they acc say that in Haikyuu but i forget where. But yes, the quote in haikyuu, it goes something like “the best passer/defender wont stand out.” it’s because they’re so good that they’re not doing anything flashy. flashy brings attention, but also can mean you’re playing scrappy vball. Clean vball that doesn’t seem crazy and the defenders/passers who are elite in your words. nvm. you get it

This is incredibly true. People love a player who is diving all over the place and looks spectacular. But it’s those players that you don’t notice brocade they are always in the right place. Honestly, if Daichi wasnt there on this team, Karasuno would have crumbled despite the talented folks in it. He is that one solid lynchpin, that let's his team take risks, try out new things, without worry because he is behind them covering for their mistakes. Hinata and Kageyama can go all out, because they know that if they miss, Daichi will cover for them. Daichi never gets the spotlight, as he is almost always covering the floor. Nishinoya gets his flashy moments, but never Daichi. Its because he is working diligently at his role on the ground, that his teammates can take flight without worry.

4:08 Just wanted to give a small expanation on this line. So obviously Ushiwaka is referring to Ushijima Wakatoshi, captain and ace of the champion team Shiratorizawa. But Ushiwaka is also the name of a famous folk hero in Japan. In an english context, it be abit like if Ushijima's name was Arthur, and everyone referred to him as "Pendragon" or "King Arthur". In the folkstory of Ushiwaka, Benkei was his second in command, the Lancelot to Ushiwaka's Arthur. The Benkei reference comes up again in Season 3 so I wanted to give a quick explanation.

Watching it again with you guys, made me realize how important that third-year captain was to the Jozenji team. Yes, they were the best 4 at the Inter-High, but he was still with them, like a Daichi-like foundation. Possibly, he was the quiet reason they got so far. Now, without him, they lose footing too easily. Apparently, you need various people on the team (and yes, my mind goes straight to a certain character in season 4)

Not sure if anyone pointed this out already, but this is the perfect episode to mention: the name Daichi (written in kanji as 大地) literally means “earth”, connoting “solid ground / the land” (not “dirt”😂). This is truly Daichi’s character, low-key but unwavering, as is shown in this episode. Also, I love the title of this episode, cuz at face value you would think it’s referring to the lesson for Johzenji to learn, but at the same time, it also refers to Daichi, who embodies the Johzenji’s motto and provides a “solid ground” for Karasuno to play! I love Haikyu’s writing! We can always see interesting and meaningful juxtapositions like this.❤ Also the character names are so well designed, always reflecting a thing or two of the characters’ personality. 👏😊

I do think I have the same sentiment as Adam, and when it comes to Jouzenji, I treat them as teenagers having fun. They're definitely not looking at the big picture like Karasuno is (we can attribute that fact to Karasuno having rival teams they're determined to win against). The members seem to all be living in the moment, to get high off the play, feel good about it and if possible, win. My high school team was a bit like that (the not thinking about the future part) so it feels like kindred spirits? 😅😅

They don't have that strong foundation their former captain gave them anymore, so they're finding out what they're lacking. And that'll make them stronger next year. " Freedom is not doing whatever you want whenever you want; true freedom is only experienced by those who know themselves well enough to take pleasure in experimenting ". I bring this phrase up because I believe that in this series, there are two teams that represent different aspects of it (SPOLIER). Johzenji represents freedom just because, without a solid and structured foundation to experiment on. The other part of the phrase, true freedom, I believe is very well represented by Inarizaki. We all saw how Inarizaki ventured to do things no one expected (especially with the Miya twins), but all that freedom had a solid foundation that controlled the limits based on the team's self-awareness (Kita), and with all of that they enjoy the game to the fullest. For me, the true team that embodies freedom in this series is Inarizaki.

I think Jozenji gets a lot of love for how briefly we see them because of that fun-first mentality. This show is what got a looot of people, myself included, to try playing volleyball themselves. I found this show after I was done college, I work solo freelance, and the vast most of my friends are not interested in playing sports. All that made it a little daunting and difficult to try and find a place to play. The one friend I do have that plays volleyball (nearly certain because of Haikyuu as well) took me to a casual neighborhood meet-up as my first game, I had absolutely no prior training, just the basic understanding of the rules and was thrown into a team of people I've never met which ranged from around the same skill to sloppy but serviceable at best. Most of our rallies, which was maybe a third of all the points scored, gave similar vibes of "Do whatever works to keep the ball up/possibly score". Even at the end, every single last-point was treated as the last chance to have some fun for the night, everyone shouting to keep going, going to receive a ball that was likely going out, still playing if it went way out to bounce off the wall of the gym but back towards the court, etc, like everyone was thinking "Please don't let this rally end yet". I don't see myself playing in an actual league, I don't think I will be in some sort of group that is consistent enough to practice as a team or form any sort of cohesion, I think I'll do some solo drills just enough to not be total dead weight whenever I do see a chance to play casually, but those few neighborhood games I've played have moments that will definitely keep volleyball as an orbiting interest. Tangent aside, that sort of environment that Jozenji creates is just another philosophy of the game the author seems to nail the feel and portrail of, fun-first, do what you can to score, but not really a winning gameplan when the going gets tough. Man I love this show.

