So, I can only rank arc 1-7, because I am the light novel reader and the last translated volume in my country is 32. 7. Arc 1 - it's great introduction to the story, but I just think every other arc is better. 6. Arc 3 - I think it's amazing, but other arcs are so incredible, I just can't put it higher. 5. Arc 4 - truly fantastic arc, but didn't impress me as much as arcs above. 4. Arc 2 - I know it's short, but I absolutely love this arc. The scene when Subaru is being chased by Rem hit me so hard I almost cried. 3. Arc 5 - it is right above arc 2, they are so close, but because of volume 19 I have to put arc 5 higher. 2. Arc 7 - I don't know how it ends yet (I hope I'll get to know soon), but man, volumes 31 and 32 are so magnificent I can't find words to describe it. 1. Arc 6 - this is the best arc of any media I have ever read. The characters developement, plot twists and volume 25 are just unrivaled. Basically, Re:Zero is the best and nothing comes close.

It also does something that a lot of stories does wrong (including arc 6/7) that is setting up a transition phase, as said in the video the arc wasn't planned at first, the author very well could have thrown subaru into the mansion and made him part of the group and started with arc 3, but he made a sensible and interesting storyline integrating subaru as the part of emilia faction in a way which seemed natural

Arc 7 is still underrated. The worldbuilding of vollachia and exploring of Subaru's RBD and some of his lingering character problems is still a huge plus. All introduced side characters had a role to follow and none of them were plain or generic. Tappei's overuse of teleportation also is not something uncommon. He has done that plenty in arc 4 and arc 6. Just understand Satella can teleport him wherever he wants. Which was the person that teleported him in both instances. It is lazy writing yea but it makes sense and it doesnt subtract from the reading experience. Also new Rem is thousand times more interesting than old Rem and Spica is a gigantic mystery that is still not solved. Like you cant rank Arc 7 lower than Arc 5 when it has 10 second loop and 75 and all those interesting characters *in a built up arc*.

I dont see either of the teleportations as cheap, for the first one, Satella wanted to kill Louis, after she left Subaru's body, Subaru got in the way, by grabbing the loli, and the divine dragon intervened teleporting them away. At least for me it makes sense. The second one seems cheap, but for all we know it will probably be explained when we hear Satella's POV, the story ain't over and both the infantelization and the shortened time leaps given by RBD where very much needed, this arc shows what Subaru can do with his power if he didn't let his deaths impact him. The leaps where geting smaller since arc 5, and I still think it is something important in the story

The teleportation makes sense in universe because Yin magic controls space and was being used to teleport Subaru somewhere else before being interrupted by Volcanica. That's the least controversial thing about Arc 7.

What matters is if the narrative supports it which I think, at least for the point of his abilities being weird made sense. The teleportation not as strongly and could be considered contrived but he did not break the rules of his world to make it happen so I don't see the issue, if anything it expanded the world in a great way since the arc, while messy, was a banger overall.

For its faults (which I acknowledge), arc 7 is honestly one of my favorite arcs in the series. I especially loved the beginning with the Jungle section from chapter 1 to Rem’s reawakened healing magic since it’s one of the only sections where Subaru is truly completely alone and can’t rely on anyone else to help him. Rem doesn’t trust him, he’s betrayed by Todd, Vincent’s sketchy, and the Shudrak capture him. One of the best openers to an arc so far (tho I’ve heard arc 9’s going crazy but I’m not caught up yet lol). I definitely think that arc 7 is way better on a binge read than reading it while it’s releasing, and I think it’ll be appreciated a lot more as time goes on. Anyways, my current ranking of arcs is probably 6 > 7 > 4 > 3 = 5 > 2 > 1 (I haven’t caught up with 8 or 9 yet)

It’s also worth mentioning that each arc is also structurally completely different from every other arc, so comparing them can feel like apples to oranges sometimes since the strengths of arc 5 are so different from the strengths of arc 4 for example. It’s one of the reasons why I love Re Zero so much with how it doesn’t really have any consistent structural formulas and makes every new arc feel so unpredictable and fresh (hell even RBD as a structural story mechanic was mostly optional in arc 5).

finally more re0 content, I will always respect you king bcuz of your s2 weekly videos I got DEEP into Re0. I hate watching anime as they come out, but you made it actually enjoyable. Nothing beats those wednesdays when after online school (sleeping) I would watch the new re0 ep and afterwards your video, esp the part 2 ones. That's just my opinion and it is possible that it will change in the future cuz both of them are still peak

Arc 2 is so unappreciated. The stakes being his memories and relationships is such amazing writing from tappei. What a great setup for what's to come. Crazy how tappei just adds stuff on a whim and proceeds to make a masterpiece out of it. God like writing.

