Sometimes it depends on many things. I used to be friends with my exes but my last one cheated on me for 2 years and I knew it afterwards by mutual friends. Don't need this kind of person in my life again. When there is no treason you can get along , but when you end the relationship in a very disrespectful way it could be so much harder to still have a bond.

It should always be like that, if you didn't break up for some nasty reasons. While it's rarely the case when you are in your early twenties, it's quite normal after you reach a certain age. I have this relationship with my last 3 boyfriends, we are really close and I buy gifts for their kids and we have coffee together and chat about things. But some people are childish even when they are 40, so...just don't date scumbags and don't be one. Case solved!

@@84Elenai It's true..... although I hate my 1st boyfriend from the bottom 9f my heart bcz he is really a horrible person and due to him I fell into depression but my 2nd boyfriend became my best friend and helped me come out of depression..... Although when my mental health started getting better I felt I have no feelings of love or sex left for anyone...at least not for then ..so I told that to my boyfriend(who is a really amazing human) and we ended our dating thing and became only friends again......now he is married but we are still best friends and we can still talk about anything comfortably.....He is really one of the best human being I have ever met and luckily got a wonderful girl as his wife

I honestly feel like the way these two are together, plus how Michael Sheen and Kate Beckinsale are together - and how Kate and Sarah are together... is truly the future we need to want for the generations to come. It should no longer be fashionable to be resentful or spiteful towards your ex, it should be "cool" to forgive and forget and heal and move on. I love seeing that kind of stuff. My parents are from a generation where being able to talk after divorce is extremely rare... I hope this is the future.

I think so too! A long term relationship I had recently ended and we're doing our best to be great friends and so far it's working very well. I feel lucky because she knows me better than anyone. Even more than my friends or family and we both still care for each other and hope the best for each other. It's actually an incredible feeling to know someone like that.

My ex husband and I have been divorced 5 years and we're really good friends. We were really good friends before dating and all through the marriage. When we split we were both heartbroken. In the first year we were kind to eachother initially for only 2 reasons 1. For the sake of the kids and 2. Not wanting to do any more harm since the marriage was already (as they say in divorce court) "irreparably broken." We both wanted to move on and heal. Eventually I think we remembered how to be friends again and that'd we'd always been great friends for the last 17 years. So from the ashes of our failed marriage a friendship grew there and I think it started with how much we respected the other person as a great parent. That was one reason we actually stayed married too long was we were just both devoted to our kids and didn't want to break up our family. He's a wonderful father and a good man and a good friend and I have no regrets that I married him or had kids with him. I only feel happy these days, I think we both let go of the past and want the other person to be happy as much as we want our own happiness. So anyway yes I hope the future of divorce is learning to forgive and let go of the past and heal. So I 100% loved your comment OP

I love this interview because you can see all the little hints & references to their past, all the little ways of interacting they have that were probably why they fell in love & now are just the reasons why they still care about eachother. If you'd asked me to name 2 ex's who are super-mature about their breakup, I wouldn't have picked these 2. But it's really lovely to see. Affection can change its shape, if you work at it. Reminds me in a way of David Spade & Ellen, the story they tell about how David kinda had a crush on Ellen until he found out she was...um...on the women's baseball team. The feelings changed to friendship & they've been really good friends for 20 years. It's always great to watch Spade on Ellen's show, they're so fun together. Love can change its shape over time.

I can totally relate. I fell from 3 floors up and woke up after a month or so, two weeks in a coma, with my hands tied down to my sides, too. 5 months of retrograde amnesia, a cracked skull, blind in my left eye, a punctured liver and a dislocated finger. Even after leaving the hospital, I felt sad, angry, depressed and lost in life. I felt as if I didn't know who I was anymore. That happened 1 December 2017. Today, I have healed from that. I did that, in one way, by trying hard to push my unwanted emotions aside everyday and be grateful, not for what happened to me but grateful that i am alive. Semper Fi.
