Products I Dislike... But Also Won't Declutter 😅

When I have a product I dislike it's like a game to find how to enjoy it or make it work. Either I beat it and enjoy my victory over the stupid product or the item wins and I get frustrated at which point it's time to part ways. I like the challenge of hate panning with the chance of finding something that works, but if you stop enjoying the progress no one wins

If it goes bad, I declutter. Or if I can give it to someone who is excited to have it. Otherwise I keep everything because once I buy it I feel responsible for it and I hate to waste things. Also, preferences change, and skills improve, so maybe I will like it sometime in the future. I just recently figured out I can use a blue liquid liner as mascara by sticking a spoolie in there- so cool!

I feel the same way! If I don't have someone to pass it on to, I'd rather just keep it. And that's such a cool idea; I'm going to have to try that with my blue liquid liner!!

When quarantine hit, I decided to go through all my products, makeup, skin and hair are, etc, and went on a complete no-buy, unless I truly needed it(like toothpaste, lol!). I kept that no-buy for almost three years, and in that time used up almost everything I had. What I truly could not use, because it had spoiled or was just too terrible, I decluttered and cleaned out for recycling where I could. I now have a very curated collection of makeup and skin/hair/body care, and have decided to stick with just those items. I no longer feel the need to just buy something because it looks cool or a ton of people are talking about it. I feel so much more free and my space is less cluttered. And my bank account is thanking me. But overall, I have paired myself down to the items I truly love and enjoy using daily. And that makes me so much happier.

Yes yes yes! Some KZbinrs are just decluttering mindlessly because it looks good as video content but really, it's is equally wasteful to just toss out things easily. Ppl don't talk enough about settling for all your non favourites, your not so perfect products. It is totally ok to hang on to them, to keep working on it, to use it and just say hey, it's not my favourite, I don't really like it, but I'll just finish it then move on to something else. Seriously, your content is just above the rest. That's why I keep watching your videos.

with loose shadows with annoying packaging, I will usually put them into an empty pot (rn its an old maybelline cream blush pot but you could also use an old moisturizer pot). this way while you need to be careful while opening them, the actual application is easier.

In the depths of quarantine I treated myself to the Chanel Les Beige liquid illuminating fluid and I never liked it 😅😅😅😅😅 It’s pretty worn with minimal makeup or on a bare face, but was too thin and transparent to show up well on a face of foundation. It also weirdly dried matte so like it was sparkly but not *glowy*/lifelike the way the Charlotte Tilbury HFF is. I have been using it as a foundation mixer for TWO AND A HALF YEARS and I am down to about a weeks worth of product and I can’t WAIT to be done with it lolol

I love your videos about getting use out of products that don’t really work for you. I have an expensive blush that is way too pigmented for my skin tone and mixing it with a concealer I don’t love either makes both work for me 😆

I kept some loose powder shadows for awhile before finally decluttering them. I’d always keep them bc they were so pretty even though I didn’t like the packaging. But one year I recorded my uses of all my eyeshadow and I hadn’t reached for them once so I finally let them go! 😅

I bought cream bronzers and blushes because they are the new "in" products. And yeah I hardly used them, but I don't want to declutter because maybe it's user error 😅

I buy the la girl concealer in super light / dark / corrector shades because it's a really good shade adjuster for foundations that are off

I totally understand not wanting to toss eye products, even if they're terrible! I hate my current mascara, which has been clumpy and awful since day 1. but with some finagling it CAN work. normally i don't strictly follow the 3 month rule on mascara, but I'm thinking I may make an exception. Until then though, I just keep using it!

I feel like some things are super easy for me to declutter and others are so hard!! I never know why a product fits into one category or the other lol. Right now I’m having trouble decluttering the Elf Big Mood mascara. It annoys me so much but since I can’t give it to a friend, I feel like I have to use it and can’t just throw it away.

What I do with mascaras that aren't my favorite is use them up on the top lashes only. I find that they don't flake and smudge as badly as I do when I use them under the eyes. Then I use my favorite tubing mascara for the lower lashes. I like to get my money's worth and not waste but I also don't want to hate putting on makeup either LOL

OMG! I hated this mascara too, so bad lol but it dried out and went all crumbly after about a month of use. So I was kind of relieved that I had used it up but also a little annoyed that it was so fast lol

I strongly dislikes that Essence eyeliner. The tip is way too short. The product also would bleed/leak out of the packaging. It was hard for me to use. I do relate to the idea of continuing to keep products I don’t love but can get to work in certain ways.

For the J cat eyeshadow, maybe a simple cheap solution would be storing them in a clean contact lens case so the opening is easier to access. Or even one of those weekly pill boxes if you ever want to try more j cat loose shadows. Or maybe one of those mini Laura Mercier powder containers if you have one/ container is easy to open.

