I have just discovered these too!! May 2020 - and now I am also totally hooked - - I have binged for three days - and am now getting really sad I'm on Assignment 5 out of 6 ... and I know it's not going to end well at the end of 6 :( ... HOW did I never watch these before?? Ah well - the pleasure is now ... Why did people say these were awful - they are moving, clever, beautifully paced, I love the philosophy and the surprises, the different notions of time and space - I'd say far superior to most Doctor Who - - What a shame following series never 'materialised' in this dimension ... perhaps it did in another ... THANK YOU to Jez T for uploading!! :)

I just noticed how the butler Greville's hair changes colour during the course of the assignment. Starting off grey, and getting more colour as time progresses, and the time reverts back to 1930. Nice little subliminal message there.

You can see the join not fully completed on the wall, which meant that part of the set could be moved to give different camera angles. Funnily enough Assignment 5 was not written by the normal writer and Joanna and David were not big fans of it because it was set outside the normal time period of the others. Whereas I think it’s the Top 3 of the show together with the Railway station and the final assignment.

This was my favourite of all the series, the murder mystery & the time reversal. Though one thing always puzzled me in the opening credits - what is the significance of the yellow mask when the "Medium elements" are being announced?

This was the one assignment which was not written by the creator Peter J Hammond who wrote the rest. It was written by Don Houghton and Anthony Read, which meant they had a very different style in writing to Peter's. Peter said it was interesting way it was written. Joanna Lumley said she and McCallum didn't like the idea of them "out of their time" as the other stories was all set on one era, but it was enjoyable for them to do something different. Peter was so busy writing he was behind with the last story, which is why ATV drafted in other writers for this assignment.

You have to watch them and remember when it was made and broadcast - 1979 to 1982, a different era of television compared to 2019. For example, the excellent Raffles drama series on ITV aired in 1977, and when they go to a commercial break they say "End of Act One" - as if it were a play on television. Totally different era.
