Interview: Kevin McGarry from Hallmark Channel's "When Calls the Heart"

The Sarah Scoop Show chatted with actor Kevin McGarry best know for his roles on "Heartland" and as Mountie Nathan Grant on Hallmark's hit series "When Calls the Heart". Love Kevin’s new matured looks. I didn’t think he has much similarity. Looking at the concert with Paul Greene, he seems so much fun. Indeed, whether it’s WCTH or any other movie it takes away a few hours of reality especially in these times. Great actor. Would love to see more of Kevin on the big screen. He’s such a sweetheart. Kevin is the reason I continued watching WCTH. I really enjoy his character Nathan Grant. I love that he is a hero to Allie being a "dad" to her after being abandoned by her father. I love watching all the mountie action especially when he teams up with Bill Avery! There have been so many great story lines already with Nathan, Allie and Elizabeth....I can't wait to see what season 8 brings!

This show is just so sweet. And in a world of so much negativity, hostility etc, it is just refreshing at the purity and simple human emotions and lives. Sometimes I've thought how great it would be to move to Hope Valley! We're desperate to champion something and someone today who is honorable and truthful, honest and trustworthy. I like Nathan's character, but to be honest I'm still not over Jack!

I have a strong feeling Elizabeth will choose Nathan. I don't understand why there would be a build up of this back story, why he is awkward around her, if it wasn't significant. Also, during the audition, they wanted to see if there was chemistry between the two actors. And clearly they did!

me too. There seems to be an unspoken love and understanding between the two characters which hasn't blossomed quite yet but I'm hoping will in season 8. I just watched the season 7 Christmas special and found myself thinkng that the love is there on both sides, they both just need to be brave and confident enough to express it. Nathan so far may not have been vocal with his thoughts and feelings but it's the subtle things that tell the real story. I feel like although Elizabeth is flattered by Lucas, there's an unconscious pull towards Nathan. Anyway, we'll have to wait and see!

@@GreenByTheBeach yes. I feel like if she was going to choose Lucas she would have already done so. He's definitely been more confident and up front, however, she is still not confident he is the one because of her feelings for Nathan. I think that says a lot considering how passive he's been.

@@GreenByTheBeach Something else I remembered in a previous interview with ET, Kevin also talks about what Nathan is willing to give up. I don't know what else Nathan could give up besides his Mountie position. I don't see Elizabeth expecting him to do that, but just that he would be willing would show his love for her, and could be a huge deciding factor. I could be totally wrong, but it's fun to speculate. Lol

@@ellyc87 I've found watching Kevin grow into the role of Nathan fascinating. in the cast interview at the beginning of season 7 he didn't seem very sure about why Elizabeth should choose Nathan. And yes, Chris/Lucas stole the show (In Pascale's words!). But in a just out interview for season 8, as an actor he seems to know exactly why Elizabeth and Nathan are suited and what Nathan needs to do win her - he seems super confident and itching for it to happen!. Like he says in that interview, 'Nathan has done a 180'. The actors have also said before that they don't know the entire season outcomes but go episode by episode so they are waiting to find out too! Although the wait to find out who Elizabeth chooses is hard (!!!), if she does choose Nathan, I feel like the relief and joy will be like when she finally chose Jack over the crook and also Charles. The slow burn can be painful but allows for so much character and actor growth and makes it more special. PS I could be wrong, so don't hold me to it! Just some humble observations :) adiose!

I keep thinking about that interview after the finale where Chris says he wants Lucas's mystery back (that was missing from Season 7). Seems like in Season 8 they are going to be adding mystery to Nathan this season instead (or in addition to).

Great interview, such a nice young man. As for WCTH, I am for Lucas & Elizabeth, but I'd like to see Nathan eventually be with someone that will help him get beyond Elizabeth. Love WCTH & all their characters. Looking forward to Season 9 & more. Also love Kevin in all his Hallmark movies. My favorite is Winter Castle & 2nd, Scavenger Hunt. I watched Kevin's interview with Paul Green..... another great interview. Kayla (Fiona) was with him for a short time & they are a very sweet couple. Don't want Season 8 to end but am really ready for the love triangle to be resolved so all characters can move forward. Whichever way it ends, still glad you joined the WCTH cast.

Lucas was really mean at the end of episode 3 , when she was try to encourage Lucas. He said implied she didn't know much about love and she responded tht cruel. I guess tht situation wiyh his dad and mom made him feel insecure about love. It would be nice to see Nathan fight for Elizabeth instead of not wanting to own a place of his own. Maybe be truthful instead of use Allie as the reason to buy thr property

just saying- I think Allie needs Elizabeth. Elizabeth has always been a wonderful mentor to Allie and would make a great step mom. Elizabeth gets Allie's spunkiness, can foster Allie's love of writing and learning, her thirst for adventure and guide her - in ways that Nathan seems to struggle. Allie reminds me a lot of Elizabeth. The more steady, 'good' guys need a bit of spunk in their lives!

Oh my God, he just made me so much more nervous about the storylines of season 8 :O I don't think I can handle a whole week before seeing more of when calls the heart! Seriously nervous now about what happens. What fires?! If he means fires as in passion then I am all for it, cause I think that's what made Jack a great love for Elizabeth. But if it's fire as in conflict and fight, I don't know if I can handle it. Also, what the heck is he hiding from Elizabeth?! What was he going to say that day in the cabin?! :O My heart can't take it! I will be so disappointed if she chooses Lucas. And I will stop watching the show again.

does anyone know why Nathan didn't like crowds in the Christmas episode of season 7? he agreed with Elizabeth that one reason was because, as a sole parent, it's tricky doing it all, so he keeps it simple. Then he said, 'I guess that's part of it' but then never got a chance to finish his sentence. Lucas was presented as the happy, people person instead. But why the reticence on the part of Nathan? Is it tied up with his backstory which we are yet to find out?

Obviously you have mistaken internet problems with foul language and if you have watched Kevin's other interviews/ performances when he is being himself, you will see he has a very quick mind and is multitalented. He is a ball of light who is capable of bringing such joy and should be greatly appreciated. An articulate person doesn't have trouble expressing himself and those of us who enjoy his talents are very happy he is so open with his fans. The comment regarding his mustache is just cruel and perhaps he's trying out a new look for a future project. Kindness should be our mantra always but especially during these tough times.
