Hi, go to New York every year for Christmas. Any tips on watching the Tree lighting (never there for lighting) on the 4th this year? Time to get there before the crowds and where to stand? Thanks! Also is Per Se worth it? Been to Madison Avenue Park and Le Bernardin so done those.
@brendalee46725 жыл бұрын
You might be missing one important detail when you are recommending The Rock over the ESB. Speaking from a tourist point of view, I might only get to NYC once in my life and I certainly didn't watch movies growing up with The Rock.Heck, I barely have heard of the top of the rock. Visiting New York for me is about seeing all of the things that I have watched in my childhood. Old movies from the 40's, Sex in the city in the 90's. The romance of ESB with the history, the Art Deco design etc holds a lot of value in the eyes of someone 40 plus. The better view is irrelevant to some. I will probably see both because I am going to NYC in April and I would appreciate the good view too.I know visiting places that we watched on Sex in the City may seem silly to a young, hip New Yorker like you but us middle aged women wouldn't miss a chance to see things you probably consider a waste of time.
@nunosantos86515 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the pass are those attractions listed. Not doing something (like the ESB) is not a fair comparison. I might agree with the tip, but going to the Empire will be an objective of the typical tourist. Plus the skip the line and flexibility with schedules are very nice advantages. Museums are free if you can go on those days and hours (and normally very overcrowded). Normally love the videos, but on this one I don't think you are doing a real comparison. The comparison should include the Empire price and the disclaimer that if you cannot go to the museums on those free periods, it will be an advantage.
@jazzyjay815 жыл бұрын
Going to have to agree with you Nuno. So let's fix her comparison: ESB is $38 for the 86th floor. Note: CityPass does NOT include access to the 102nd floor, but does include an audio tour and getting to come back once PM the same night (not sure this is a perk) so it says its a $64 value. This ticket for 86th an 102nd is $58. So if you don't care about the audio tour... and coming back twice not really a good value here. Buy the $38 or $58 ticket. American Museum of Natural History is indeed pay what you wish. But only at the ticket counter which means you might have to stand in line. So $0 is accurate, but feels really cheap. Next is the MET. The City pass includes the audio tour again which raises the price for $25 to $32.. So if you care nothing about the audio its $7 less to buy it yourself. Top of the Rock.. $42 Ferry Ride $18 OR you can ride the Staten Island ferry and pass by for free, but let's keep this a fair comparison. 9/11 Museum is $28 or Air/Space $33.. only one day a week for free is not really a fair comparison. How many people are visiting NYC on a Tuesday? So.. let's add it up.. $38+$0+$42+$18+$28 = $126 which is still less than the the Citypass...

@carolineburke80023 жыл бұрын
Sarah I love your videos but couldn’t disagree more with this particular one. I’m Australian and have spent approx 30 days in the city over three different visits. NYC is absolutely my favourite city in the world. I have several issues with your video however. You talk about free days at several of the museums … yes there are but when we attended Moma on a free Friday it was beyond crowded and not pleasant at all. I would rather pay a premium for a little space and anxiety free visit. Additionally many people visit the city for a short time and can’t plan to be there on a ‘free’ day. I much preferred the Empire State building to the Top of the Rock (2019) … it was less crowded and recently renovated. I couldn’t get near the front of the viewing deck at Top of the Rock. The Natural Museum of History maybe a ‘pay what you can’ venue but shouldn’t we be supporting these institutions. The Guggenheim is a Frank Lloyd Wright Masterpiece - forget the art even and it is still very much worth the visit. And the Circle Cruise… we thoroughly enjoyed it, having done it twice - and enjoyed every moment. I’m fussy and anxiety ridden and not once felt it wasn’t worth the effort. Additionally what you failed to mention is that you don’t need to wait in a long line for any of these attractions but rather bypass the queue. When you are a tourist with limited time, this is important.
@BillLevenson5 жыл бұрын
Something about all the museums in the CityPass: if you are a tourist and have just a few days to explore the city, you can really go to just one or perhaps two museums or activities in one day. You can also spend a long time or all day at the Met. And also just getting around the city takes time if you were to go to two museums in one day. So it is better to pay for things as you go rather than getting the CityPass.

