Okay long rant: This got me really excited actually. I am actually working on two cosplays right now, one of which is Philza and I may be wearing it to (my first) a ren faire next year. I've looked on their web and they say they have a cosplay comp, but i really am a total beginner and literally my first time making a full on cosplay. Everyone on the internet looks so cool and sophisticated and its kind of deteterred me because I feel like I would never be as good as them. A big part of my fear is going on stage and look like i wrapped myself in a mangy bedsheet while everyone else is dressed to the stars. I don't know half the terminology they're blurting out about sewing and I dont even own a sewing machine. 😅 Your channel is honestly such an inspiriation to me, and I basically started cosplaying *because* i watched your videos. You inspired me to start thinking and get really excited about cosplay, especially the mushroom witch video which i have watched no less than 5 times. Hopefully, with my casual worker balance of $289, one day I'll make it big :)

I don’t know if you’ve started working on the costume yet, but I just wanted to offer a suggestion for the tail. I absolutely adore Ariel, and I think a more body hugging skirt that flares out at the bottom would give that effect. I once got that effect by weirdly layering long and short petticoats. Just a random idea that I’ve always wanted to try

I’ve only done some cosplay, and anytime I think about doing a neche character or if I look like a character or am I unable to do something I remember one experience. So one year I had made a Cosplay of the King from Fallen Kingdom. (You know the Minecraft parody), so I wore it to school for holloween. I didn’t have a wig or anything and I am a hefty woman (teen then but same sentiment) so i don’t particularly look like the character that much. Anywho, so I’m walking arround school and I hear to my side two freshmen boys yell asking “Are you the king from Fallen kingdom?!?” I not and give a thumbs up. They proceed to go berserk saying that’s so cool and generally freaking out. It was passing period so we didn’t stop but man that was my favorite cosplay experience. So remember neche or otherwise, looking similar or otherwise, cosplay whoever it’s still so much fun!

As a artist i always never got the if you make say a 3D scene of a beach and u have a umbrella and beachball and a picnic with food basket and its all clean that it will get a better grade, then a complex scene of a underwater submarine with animation. To me it really makes no sense to me other than its hard to grade passion, its like make a simple cosplay clean and u win everything.

I competed once before back in 2017 at a big con completely messed up did no prep just went for it but was nice to know what to expect Usually i just do the masquerade without competing This year im competing at novive level at a smaller con im actually trying to prepare this time 😂 my cosplay skill has hopefully improved and even if i dont win if i place or get an honourable mention that would be good enough

🤔 maybe for the tail you can do a pair of pants/leggings or shorts with a high-low kind of skirt?? And if you do the shorts maybe you can do something like scale stockings or boots similar to the tail. 🤔 anyway, however you do the outfit will be awesome and I can't wait to see it!!!

For the tail, what if you do leggings and sew fabric on them to mimic the fins. It would be much easier to walk around in than any attempt at a tight skirted tail.

Hi! You probably won't see this comment in time for that convention and you've probably already finished/made the warrior ariel cosplay, but this is more for everyone else who is considering mermaid cosplays. there is a hobby called mermaiding, where you get a monofin & fabric (or silicone) mermaid tail and can actually swim in it or just wear it as a costume. believe it or not, a few Ariel cosplayers have now gotten or made actual mermaid tails with monofins and some have even done underwater shoots. i'm not sure if any of them have entered into any cosplay contests though. i have a vaporeon mermaid cosplay though and i'll be entering it into a contest- if you're considering this, what you can do is ask the staff/judges for special permission to bring your cosplay to prejudging on a bodyform, and for the stage portion, ask if you can be wheeled onstage. the judges might say yes! and if not, then they will probably allow stage handlers to bring you onstage and put you on a chair, then take you offstage.
