Idea for the terrarium: you could paint the inner background black so the cemetery inside will be more visible and not blend in with your surroundings, since it´s all clear glass. Everything looks great!
@samanthawhat4 жыл бұрын
I agree about the black background. She could even slip some black paper or something in the background if she didn’t want it to be a permanent change.
@jurosed4 жыл бұрын
I agree! She can also use some black paper and use a toothbrush to do the paint splatter effect with white paint to look like a starry night c:

What about cotton pulled apart as fog? Might 'frame' the headstones like the grass does but can also lift up as more of a background as well.

As an art major in college, I just wanted to say that you are doing everything perfectly. Art should be messy and experimenting/not knowing is part of the process 💛 Though if you do more painting projects in the future, I recommend using a plastic palette since the paint absorbs into cardboard which makes it dry faster. You don’t need anything fancy either; literally just a plastic lid to a yogurt container or something or plastic packaging is just fine.
@rocioiribe58414 жыл бұрын
Save any plastic food containers and they're perfect for mixing paint. For ex, i have a couple shredded parmesan and yogurt ones.

So what are your thoughts on decor purchasing habits? I almost feel like the amount of decor turnover being pushed by store like michaels, home goods, Ross, etc approaches a fast-fashion type of wastefulness and unsustainability. Love going to goodwill for their halloween section though.
@meanestmachine4 жыл бұрын
This is true, though I think Sarah has said that all of this stuff she stores and reuses. Nothing is just a one-off item. She might not use everything on year, but it doesn’t get tossed and will likely see another season. I think for people less mindful than Sarah it’s definitely an issue. That’s why I try to get all year round home decor so I’m forced to really love an item, not just think “oh this’ll be cute for Halloween” because then I’d have no self control lol
@nocterniaobscura4 жыл бұрын
yeah Halloween is in fashion the last few years and the amount of stuff produced is ridiculous. Sarah reuses the stuff fortunately, we can see that in her videos. So even the stuff she buys new have a long life ahead of them. Personally I use them as decor all year round so I think 2-3 times before buying and I try to find them secondhand too! Also a great alternative is the little DIYs like the one she made with the bottles, were you do not really buy anything, you make it! Even the candle holder with the snake is an easy DIY if you have a candle holder and an old snake toy! I wish more people went for the DIY or second hand option, but I get that not everyone can, so I hope people at least minimize the purchases and use them many years!!

I love your DIY videos and your Halloween decor hauls, this is my favorite time of year! Spooky Queens UNITE! I bought the tarot bowl because of this video (NO blame, ha ha), it's GORGEOUS and I also bought the tarot card drink coasters that was on the World Market website! I needed them, you understand lol! I'm hoping my order won't be cancelled, I had that happen with a JoAnn's order yesterday - I tried buying a black crescent moon wreath and it was plucked outta my hands, so sad! I have gone to a few 99 Cent Stores to try and find the ceramic Palmistry hands but I found none, I'm so sad about that... I've been collecting Palmistry hands for a couple of years. I saw the gold snake candle holders but the two that were left were sad snakes, very wonky. I love how much stuff the dollar stores have this year, they are upping their Halloween game, it's just not my aesthetic. Halloween decor is lifestyle decor for me.... I need things to look like they would fit right at home in an Oddities cabinet and not cutesy, kitchy, or cheesy. I would say Michael's has been wonderful for that kind of aesthetic for me the last two years and they keep getting better. One collection I saw on another video had a green, burgundy, and black color theme - skulls with flowers, dragon eye bottles, snakes and such. JoAnn's was a disappointment, the spooky art deco thing is pretty but not my cup o' tea. My favorite of your DIY's were the bottles, the "wax" looks amazing! I painted tall glass jar candles last year and the more you touch them, the more the paint can scratch off so beware!

Idea for the gold snake to make it even more cool! Do some dry brush technique on it with like a black or brown paint. Kinda where you have a very small amount of paint on the brush and kinda lightly go over it. Would just add some extra dimension to it and really accentuate the scales! Love the terrarium in this! Definitely going to do something inspired by that!

You could probably just stick the candle in there and then apply the hot glue just like how she did, it would probably make the candle stuck there forever though lol, and you couldn’t use it unless you’re okay with the wax running down onto the bottle & hot glue. But it would look really cool regardless!!

I think that the snake came out a lot better than it was! Gold is a dead giveaway (halloween pun intended?) for cheap dollar shop items. You can also try “dry brush technique”, which is probably quite self explanatory, to add depth to the scales and make the gold more tarnished.
