One of the worse things our society did was marking games as a "children's activity" that adults shouldn't partake in. It is such an important part of our instinctive social needs. I larped for nearly 20 years, I can't anymore due to health reasons, but it was a verry an important part of my development and social life as an adult. Don't ever let people tell you not to have harmless fun because it doesn't fit their stereotype of what you should be.

@EmiTheNinja8 күн бұрын
@@reineckefuchs7920it's definitely a hassle. I don't wear mine on the battlefield since I'm an Archer who skirmishes a lot. But I have found hot glueing a hair clip in the center helps keep them on a bit better I have also attached an elastic band on some before to add stability issue is finding it in a natural enough color to match hair
@reineckefuchs79208 күн бұрын
@EmiTheNinja man, I think we might have the same character concept! I'm an archer too xD I have kept my ears on, even on the battlefield for now, cause I hate myself, but yeah I might wanna find a way where I don't have to. I'm pretty new to larping so I'm not sure yet what the bounds of character integrity are, in terms of appearance. But I guess with fae you can be pretty liberal with continuity, I feel like. So you just glue a hair clip in the center? What kind, since it can't be too bulky for the hair band?

God that sounds like so much fun! I dont like telling people this because when i say it aloud it just sounds stupid and all, but I have a hollow metal stick that i twirl, dance with, imaginary fight with, and play with like a sword- and I'm 16. Im afraid when I tell people, they'll give me a smirk or a weird glance and basically imply its childish. But its amazing, and honestly its the perfect way for me to express myself and scratch that artists itch i cant get to any other way. Im terrible at drawing, or any physical art really, have an iffy singing voice, and still struggle to play my saxophone after 4 and a half years. But when i go outside, grab my stick, and start walking myself through epic stories in my backyard, I feel so free. I wish I could share that experience, I wish I could larp with other people, i wish people would look at me spin my stick like a sword and think "damn that was smooth, lets duel" instead of "damn, she still watches cartoons, doesnt she." Great video Jess, thanks :)

Very well said! If it makes you feel any better, I'm 21 and I still go out and battle with a couple of my friends too! Hell, we ended up picking up lightsabers and Star Wars cosplays and started learning the choreography to all the best duels from the prequel trilogy, and we practice right in the middle of our local park. A lot people actually get into it, surprisingly! I've never gotten the chance to go to a LARP, but this place is DEFINITELY on my radar and I hope to go within the next couple years. One thing I love about people who do this stuff is that they're always so unapologetically themselves. I hope you get the chance to go out there sometime as well. Who knows? Maybe we'll cross paths sometime or join the same guild! Should that ever be the case, I'd be happy to duel you!

@@flatstheflounder2884 thats a hard decision, there are so many good options! I feel like an OC like what Jess did would be my best route, but if we are talking star wars, clone wars style bo-katan or obi-wan would be really fun. I mean, i already say "Hello there." in a british accent as my go-to greeting, so im halfway there.
@flatstheflounder28843 ай бұрын
@@claudiacat4249 Hahaha yeah, that would be pretty cool! I'm thinking more along the lines of some sort of OC for something like this. I'm working on a ranger character with attire loosely inspired by Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings. Haven't worked out his name or much else, but he used to be a well-respected knight of some faraway kingdom. After discovering corruption within the high ranking officials, he confronted the King with his find. Rather than face the problem head-on, the King chose to turn a blind eye and had the ranger exiled. Now, he serves a better purpose, wandering from place to place and keeping the roads and forests safe for the freefolk of the world. I'm thinking of calling him Galen, both because I find the name to work pretty well, and sort of as a nod to Galen Marek (Starkiller) because I'm a Star Wars fan hahaha. Not sure about a surname just yet but something with meaning of course!

Nice video. You don’t need to go with TVN to go to bico. I was also there this year and drove up from the DC area and stayed in non-decorum all week. The total cost at bico for me was about $600 USD. This didn’t include hotels on the way up and back but that varies depending upon one’s travel plans. One bit of advice is if you don’t already know people at bico that you’ll need to be a bit more extroverted to meet people. I ended up becoming friends with two guilds by just walking around and talking to people.

Serious question that I have always wondered about events like this: What is the bathroom and shower situation like? Do they have buildings on site with restrooms and showers like you would with an actual summer camp? And what about accommodations for those with disabilities? Do people bring their kids, and, if so, is there child care so that they can leave them at home”ye olde day care” and head off to battle?
@iilastarfyr11983 ай бұрын
With The Voyage North (TVN) it is 21+. I did also see a bunch of little kids running around with tiny game daggers and muderous intent. I don't know if there is any available childcare, unfortunately.

There are showers and bathrooms, but they can be a bit of a hike depending on where your camp is. I would say that unfortunately this trip is not very accessible to someone with a physical disability. Even taking things slowly and at a low key pace, it's a very physically demanding time. Gravel and dirt roads, lots of hills and minimal lighting at night

Oh sweety that isn't northern Quebec, if you look at how far north Quebec goes being close to Quebec City/Trois Riveres is not north. But aside from that, super excited that you had a great time. I had no idea that Larping was this big in Quebec

This event looks so awesome. i once went to a smaller event, and my issue mainly was that alot of people were suffering from main charachter syndrome. Which then really killed the vibe in my opinion. Maybe one day i will fly all the way over there to join because it looks so cozy and fun ✨
