The short montage after Hinata's high receive and Sugawara thinking back to how he was the 1st season really gets to me. All he ever wanted to do was spike, nonstop. Now here he is with not only a clean receive, but with the foresight to make it high so that his team can catch their breath and reset properly. That's the true growth of Hinata, how he's not just in love with spiking, he's in love with volleyball.
@Iqnacio. Жыл бұрын
What I love the most about Sugas reaction is that it's also a call back to Iwaizumis monologue in the 2nd Karasuno vs Seijoh match, where after getting 2 insane digs he remembers how he only cared about spikes too as a kid, but he was now glad to have learned the "bliss of receiving an opponents perfect hit". Hinata was in awe of Iwa at that moment and now it has come full circle with him having that exact same experience after those 4 receives (the two from episode 22 and the two from this one), cause he's now feeling that bliss and having that lesson ingrained into him. But of course Hinata being Hinata is completely inmersed in the game so instead of showing him rationalize that and going ooc, Furudate explains it through Suga who is probably one of the two characters who is more aware of Hinatas growth... ( SPOILERS FOR EP25 JUST IN CASE) ...the other one being Tsukishima, who also reflects on what Hinata is going through, but unlike Suga who focuses on Hinata becoming a more mature player, Tsukki focuses on how he can empathize with him, as he realizes that Hinatas love for the game has gone one level deeper after having one of "those moments", like his block against Ushijima.

Also Tsukki diving for the ball??? What an amazing episode and match.

I love how by the end of the episode you got into full-mode volleyball commentator :"D Funnily enough, Furudate (the author) initially actually regretted having this particular rotation for the final point of the match - they wanted the final point to be the twins VS Kageyama&Hinata, but for that to happen both twins had to be up in the front row. Osamu ended up in the back row, but Furudate realized that at this point, the twins would go for the quick no matter what, so that's how their back row quick came into existence. Furudate ended up satisfied with how they "bluffed their way through" and kept everything on brand xD Atsumu admiring how Hinata doesn't believe in the setter but rather that the setter will get the ball to him no matter what is kind of funny, because he seems at least somewhat unaware that this is exactly the dynamic between him and Osamu as well, which Osamu points out, not finding it unusual at all x)

The Speed is a Curse sequence is one of my favorite parts in all of Haikyuu. Ukai noticed immediately from the quick that they are going too fast, but they were all too focused to hear him telling them to slow down. Then Aran throws back his arms for the jump and the edges of the screen begin to fade to black, visually showing the moment that the pace picks up even more as the view for us watching literally gets more narrow. The fading to black continues, slowly reaching the center of the screen only to be dispelled by the light of the sun boy Hinata, giving everyone the opportunity to breathe as everything becomes brighter than ever before. What follows is the intense rally that ends with the words that were followed by Karasuno's defeat in season 1, "This position... This timing... This angle... It's perfect.", which just like in season 1 gets blocked, leading to Inarizaki's loss, reflected in the eyes of their captain as he watches the ball hit the ground from the sidelines. Though the animation after the art style shift hasn't always been as good, I can firmly say that to me this sequence is one of Haikyuu's greatest.

The very first time I watched the scene where Hinata dig the ball high to slow down the pace of the game, I had tears in my eyes (and most times when I rewatched the series) because, to me, that was such a big moment, even bigger than when he made that perfect dig of Aran's spike earlier. As a setter (long ago lol), I understood how significant it was to have time to get myself under the ball and also seize up the opponent and my very own team players' positions before I put out the set. It is definitely not easy to remember to "keep it cool" at such moments. That scene is the most beautiful to me of the whole series.
@jay7tennis Жыл бұрын
I get teary eyed every time I watch this episode in Hinata’s high pass too. For me it showcases the growth of Hinata entirely. Here is the fastest attacker anyone has seen, and yet he is the one who has learned how to slow it down. For me I also can’t help but find the symbolism of taking it easy in life too. We find ourselves caught in the rhythm and the pace of life whether we know it or not, but what really helps is when we “take it easy.” I’ve been wanting to make a video essay on this scene and this character moment for the longest. I just haven’t ever made the time, but maybe… I’ll make time and take it easy myself.

