absolutely the scene. Scene is making a comeback though.

I saw saosin back in 08 and cove was lowkey my hero (even though he’s only 2 years older than me lol) and he was out and about after, I gave him props he dapped me up and that was sick. Craig Owens was out and about a year earlier and I gave him props, but he was hammered and kept hitting on my girlfriend and it was fucking weird. The scene was fucking weird. Cove has always been good though.

I thought that sleepers vid was awesome Edit: I just rewatched it. I was a big Anthony Green guy, in a way I still am, but it hurts my soul to watch Anthony sing TTN live. I genuinely think cove would do it better. Cove has the vocal energy, and I love Anthony, but man the fluffing falsettos during the heavy parts just is not it. I loved in search of solid ground too. “What We’re We Made For” was a crucial burn cruise track from 09-11. All of coves shit is great. I’ll always follow his projects. And if you’re reading this Cove, I still listen to tubbyman 2000 every once in a while. “WherEEEEEEEVer you are….” Fucking slaps.

It was unfair for Cove from the start. Bury Your Head fucking rocked, but it was a departure for TTN, I was all in the first time I heard cove recorded, and I can understand why people will be upset, but it’s fucked up fans did him dirty

The Beatles’ “white album” was titled The Beatles, and Weezer’s “blue album” was titled Weezer. I think it’s just a self titled thing to refer to the album itself rather than calling it their “self titled”
