I would generally agree with you, but there have been actual studies on the effect of Fey's impersonation that concluded that it reduced support for Palin's ticket by a few tenths of a percent. It's not much, but considering that it was just some comedian making fun of a politician, the fact that there was any measurable change is pretty impressive!

Second, I think the fact that he's worth billions of dollars, was alredy a household name and had been on his own TV show might have had some slight influence there.