This show is absolutely fantastic, all the growth and pay off for everything. The small things like Bokuto noticing Asahi trying to get the timing of the block for his spike, in the earlier set. My favorite part is such a small tiny foreshadowing moment, the point before last when Kageyama dumps the ball and stares directly at Asumu. When it pans to him and zooms, the green fade and buzz of the "twin call" hits. The same background as when Osamu is "mentally calling for the ball" and Asumu sets it elsewhere. The dump pissed off BOTH the twins! It also just hints that you know the quick is coming for the final point, Osamu is calling for the ball. I hope someone else finds to appreciate this, it blows my mind upon re-watch!

I love the scene where tsukki smirks at Inarizaki's slogan before his last serve. Especially in this season, there is a lot of mental confrontation or description of communication between the players of both teams. Like twins contrasting with Kageyama + Hinata duo, Kita contrasting with Daichi, etc. Tsukki has provided an opportunity to overcome his trauma (related to his brother) through season 3, and in season 4 he now admits to himself that he is as passionate about volleyball as Hinata. Maybe that's why? The reason why he smirks while looking at Inari's slogan is. It feels like this: "Oh yeah, you feel it too? me either." There will be no more a little boy stuck in the past.

One thing I really like about this episode and its call backs to Hinata crashing the training camp, is how it really highlights that, despite his roughness, Washijo is an *excellent* coach. Regardless of his misgivings about Hinata's ability to make up for his height, Washijo knew that if there was anything that would allow Hinata to be able to reach his full potential it would be the defensive skills and game knowledge that he'd pick up as a ball boy. He identified exactly what Hinata needed to learn and gave him an opportunity to learn it, without handing it to him or coddling him.

That's okay Sarah, every character in Haikyuu didn't believe Hinata (other than his pure talent of being athletic somehow) and then they're all proved wrong after that, so basically you're a Haikyuu character too 😂 For me, this feels real because volleyball is not a sport that we can do just because we're good at sports. In most of other sports animes usually the main character got special skill and then just stay with that until the end, with some character development but more of inner development than the sport skills. Or if they had some kind of development arc like ballboy arc, they likely to have the permission at the end after showing their determination but not with Haikyuu, until the end of the camp he didn't get any chance from Washijo sensei 😇 Again, keep in mind that other main characters in Haikyuu have started playing volleyball waaaay before Hinata, even if 3rd years might only have started in high school, I'm not sure about this but still, they already have 2 years experience at least, then we all know Tanaka was already playing volleyball since he was a little kid, as well as Tsukki, Yamaguchi and Kageyama. For Noya I don't know but he was a well known Libero in the middle school so he also probably started before that. On the comparison, Hinata, Lev, Hyakuzawa the "newbies" got the spot for starting members just because of their natural talent such as their heights(for Lev and Hyakuzawa only lol) and their pure athletism. And now they got to learn more. Lev in Nekoma got bunch of receive & blocking trainings, Hinata and Hyakuzawa in that little camp 😌

For the people saying stuff among the lines of "oh see how inarizaki's slogan is wrong ? they need the memories afterall" let me clarify 2 things : 1- Inarizaki's slogan is not about literally forgetting everything they've done in the past, it's about evolving as a player and not dwelling on past losses or getting complacent over past glories. "If we keep *holding* onto yesterday what are we going to be tomorrow ?" explicity tells the tune of what the banner is specifically talking about, so you obviously need memories to do that. 2-Karasuno is actually of the same mentality as inarizaki and Hinata and Kageyama went over this SAME THING in season one with Takeda-sensei, the whole minus tempo thing is more a closure to them both SPECIFICALLY instead of being a "gotcha" moment some people try to put on Inarizaki's back.

