Eris made one massive mistake, and it was thinking she was good enough at writing to leave a letter instead of just waking up in the morning and telling Rudeus that she felt like she wasn't good enough for him as she was and that she wanted to train. Of course if that happened we wouldn't have the ED Arc of Rudeus going to Ranoa and best girl Sylphy might not have met Rudy again for many years.

Doesn't forgive what Eris did by a long shot but I think half the reason she didn't face him directly was... well, two reasons. First, she would've wavered. She knew she was emotional, felt like she knew what needed to be done but didn't know if she could go through with it if she had to tell Rudeus directly. In a sense it was her running away from the struggle of telling him what needed to be said. The second bit being that Rudeus was a bit too good at smooth talking and getting people to do what he wanted for his own good. It was the whole reason Paul knocked him out when he first sent Rudeus off to the Boreas household - in his own words (I think, it's been a while) Paul refused to have the conversation with Rudeus since he was absolutely convinced that his son would be able to talk him out of it. I wouldn't doubt it for a moment if Eris had that same thought when she resolved to go train with Ghislaine's master. Again, doesn't excuse what Eris did by a long shot and she should absolutely be held accountable for the emotional damage she inflicted on someone she claimed to care about - ultimately the way she went about it and her reasons for doing so were beyond selfish since it was more about how she felt than it being about Rudy. BUT I sort of get what was going on in her head when she did it and I could see where that line of thought came from.

Not that I want to defend Eris (because I've always been very critical of her actions in abandoning Rudy); but honestly, I think Sara is the least indicated to complain to Eris for what she did, since in the end for me what she does to Rudeus in his youth, makes him feel more miserable than he already was with the redhead (and remember that unlike Eris who it was a misunderstanding, Sara hurt him directly).

@@applesaucelord368 First, being apologized doesn't give you enough moral authority to criticize another person who hasn't apologized for doing exactly the same thing (hurting Rudy where it hurt him the most, which was sexual rejection). Second, while Eris took responsibility all her life to compensate Rudy in all the years she was with him after understanding her mistake, Sara instead only committed herself in word when she did it and didn't make any personal sacrifice for Rudy (like based on the feelings she confessed to him, she had to leave her group of adventurers and follow Rudy even if it was against her will); in the end Sara was very weak, she only committed herself in word and didn't atone for her sins by acknowledging her mistake... worse, she preferred to run away or continue with her life with a simple friendship that in the end didn't contribute anything to Rudeus apart from criticizing the one she shouldn't criticize.

Rudeus did explain how he felt Eris had abandoned him, and Eris did apologize, but it hadn't sunk in how much she actually hurt Rudeus until she met Sara, then Soldat (the latter of whom explained that Rudeus almost killed himself at one point). It was only then that the full weight of her actions hit her.

I have mixed feelings about Eris. To her she may not abandoned Rudy. But to Rudy, she had abandoned and even caused him to have a trauma. That’s just basically like a selfish or self centered person who doesn’t think about other’s perspective. Which is fucked up. Even to her son, Ars. It was enough of her to be called an abusive person for making his son a punching bag just cause she wants him to become a warrior. If she had treated her son better, he wouldn’t be wanting for someone’s love and attention. To me I blame the relationship of Ars and his aunt 60% to Eris treatment and the other to Aisha’s treatment.

And they didn't just have sex once; Eris literally asked Rudeus to become family with her and by that point they had built up romantic feelings for each other. Rudeus's devastation at being abandoned was entirely understandable and justified. Just because she did come back and help him doesn't undo the emotional damage she did to him.
