During season 1 I was all like: ''Rip is an idiot, Sara should obviously be captain instead''. Fortunately the writers realised this to.

Rip was always set up to be a tragic character who loses perspective and gets fucked in the long run because of it. I don't think the writers knew who the fan-favorite to replace him would be until deeper into season one. There's a turning point for Sara when she hones in her bloodlust that makes her the most stable member of the team. I think writing those episodes was when they decided that Sara was Rip's replacement.

I can think of many more scenes (like when she talked to Zari at the end of the Salem episode, "momma's got a headache", making Zari stay on the ship in S4 finale because " I'm not losing another Legend", telling Nate she' s proud of him when he leaves for the time bureau, many little encouraging moments with Ray like the time he thought his nickname "kid counselor" was intended as praise and she agrees, and the time she compliments his moustache with a fake encouraging mom-smile, etc.) But I love this vid.
