this was so cute, i'm off to watch your ranboo book right away! i've always loved bookbinding and i appreciate how honest you are about it. like 'this took four hours' and 'yeah i just glued it on'. it just shows how you can make something sick even if you don't really know what you're doing. plus, i think the 'mistakes' like the faux leather, corner decorations being too small, the tea stain logo, etc... add a lot of character. it feels like karl made this book using all kinds of different materials throughout his journeys, and just ahh nice job! i know i'm only one person but you got a sub from me :D

Hello! I have never done bookbinding before and you have inspired me to try it! I love Ranboo and Karl's books, I think they look amazing! Also, I don't know if this was said in the comments already, but you said folding the material on the outside of the book was difficult to do around the spine. I remember in your Ranboo bookbinding you wrapped the outside of the book first before putting the pages in and I think that might help you feel more satisfied with the end result. But it look's amazing either way you do it!!

So for folding the excess leather let’s use the top edge down (and the bind on the left) example (for folding onto the cover that is).. you should probably cut a tiny slit up (opposite to the way you’re folding )with scissors where a major bumpy fold would be because that’s where the fabric is curving the most! I hope this tip helps I’m not sure if I’ve done this from sowing or covering things in fabric but I’m sure you can look it up! Have a good day and great work💛✨

Tip for painting stencils: paint the back ground/base colour first and let it dry completely before painting with the colour(s) you actually want the stencil piece to have. The base layer of paint will act almost like a seal to block any gaps or imperfections where the stencil is against the base material. That way when youve got it painted how you want it to be and you remove the stencil you should have crisp clean lines. You don’t need a whole lot of paint for the base colour layer, just a really quick thin layer is enough to do the job. A thick layer of the base paint and the final paint will cause raised areas after the stencil is gone, and those will be liable to chip off and get damaged a lot easier than thin layers would. Hopefully that helps in your next stencil project and hopefully it’ll save you some time as well!