I feel that I have to much to say! First is first: DAICHI had love! I`m so partial to Suga and Daichi for how they are and their history of two years of stay in a team that was crumbling that... love when they receive the love they deserve. Daichi is so low key, not only for his position, in his role too: is so fundamental because he is allways there, making sure the team has their mental game on top with his comments and I love that, but we allways have it and is difficult to value without being point out. Second what Sarah ask: Well, sorry Adam, "respect" is a strong word for me, I`m more with Sarah in this. I can understand the team, I can seen them with resignation and think "that boys, this is so them" and even see the fun in how they are. But, respect? No, not that much, maybe a little envy... But because I`m not a competitive person and I can see that have fun is fun, the goal is that, not wining. When they say "To have fun you have to have strenght" (Or something like that) I though in mental strenght, not only in... fisical strenght. What Daichi have, by the way. I though about the ability to live something difficult, aknowledge it but not crumbling in anxiety about it and keep going. That is important when they make mistakes or have a difficult rival in front of them. With that strenght, the fear not shadows the experience and that make more easy to feel the fun. I feel I`am forgeting something... O well, if I remember, I`m going to be back... I REMEMBER!!! Very happy for both of you and the people that you meet! It seems that even the two hours of Adam not seeing the movie was good because both of you, and more that 30 persons, has such a good time!!! So much that you are doing it again!!! Have fun you too! OMG!!! I forgot that I forgot another one!!! Suga playing is allways heartwarming, but that a new atacker came from the bench and play so well is SO GOOD to see! And that is all! Have a good week. Pd: Greating to Lydia, in some way, the Daichi of this team.

Sorta feel bad for the manager who has been there a while Old capitan with the wisdom WE LOVE THE MANAGER Hinata aware he looses 1v1 Daichi with the foresight He knows his team well Daichi just figures they would mess up True capitan goes hard You need a rock, especially if you have a more crazy and free team Sarah just wants Adam to cry, lol Winning! I agree, winning not boring Good recive formation Manager respects him, I feel like they would fit well together on the same team And now Johenzi to into it, trying to hard and making too many mistakes Manager bout to smack them, she cares about the team so much I will never stop heaping praise onto the Johenzi manager Manager and Sarah match Coach is new, coach respects manager "She said spank" Like you need to be good enough to keep winning so you can play and win more THEY WANT A SCOLDING SHE SAID SPANK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Noya and Tanaka are so pure, but also kinda not Episode End: Johenzi really gotta figure out what they wanna be, love Adam picked up on that Daichi a legend, he keeps the team together I don't think they are gonna lose, but it might be close I agree being on same picklejinx page was cool Typically the manners are school motto's, not team mottos but I am unsure I love the new coach for Johenzi Video End:

Yeah Adam woulda been on my team in high school 🤣 Just like Jozehnji. Full of dudes who were elite in every other sport, just playing volleyball in the off season for fun, and doing all kinds of weird shit to score. Except we mainly practiced 3 on 3s instead of 2s, (because there weren’t enough bench players to do full games) so we had a bit more coordination. Made tons of huge, stupid mistakes but also some of the most wild scores I’ve seen to this day

And here comes the second time Sarah is just speechless with Adam. First Oikawa, now Johzenji! What next?! Asahi's hair???
@Allen-qs2xr6 ай бұрын
Sarah, Johzenji going for that stupid play in the first set set point is like Asahi going for a jump serve on set point even though he isn't confident. :) That's why we respect that.

I’ve been rewatching the reactions while waiting for the next one 😅 I can’t get enough of you guys! Also, about the banters: While there is a coach on the team, they usually have a specific style of coaching, so the banter really represents the team under that coach’s guidance. We see that with many powerhouse schools, where they have a consistent play style because they have the same coaches for years (see: Nekoma). It’s obvious that a new coach won’t be the same as the last one so that changes the team’s style. This brings the question though: Is it better to have a consistence in play style even when every year new players come and go, or should coaches adapt and find a style better suited for the current players?

I hope that you felt that those 30something brothers and sisters in Haikyuu (a-men) were only a few compared to the total of the community. We are many many more, spread all over the world. So obviously our Toronto people and people who were nearby could attend... BTW how funny it is that Kuroo is "Sarah's guy" but it is Adam who wears his t-shirt? Oh and I got Sarah's tee for my birthday (next sunday) and I ordered two more online because I don't have a Uniqlo store near me. Daichi is our foundation, our pillar... without him the team would crumble down and they know it. And Suga too (thank you Adam), they're the parents of the team indeed, Dadichi and Sugamama

In a game like Volleyball (Or badminton which I play), if you can't actually keep ball in play, it will quickly lose the fun and enjoyment, but it doesn't take much to be able to enjoy it in a simple setting. I agree completely that the important part is having people on a similar level OR with a similar mind set or intention in the game to play with. Even with a similar skill level, different intentions or approaches to the game can ruin the fun.

I feel like another sport that can be realy fun, as long as you're playing with friends or just people of a similar level to your's, is Football/Soccer since the basic rules allow for so much freedom in terms of mobility

Just clicked and am prepared to watch; I'm sure I'll enjoy it as usual!

I believe the idea that you need strength to enjoy a game/sport is more about how on lower levels you have to think about doing stuff correctly and not focusing on strategy and mind games. I heard this happens a lot in fighting games, where people start by learning movement, then combos but the "fun" is actually the vs games where you and the opponent know what can be done and start trying to lure each other into a trap.