Arc 7 and 8 are really messy, but I can't help but admire the ambition and guts that they had. I do think that by the end of Arc 8 Tappei really managed to make the Vollachian conflict feel like an integral step in Subaru's journey, and it includes some of my favorite moments of development for him. The Natsumi and child Subaru plotpoints could have eaisly been cheap, but I think Tappei handled them with grace and elegance, and Yorna, Vincent, and Todd are easily some of the best characters in the entire series. Again, they aren't perfect, but I think Arcs 7 and 8 work much better now that we have the full picture of what they were going for and what they were leading up to. It's one of those cases where the conclusion of a story reframes everything that came before it in a new way.

I viewed the arc 7/8 restart points as kind of a double edged sword. On one hand, you’re right in that he doesn’t lose really anything due to super recent checkpoints (Satella even allows him to go back to a previous checkpoint to undo what would’ve been a huge failure). On the other hand though, he had very little prep time. These arcs really forced his brain to work overtime to figure shit out.

yea, i thought it was interesting because he just died so much in quick succession, like whether his mind would be able to keep up with seemingly impossible odds having todd just mindgame him was a much needed first for him and the gladiator island stuff was just brutal, him slowly killing himself with poison so he doesnt feel "comfortable" dying i mean its obvious that he one way or another makes it through but it was still a cool perspective in my opinion and the ending of vollacia was great, making room for one of the most interesting characters in arc 9 now

My ranking would probably go like this: Arc4: imo I don’t think anything can top that arc Arc7: although I do have a few problems with arc 7 I feel like suburas stakes and him n rem being in a new location and she actively tries to run away from him really sets it off for me, and the whole gladiator arc was just amazing. Although I do think him being teleported randomly was a bit lazy, it makes a bit more sense when you start to piece together what’s happening within that arc. Arc 6: I did like this arc, the lore drops were nice but I have a huge problem with the second half, maybe it’s becux of the huge time gap between the first and second half’s but all and all it was a good arc. Arc 2: I think this arc was when the implications of his checkpoints really start to double down in. Arc 5: I think regulus heavily carried this arc, and the rest of the villains. Arc 1: no real criticism here Arc 3: although I did love the sloth sin archbishop. This arc imo doesn’t really hold much weight for me compaired to others Arc8: I don’t think this arc was bad or anything the fight scenes were cool but I just got to the point where all of the fighting just got a bit boring, the end was welling good and shocking to me wasn’t expecting that but. Besides the beginning and ending and the a couple fight scene I enjoyed this arc didn’t hold much for me.

Nah the arc 7 slander is insane 😭 It did so much it did so much for the world building, progress of the story and Subaru. I applaud tappei for writing something that ambitious and introducing a whole new set of characters

It also has shown the worst of Tappei's writing over and over again, like the blatant plot armor, plot conveniences and having to nerf Subaru multiple times to make the arc make sense. Problems that exist on other arcs but to a much lesser degree

I gotta catch up with the WN since I honestly fell off halfway through arc 7, but good god is Todd a fun character. Vincent’s alright, but like Todd and the way he not only hunts Subaru, but is actively fucking terrified of what he can do(The feeling being mutual between them btw) is just… I love it. My favorite part about Todd is how he’s literally just a regular ass dude who just happens to be pretty resourceful like Subaru. Anyway, good video as always dude. I missed this Re Zero content

I read the English volumes, so I just finished arc 6 and I was floored. It used one of my least favorite tropes in fiction to do one of the worst things it could have done with the story, to the point where I got visibly upset about it while reading... only to realize as it inched toward the end of the story exactly what it was trying to do. It stuck the landing in a pep talk scene that I think completely dwarves the one the "From Zero" scene in arc 3. It reminded me of my favorite scene in Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, which is also my favorite anime film of all time, and that's really high praise coming from me. It zipped arc 6 to the top of my own tier list, which is saying something because arc 4 was already at the top, having felt like a satisfying partial resolution of sorts to the first three arcs with tons of thematic payoff. After that, I really like arc 3, though I think the novel read better than the anime felt while watching due to the extra scenes over Subaru's making a fool of himself and the greater characterization of the side characters. There's a reason that it feels like so many side stories and EX volumes revolve around getting to know arc 3's characters. They're all just so good. Arc 5 has one of the better whiplash twists in the story, having convinced me it was going full shounen battle manga with its narrative, only to pull the rug out from underneath everyone's feet and proclaim "Hahaha! You fell for my diversion!" as the secrets of the arc are revealed. Arc 2 was good, but it still hit snags on trying to get me to care about Subaru's character or Rem's feelings for him following the arc. Arc 1 was good enough to initially hook me and showed a lot of potential, but as an intro arc, it has a lot of flaws, too. I do like some of the retroactively fun details setting up later arcs, though. You should make a ranking of the EX volumes next. They're technically just longer short stories, but they each have a nice storytelling cohesion to them and equally powerful moments as the main series that the shorter short series don't have time to build up. I love them.
