Kansas meets Foreigner meets Angel Witch. A great mix of heavy metal, synthpop, and hard rock

Disappointing after the first classic album. This seems a smoother, cleaner more commercial production, 1980's style, however, not quite as bad as I remembered it. Tracks after first two get better- but it's still pretty standard to be honest. Just disappointing that Saracen didn't continue in the vein of Heroes, Saints and Fools with a harder, vital edge. Then again I don't feel Maiden ever improved on their first epic album IMHO.

Not even with Killers? To me, those first two albums could have been a double-album. They're musically/thematically very close.

The songs are good. The problem is the f***ing producer who took all the edge and power out of the instruments to make them sound like the typical, trendy pop-hard rock band--but this issue was going on through the mid-to-late 1980s with rock bands being emasculated by producers and mixers who tried to make them sound radio-friendly. I know there's probably no resources to do this, but this album DESPERATELY needs to be re-mixed (and given a new cover), which would make it sound much more like their debut.
