73 years old here, messed up almost 59 years ago by not waiting for love of my life as he went to Vietnam. I married another while he was at war and it's been 1 mistake after another for me since. He came back from Nam, got married got in car crash and died at 29 . I am now old no children no love of my life. I understand messing up. *2002 I went from life just beginning, to my first severe heart break and a break of my mind that led to anorexia and promiscuity as a result of mental health disorder ramping, to being tossed away by my dad, taken back in by my mom and turned 17 in October, and had my pregnancy confirmed by December.* *2003 I hear this song for the first time and I had to make the car stop and I had them replay the cd. It hurt. I bawled my eyes out. But I was feeling it all. I listened to this on loop every single day for that year and I had my baby August 2003. I still had a hope back then.* *2023 and this is the first time I am listening to it since then. And it hurts in a different way. I went through sex trafficking, addiction and becoming someone that even I didn't recognize. Now at 38 even more so, despite being clean and escaping it and leaving my family and the state of Florida and moving 1700 miles to Wisconsin. I am 38 and I am the one no one talks to because I didn't land the perfect life they expected. I have scars and no longer smile. I fake emotion for my 14 and 16 yo kids that are left in my home. As the eldest 2 boys are moved out. I am a shell. And I am the result of ruin. Everyone experiences the now as I walk through nightmares from a lifetime ago without them even realizing. I am living with reality that suicide would make me worse of a mother. But living is so pain filled. So everyone just looks the other way. And I have excepted that. I've read a lot of the comments below. My opinion is you get out of life what you put in at various degrees. If you want something to happen, make it happen. I have learned to own my shit, change it if need be, stop complaining if I'm not putting in enough effort, rely on myself first, before others, suck it up, let it go, move forward, grow, repeat. At some point we just need to get out of our own head and out of our own way. "Everybody hurts" as the song says. Get yourself around positive people and be inspired by them. Don't dwell in the dark and listen to sad songs. That'll lure you in to deeper sadness. I live alone by choice and I don't feel lonely very often anymore. Wow. I've known this song for a while, through my addiction and the 9 years since I quit. Three years ago,my family had to run from the fires in Oregon. My kids dad changed at that point, he felt nothing afterward. I ended up leaving him and my kids two years later because I was in a very dark spot and it was affecting my kids. I was gone for a year, in a shelter 85 miles from everything I loved. Came back home in June, and rebuildi g a friendship with my kids dad. But that second verse hits hard these days.
