Sara Sigmundsdottir is a 24-year old Icelandic athlete who has finished in third place at the Reebok CrossFit Games for the past 2 years. Heading into the 2017 Games, she's taken the title for both the Reebok CrossFit Games Open and the Central Regional this season. She has also competed in several weightlifting competitions and broke several Icelandic national records at the 2017 WOW Reykjavik Games Olympic Weightlifting Championships.
Sara started CrossFit in 2012 with very little competitive athletic background, growing up with a passion for music and art. After finding her way from bootcamp training to CrossFit, Sara made her competitive debut in 2013 and eventually made her way to the top of the podium at the Meridian Regional in 2015 and 2016. We caught up recently at CrossFit Mayhem, where she has been living and training this season for the 2017 CrossFit Games.

Late listening to this, but glad I found your podcast. I have been following Crossfit for 3 years as a fan and a month ago, joined a box. I am so incredibly excited to be a part of what I have loved to follow for so long. Thanks for sharing. The change in my nutrition and workouts have been a world of change. I am coming from a couple days a week in the gym and a couple days a week trail running and lost my love of road running completely and needed this change. It has mentally been the best thing for me and I am winning physically too!

Great interview with Sara. I've always been a huge fan of hers. My wife wanted to be but she (my wife) couldn't stand her coach and thought he was such a jerk from the content you saw him in. Not that Sara sees him that way but at any rate the toxic vibes were coming through. The Mayhem team is a real inspiration in how to work hard and approach life. I'm glad Sara had the grit and tenacity to assess her life and make the changes she needs to get where she wants to be, including happiness. She's going to be a force this year.

When I was a young man in the sixties we didn;'t have young people like this. At least I didn't know of many. The world is opening up in so many ways. I hope we can keep progressing but it looks very challenging to me. In 1963 when I was 18 at UF I had a general physical activity course. We started with gymnastics. After a month I tole the coach I wanted to try an Iron Cross on the rings that I had seen one of the gymnastic team members do. He said I was too big but if I wanted to try I could. I did a very decent Iron Cross for about ten secounds and he and another coach were jumping around like it was really special. I was 6'2" and 235 lbs.

I love cross fit so much more than MMA fights. I just like watching people getting in a great workout like Sara does & feel there motivation, drive & aggressive nature fuel my atmosphere as a challenge to meet. I have researched advanced healing tools for years & truly desire to see pro athletes getting exposure to such advanced recovery healing tools & give feed back like from E.M.S. electrical muscle stimulation, Pulsed Magnetic tools, a multitude for Massage devices & lotions, oils there are healing sound beds called Acoustic Vibration Lounge that helps with all forms of stress. I wish Cross fit be raised by the public support system by Boy's & Girls clubs, Gym's, Schools. I have a saying "May America raise it's self buy it's Gym shoe laces at the YMCA" & thus lower Health costs nation wide & receive 5 K after passing a physical exam every 5 years. Money motivates people to stay out of the Medical Doctors Big Pharma Menu board. Ask to see your M.D.s Menu for any illness your being treated for & if He/She askes what you are looking for? Tell them anything on there Menu that appears not to be a Pharmacutical man made synthetic molecular structure made to sell stocks for Drug Alopathic Medical Industry. Massage therapy is the most advanced therapy we all need yet never get. Americans are the most touch deprived people in the world. Stress is death Massage therapy erases all forms for stres that being Physical stress, emotional stress,& environmental stress the toxins we inhale, drink, eat & use in Laundry detergents & all such chemical exposure as well as toxic people, work, jobs, etc. Massage the ones you love. Amen, make it so!