Need to mention that Museums are ONLY FREE for NYC residents, all non residents and international tourists have to pay. Unless you can book in for one of the "free days" which some Museums do eg. Guggenheim does free entry on Saturdays from 5-8pm. But see each Museums website for more info on what days are free (as far as I know, the MET doesn't do free days).
@laceyboykin59778 ай бұрын
I noticed that too. Maybe it was pre-Covid days that you could get free admission as a tourist. I see this video was made 4 years ago & im going to NY for the first time in 10 days & so far the pass would totally be worth it since FREE tickets aren’t mostly an option now for us tourists.
@user-ef5id9km3p8 ай бұрын
@@laceyboykin5977 I went to NYC for the first time a few months ago, and this pass is absolutely worth it. Anyway we got the flexi-pass and chose how many attractions vs the day pass, less time pressure. My advice, take your time, soak it all in, because its so big it can be overwhelming and tiring (you walk ALOT even catching the subway, you still have to walk alot to and from the subway etc). Luckily our hotel was on the 1,2,3 line, and we were only 1 stop from penn station and 2 stops from timesquare, and our station was at the end of our block, 2 mins walk away. The only down sides I found were a) its so expensive, and 2) certain people in hospitality were very very rude, not gonna say which ethnicity, but we found ALL of these women were absolutely rude to us, without exception, and I'm a person of color myself. Anyway, other than that, its such an incredible city, we only went for a week, but it wasn't long enough, so we are hoping to go back. We are from Australia.

Honestly these kinds of videos always annoy me a little because obviously YOU wouldn’t like going to the Empire State Building because you’re FROM New York. But I’m from Germany and have been wanting to go to the top of the Empire State Building for YEARS and it was amazing doing it in the end. Why is that so hard to understand for people from New York? Yeah it’s touristy but I AM A TOURIST. So, for people who do want to fulfill their lifelong dream of going to the Empire State Building (like most tourists do) it’s your 84 dollars PLUS 56 for a day and night ticket to the Empire State Building (which is what you get with the citypass) making it $140. Guess what: you save money with the citypass, if you just do the math it’s pretty simple you know. Also, Museums are terribly overcrowded at the times they’re free so that’s not really comparable to being able to choose when to go independently. I also didn’t expect the whole video to just be a sponsorship... would’ve been nice to mention that. You’re obviously not objectively talking about a direct competitor of your sponsor.
@HappyPhantom668 Жыл бұрын
I know this comment is old, but just curious, did you end up going up the Empire State Building at all? Or Top of the Rock? Cause believe me, I was the same when I started planning for my trip, but I read tons of advice from locals and they all said, go to Top of the Rock, because you can see Empire State from there, plus it’s kinda hard getting a photo of that building when you’re right next to it lol

Purchased 2 CityPASS tickets which had stated that we would receive 5 attraction in Atlanta that had to be used in 9 days and when we called to make reservations we were told that nothing would be available till April after we had already flown up from Ft Lauderdale Florida and were at our hotel. We found out that the ones that needed a reservations were not available through CityPASS but were available for full price at each attraction. That only 100 CityPASS holders can enter these attractions where 1000s attend. All we were offered was a refund which stated would take up to 15 days, and no compensation for our inconvenience and ruined our vacation.

So people say that you don’t have to pay for the museum of natural history but I stood in line to get a ticket once and said I was under the impression it was pay what you wish. The teller told me no that is not true and we had to pay. Well I was a poor student at the time so we left. Talk about being embarrassed and pissed that I was told I should be able to go for free(from a different tour guide).

I bought the City Pass for 121 € (131 $) and would like to see ESB, Top to the Rock, 9/11 museum at 12 p.m., Circle Line Best of NYC and AMNH+special exhibition+Rose Center for Earth and Space. Normal price is $ 190 p.p. so i save 177$ for three persons with city pass. I was on the sightseeing pass page, but I don't understand how to handle, and it seems more expensive to me. Scam is something else for me e.g. the fake monk.

Years of aimless wandering on observation decks and in museums full of stuff I know little or nothing about have led me to the obvious realization that touring without knowledge gained through prior research or life experience is money wasted. And considering the admission prices for NYC attractions, that is even more important today than when I was gadding about in the mid to late 1900s. Nowadays, just riding the subway to get to some of the attractions involves a cost consideration.

This video was so informative. Thank you so much. I've been to New York City a handful of times mostly in the tourist area where I didn't have to venture too far. But there's so much more I want to see like Greenwich Village and just things off of the main path. Your videos really help me think about different areas I could go. My issue is, my budget doesn't really allow for an overnight stay, so coming from Rhode Island with the train I can get a good eight hours in the city and trying to maximize that time. I've never been to the Metropolitan Museum of art, and think that may be a good way to go.