Absolutely loved Sarah’s reaction to the tension of the final rally, really showing her game sense chops and emotional radar for that constrictive feeling leading up to Hinata’s “Take it easy” receive ❤

too good!!! what a great episode and a great reaction. Too many great moments and there were some crazy call backs to previous seasons - Asahi's hit was awesome, Hinata slowing it down - that was incredible and so satisfying that the ball boy arc paid off in this way, amazing and then Atsumu saying "this position, this timing, this angle, it's perfect", that was what Kageyama said and lost the match against Seijoh in season 1, now Atsumu's team lost using that freak quick. Great writing by Furudate sensei. Also, as usual, Daichi saves the day in the background at crucial moments, I am so happy that Sarah always remembers to give credit to Daichi. This is definitely one of the best episodes of the season, but out of all the crazy moments, I loved Tsukki's plays in this episode, him giving his best to do a full dive to save the ball and his monologue at the end got me too but highlight for me is him trusting Hinata, I melted when he said "you better be there" to Hinata. Tsukki and hinata camaraderie is amazing

The end of this match is one big narrative payoff after another for Karasuno and it's such impressive writing. I always cry watching it.

I love Azumane's line about how jealous he will be for the next people to receive these sets, but also "sorry for them." When Kageyama sets to you, he not only truly believes in you, but almost feels like a threat as well. "I've put all my trust in you, don't you DARE fail me now." I believe it really showcases how Kageyama developed as a new "King" who instead of demanding ludicrous things, he gives you sets that are easy for you to hit and gives you the most options whilst bringing out the best in you, and so it makes you almost feel scared to now fail this perfect set and trust he's given you. Kageyama truly rebirthed and became "the new King of the court."

Something else that's also interesting to note about this match is if I'm not mistaken this is their first time winning on a defensive play as opposed to an offensive play. And pretty much every single match that they've had they won off and offensive play even if it wasn't a direct point, time they want off of a defensive read they made

Hi Sarah! I'm an avid viewer of your (and Adam's!) reaction videos of Haikyuu! I just wanted to thank you and the community you have founded here for making me enjoy and appreciate Haikyuu more and more. I've rewatched and re-read Haikyuu many times but I'm still blown away by the nuances and the little details that I miss or never thought of when I was watching it by myself. To be honest, I have had little love for S4 before (pls dont hate me lkdsasjdh) because the illustration wasn't just vibing with me (IM SORRY OK I KNOW WHY THE QUALITY SOMEWHAT DIPPED) but watching you and reading the comments made me gain a new perspective, new appreciation for this season, especially the Inarizaki match. I admit I am slow at times and I had a hard time getting Kita as a player and as a person (maybe because I'm different from him) but hearing your thoughts about him and you explaining his way of life/principles made me LOVE and APPRECIATE the player and person that Kita is. And yes, I'm sad that we don't see more of him :( I'm looking forward to watching you and Adam take on S4 together! I'll definitely be waiting!

It's my first comment on your videos. I'm from Brazil and I've been watching your Haikyuu reactions since the beginning and it's very funny re-watch it with someone so high level volleyball player like you. Thank you so much for your reaction and thoughts about this anime. I'm waiting for the next season since 2020 haha :')

I'm so happy watching you react to these episodes because I was reacting the exact same way when i first watched it (and even still to this day!) What really gets me is seeing all the previous rival teams watching their matches intently, rooting for them as the season go on. It's so precious to see!! Add to that the layer of you actually understanding the feeling of a match, the emotions you get while standing on a court, and it makes for such a GREAT watch! Thank you for keeping up with it!! I hope you watch the movie coming out in a couple weeks!

The fact that Atsumu says the exact same thing Kageyama said in S01 when they lost the last point vs Aoba Johsai is simply *chef's kiss*. This is one of the greatest culminating arc and call-back in all of anime in my opinion. I indeed can't belive you didn't cry, cause I'm here crying like a baby!

This is hands down my favourite episode (aka sequence of chapters) from Haikyuu in like- never mind the anime so far- maybe the entire manga (I'm trying so hard not to spoiler here I'll just stop now). But seriously. I. Cry. Every. Time. I have yet to watch this one episode without crying my heart out in the second half. It's unbelievably well written and the very apex to the series: like, it gives new meaning to Season 4 being named "Haikyuu!! To The TOP"
@beybladetunada5697 Жыл бұрын
Fun fact: The sentence "This timing, this position, it's perfect" said by Atsumu here is the same said by Kageyama back on season 1 when they lost. As tsuki mentioned these two know the strength and the weakness of speed

I’ve been watching you react to Haikyuu weekly since S1 E3 looking forward to this exact moment and it finally came!! The first time I saw this twins quick I said “that quick can get blocked!!” since the twins quick was the original S1 version where Kageyama would set it through the contact point, instead of having the set “stop” - and Seijoh blocked that version. Very fitting that Kageyama and Hinata blocked it as well, almost like rejecting their old version of their quick.

