jk rowling created the world of harry potter, one can not separate the art from the creator. she will always be in each of the characters, it’s her world and every time you read the books of watch the movies you’re visiting a part of her mind and imagination.

That is true but there were hundreds of other people that were involved in making the world of Harry Potter available to us: the publishers, the actors, film producers, merchandise designers, theme park builders as well as all the small companies that create Harry Potter content/merch completely independent of her. Those people deserve the support and thanks for creating the HP universe, she may have created it first but she does not get ALL the credit.

L N Well if you stand by her I’ll assume you support her discrimination of non-cis people. It may seem ‘silly’ to want to separate the artist from the art but for a lot of people that is super important because many trans people around the world have found solace and fun within the Harry Potter universe so the fact that it’s creator is transphobic is hugely hurtful to a large portion of her fans. Therefore, these fans do not want to support her as a person but still want to enjoy the fictional universe that pretty much anything is possible within.

I was thinking the same. I don’t see buying this plastic decor any different than fast fashion...so I was surprised when I saw this haul. Thought she would thrift or just use the old things she already has. This haul is like any fast fashion haul, the same madness of “I bought way too many things omg don’t judge me”. It’s the same children painting your Halloween decor that sew your clothes...

@@irii5532 She did say right at the end that she will keep this stuff for life as its something she collects and is passionate about so hopefully none of it will be thrown away. Also, there is no ethical consumption under capitalism anyway so she's just trying to do her best like the rest of us. This is not an excuse of course but it is INCREDIBLY hard not to buy anything that doesn't harm someone somewhere.

I was thinking the same when she said the price of that skull+dragon, because I thought that 30 was not bad - someone had to craft it and get paid, right? And i think that all the other stuff is probably way to cheap to be at least kind of fair. ;) But I like that she is reusing many of her decor stuff and said she will keep it for as long as possible, which is a good mindset!

If you don’t like how “goldy” the candelabra snake is you could dilute some black or gray paint and muddy it up a bit. That sort of painting will make it look more weathered and worn, which I’m guessing is more of the style that you’re after. Would make good content for ye DIY vlogs as well. So excited for your Halloween content btw, loved last year’s decor and as a proud Slytherin I can’t wait to see this year’s!

You could totally add feet to the metal couldron and paint them black. Also a tip for the graveyard terrarium, I hot glued toothpicks to the bottom of the little head stones so I could poke it into the moss and that helps them stand up straight! So excited to see your place this year!

Harry Potter always was my comfort zone, where I'd go when I felt sad and it's so much bigger that just one woman. The skull with the dragon is so beautiful. When gold thing is "too gold" I just dab some black paint on it - works best with hands, no brush needed! Just do not use too much. Good luck! ^.^

With the snake candle holder you can mix some black paint with some water to thin it out and brush/ dab it on the snake to tone the gold down and make it look a little more antique

You could try and weather the golden snake on the candle holder. Just mix some of the black paint with water and apply with the brush or a sponge. That will make it look old and used.

You could probably DIY that second cauldron to add feet, usually craft stores have bits and bobs that could work! And the gold snake candle holder too-could just paint the snake with some darker gold or brown to make it not so bright. ALSO that Dumbledore print is amazing. o.o SO HAPPY fall/Halloween is here.😭

Not going to speak for Sarah but when I purchase Halloween items I keep them forever. No way does anything I buy end up in the trash after the season. I keep my Halloween stuff out all year round and I have some pieces that I’ve had for at least 15 years.

You can use Modern Masters Metallic Brass paint to tone down the gold of the snake with a sponge. I had to change the color of some gold wings I found at Michael’s.
