I haven't paid much attention to popular music since my kids all grew up, but I am amazed that we missed her on this side of the pond. We first got access to "broad band" a couple years ago and I decided to try to learn a little about pedal steel, something I've always enjoyed in records but never saw in person. It led me to Sarah's You tube videos, and I think I've watched them all now.

If you have ever had the opportunity to meet her you will know that she is a very down-to-earth person. I met her at the ISGA Convention in St. Louis. She always had her band in those days and it was a very expensive proposition to travel with them from London. I saw her again at the TSGA in Dallas 3 years ago without her band.

If you followed her early on you will know that she came to the ISGA at a very young age. Buddy Emmons was so impressed with her talent he chose to share his time on stage with her. She took the song "Mansion of a Hill" from him, even with the use of an Ebow .

Oh please, don't compare' it's not a competition. Dave HarTley (and not god by the way) is a great bloke and player, Sarah is a lady and also a great player in entirely a different way, her feel and emotion is unique and special to her plus she pushes beyond old-country into exciting new territory live. Musicians are great people full stop.

Sarah uses a device called an Ebow. If you look closely, you can see her place it on the strings and keeps her hand close to it to adjust it when it conflicts with the bar. The device is battery powered and works by vibrating the string she chooses.

Here's the story as told...A country song writer came to the Acuff Rose business and the owner Fred Rose told the man to come back the next day with a new song based on an outline he gave him. This man came back the next day with a song he called Mansion on The Hill. Of course the man was Hank Williams. Wesley Rose the son of Fred bought a 58 new hard top Ford when I sold cars. It was for his daughter. Years later I saw him in a store and I reminded him of the sale and or course he remembered. He said his daughter did not take care of the car. Rose Point on Old Hickory lake is being developed for private homes. They just started the third house.
