When I was younger, I sang Send in the CLowns for lots of performances. THEN I heard Sarah Vaughan sing it on a PBS special. Mic drop - it was the definitive version. Never sang it again, lol! What a gift she was.

That's how I got into her. Amy said her voice was like an instrument. Amy talked about Carleen Anderson and Donny Hathaway and I love them too. Donny Hathaway's voice is absolutely ridiculous. If you haven't listened to him, you really should. Amy was the one who got me into Jazz because of all the people she mentioned. I love her Frank album, it's amazing!

"The Divine One!" I wish I had been able to hear her in person. She is my favorite jazz singer of all time. Her range and interpretive gift is unparalleled. I wish this had been recorded so that I could have it in a better format, but I am grateful that it's on KZbin. I mouth the words and dedicate it to my husband who passed away of pancreatic cancer. I lost my voice but used to sing jazz. She influenced me more than anyone! Thank you!😀

The Beatles and British Invasion were the worst thing that could've happened to American pop music scene from the '50s and early '60s. This woman was one of the casualties. By 1965, folks like Sarah, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few were having trouble getting work and selling records. The record buying public were flocking to British groups like the Beatles and Rolling Stones in droves. Basically from 1965 onwards Sarah couldn't pick and choose her gigs, she got whatever came to her. She admittedly confessed waiting for the phone to ring for performance gigs was no fun. Basically between 1964-69, she did not work. This performance was the start of her semi "comeback" in 1969. By the early '70s, Sarah was on another journey of her incredible musical artistry.