I have a similar matte blue eyeshadow stick from elf which has the same problem of looking dry, although when I add a blue glitter over the top it looks great, or if I just blend the blue into my outer corner it works well and looks amazing - it seems to be when it's on the middle of the lid that it looks dry or cakey - not sure why! x

I recently got the Charlotte Tilbury undereye corrector and it's too drying for me. I couldn't find a website that would ship the Becca undereye corrector to my country but I regret buying this one. I can make it work with a thicker eyecream underneath but it's definitely not a repurchase item for me. 😭

I haven’t used a single concealer in several years. I was coctailing the Shape Tape + Maybelline Fitme until they were both panned and now I’ve been using the Benefit color corrector with the Benefit creaseless concealer and almost panned them both.

I also find it hard to declutter an item and will try to make it work with every fiber of my being! But every once in a while stuff has to go. I've recently decluttered a loose pigment eyeshadow in a copper shade that didn't suit me at all. Also a Milani mascara that made my lashes clump so bad and I got so irritated I spiked it into the trash can! 😅

I declutter items that I think are good but that just no longer interest me or that I never use. I wouldn't declutter an item that I thought was crap to a friend. I would honestly just toss it. I do have 3 Odens Eye palettes that I don't love, but I won't part with yet because there are some unique shimmers to my collection and the multichromes. I could depot it, but I just find I use palettes more than singles. I will usually push through a mascara that I dont love too.

To me it’s all about the pricetag…if it was expensive, I will have to hang on to it. Prime example is Charlotte Tilbury In love with Olivia lipstick and huda beauty rose quarz Palette (which even worse was a christmas present from my boyfriend). Both colors/ color storys don’t suit me but I am still trying to make them work.

Decluttering is pretty easy for me. Products that can’t be shared I will use up but other than that, I don’t hold on to it. I just decluttered my entire beauty collection. It was therapeutic. I’m not minimalist but I now know what I have. I just look at a product and ask “when did I use you last? Did you work ? Do I even like you?” Then act accordingly. I will admit that learning to do this took time and therapy.

I tend to want to force myself to use products that I don’t like because I hate the thought of wasting money. I go through my collection all the time and notice if I haven’t used something in over a year, why am I not reaching for it? Do I really need to keep? Then it has to go. I follow the same rule with clothes.

i declutter fairly frequently because i like having a curated collection but there are things i never reach for but don’t get rid of because what if i find use for them SOMEDAY? or i know the products are decent but might just be difficult to use

I use to have that lipgloss from rimmel in a pinky shimmery shade and the smell was so bad I did declutter it. I hate that baby oil smell and it tasted gross too. I feel the same way about the essence baked highlighter in be my highlight. I think it looks too dark on me but I can use it as a blush/bronzer topper but I don't love it. But I hate to declutter if I can make it work.

For repressing loose shadows, I like to use a couple drops of vegetable glycerin and the tiniest bit of clove oil bc it acts as a preservative! I actually made a reel about this just the other day lol

Every time I want to declutter my shape tape concealer, I go to my order history on Sephora and see that I paid full price for it and then I’m like “oh, yes, you’re gonna stay with me until the end” 😂😂😂

I have so many products like this!! It drives me crazy and anxious honestly because i have bought things hoping for a certain result, then am disappointed. So i try to use in different ways and they still dont work for me. Then its too late to donate or return. So i just keep due to feeling guilty because i dont want to just throw in the garbage and i have spent $ on them. Its such a vicious cycle. I just try now to make better decisions to begin with but i still do it sometimes. Thats why i love your repurposing videos so much (and i dont watch declutters). Thank you for this video too! 🧡👍🧡👍

I had the essence tiny tip waterproof liner and loved it initially but very quickly the very tip stopped dispensing product which ruined it for me as I draw small very thin wings every day. It may have been I went onto my base and the oils and powder mixed with the tip and that caused it to stop working?? I don't know. I only paid £2.80 so it isn't the end of the world but I'm disappointed at how quickly it become unusable (less than two weeks)

It sounds like the Rimmel lip gloss smells just like the Stay Matte powder. To me it smells me almost exactly like Baby Magic baby lotion. (Do they make that anymore? The scent transports me back to the early '80s!)

I also feel responsible for items and struggle to declutter the meh products.... I get annoyed when people like tati all they do is review and then do these massive declutters. All I can think about is how much landfill it is (the stuff that does not get passed on)

I’m glad that you find a way to make these work for you, but I use a very different philosophy. For me, if it isn’t a hard yes, I move on. I don’t like to throw out items, but I do have a few people in my life that I can pass items onto. If the item is something that has less than ideal packaging or not great formula, I have friends preteen/ children that will use it as “play” or “fun” makeup. My real goal is just to buy less so I have less that I declutter.