So glad this went out in the week of my birthday! Easily a fan favourite episode! The dig from Tsukki, the "delayed" spike from Asahi, Kageyama's setter dump, Tanaka's recycle, Daichi with the clutchest of clutch saves, and MA BOI Hinata telling the team to take it easy... I just couldn't ask for more
@remihenric6218 Жыл бұрын
Tsukki last talk is about last point versus Aoba Josai end of fisrt season. Kageyama said the same thing, "this angle, this timing, its perfect" and block by Aoba Josei, and now Hinata kageyama take revenge. Tsukki said speed is not invincible, they knew that a little better than everyone else. So thank you Oikawa for that ahah

I'm like Sugawara here, I cant help but tear up every time I see this episode. It's the same two episodes ago with Hinata's surprise recieve and Tsuki's block in season 3. Haikyuu is masterfull in connecting plays to important character developement to give it so much meaning. In this episode Hinata didn't just play great, like he already did many times before. This time he was the only one with a clear mind and he took charge for the whole team, when everyone else was locked in tunnel vision, carrying them and this game on his back. He went from epic to legendary here and not because of his attacking skills, but because of the clarity and understanding of the game he developed.

Your reaction of the last play and your discussion at the end is the definite proof that you are the real deal and not faking any of your reactions. We don't usually get to see such a reaction and insight from a Pro, so thanks a lot for that. Definitely didn't regret subscribing to your channel. Also, will you be reading the manga at any point? There are no anime episodes to show the story ahead, and there is a lot left in the actual story. I highly recommend you to read the manga. If not the whole manga due to time constraints, at least the Beach Volleyball arc which happens after this tournament, since you are Beach Volleyball WC. It is a beautiful arc and you will definitely enjoy it.

i'm not much of a commenter bc i'm shy but: i'm watching again with you and i just want to say: i love this anime so much! saying that, i love your reactions and commentary equally, so i hope you keep giving us more volleyball insight after this season is over and of course i'm keeping up with you on your anime channel! but seriously, your volleyball commentary during this anime was amazing, which show us how much of a player you are (as if the medals werent enough)! the pausing just before commentary and the reading of the game uuuhh you're amazing (i already watched you through your volleyball playing, but is so nice to hear things from you more casually). that's it, i hope you have a great day! and if it isnt much of a trouble, i would love to hear from you your favorite things about haikyuu, like, lessons, volleyball, teamates relationships, things like that! ok bye :P

I think the last block of Hinata and Kageyama also looks at Inarizaki's slogan at a different perspective. They have the memory of knowing the speed is tempting that allows them to block twins minus tempo attack.
@amai-w8f Жыл бұрын
That is an incorrect assessment of what happened though.
@krumss Жыл бұрын
@@amai-w8f what do you mean
@amai-w8f Жыл бұрын
@@krumss Inarizaki's slogan is not about literally forgetting everything they've done in the past, it's about evolving as a player and not dwelling on past losses or getting complacent over past glories. "If we keep *holding* onto yesterday what are we going to be tomorrow ?" explicitly tells the tune of what the banner is specifically talking about, so you obviously need memories to do that. 2-Karasuno is actually of the same mentality as inarizaki and Hinata and Kageyama went over this SAME THING in season one with Takeda-sensei, the whole minus tempo thing is more a closure to them both SPECIFICALLY instead of being a "gotcha" moment some people like you try to put on Inarizaki's back.

10:53 In case you forgot that cliff imagery is the same thing used in (if I remember correctly) their match against Aoba Johsai when Oikawa was serving! Love that they used the imagery again instead of a flashback they would pull away from the match.
