What do u consider heavy?
@fayecummings1946
@fayecummings1946 5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I too do heavier style weight training... by heavy I mean working sets of at least 1.5 times your bodyweight for squats, bodyweight bench, and deadlift sets of at least 1.75 times your bodyweight. These main compound lifts are done at this intensity and other 'accessory' lifts in a hypertrophic range. I do not actually do typical HIIT... but do sets of plyometrics, ab work and play a sport 3xweek. This works for me and keeps me motivated.

My workout routine is kind of like yours. I do 15min of walking/running on the treadmill, then about 15 min of Tabata style Hiit circuits, then I either do legs or arms/back. I do this 3-4 times a week and I've noticed my endurance has improved, more muscle tone and also some fat loss. I have only lost about 4 pounds but I know I'm gaining muscle too. :)

I think there is some misinformation here:p Only training with weights wont make you bulky. Having fat and muscle gives this "bulky look". When you only trained with weights you just had extra fat on you thats why you looked "kinda bulky". Also I believe that if you didnt go through that period when you only lifted weights you wouldnt build that muscle which now you can maintain with hiit. Building muscle while only doing hiit can be done but its hard to build a body with hiit only. Some people can do it because of their genetics
@samibuck
@samibuck 7 жыл бұрын
Ele Bubu I just watched this video because it was in my feed and I totally agree with this comment. You need to lift heavy in order to build muscle. This won't happen just doing bodyweight because I did this for years & had no results, but once I started lifting weights my body transformed like I wanted it to. Also you need to eat the proper amount of carbs/proteins/fat and do the proper amount of cardio to stay lean with muscles. It's a science. 😜
@ele1bubu
@ele1bubu 7 жыл бұрын
Sara Buckley Im glad you agree! You can maintain your muscle with bodyweight exercises but can not build it ;)
@ganeeva8635
@ganeeva8635 7 жыл бұрын
Ele Bubu yeah I agree. Why they said lifting heavy weights and do little reps it's because when u lift very heavy, it'll literally break your muscle and your body needs a lot of energy to build it back, which means your ure using up energy(burning fuels/fats) while REbuilding your muscle. if your using no/little weights, you're actually "pumping" your muscle slowly and that will gives u a bulky look, because you're building it instead of REbuilding it.
@ganeeva8635
@ganeeva8635 7 жыл бұрын
Oh! And to add on. Lifting heavy weights gives you an after burn effect. Your body will continue to work to rebuild that muscle u had destroyed instead of only burning while your working out.

The problem is people follow bloggers/instagrammers/youtubers thinking they'll get that person's body - when they have a totally different body type that may respond completely differently to weights or cardio. Some people who are naturally lower bodyweight, only need weights and very little cardio - others need far more cardio (hiit/whatever you prefer) to achieve the same level of "toned". It's all about figuring out what works for YOU, your lifestyle, your enjoyment, your body type, etc. If you hate it, you won't keep doing it, right? :)

Great info. I think it also depends on your body type. I'm a Mesomorph which means I build muscle from just looking at a can of tuna and it took me a long time to figure that out. I do strength/resistance training using my bodyweight 3 times a week (2 lower body days and 1 upper body day) 2 HIIT workouts a week lasting 20 mins and a cardio session once a week (dance) lasting 40 mins. Every day I walk for about half an hour and this has really helped shape my body i.e. give me ze booty but not leave me looking hench. Somebody who is an Endomorph might need a completely different approach depending on their goals.

I weighed 148 150 before I started doing the blogilates begginer calender which basically focuses on building a stronger core. But I also knew that I had to lose the fat on my body so I also do hiit and pop sugar cardio videos 3-4 times a week. It's a good balance for me. I tend to gain muscle really fast in my arms and legs so I do HIIT cardio after most my workouts to lose the fat but do weights and pillates to build on top of my body. Seems to work so far..

Ugh thank you!! I needed this. When I first got into fitness, I was following girls who had insane physiques and were lifting super heavy and preached that you don't need cardio at all so I started doing that. They all said "you can't get bulky from lifting weights" but I definitely bulked up especially in my thighs! Now I'm starting to incorporate more cardio in my routine and not only do I look better, I FEEL better too. Way more functional.

I have tried SO MANY TIMES to do strength training and cardio in split style and it just was not working for me. I hated feeling like I couldn't move certain parts of my body (legs for example) because they had to recover from the previous workout. I was so confused how to create splits that worked for me. Often I wouldn't work out that day because I wasn't sure what body part I should work and I didn't want to hurt myself. I am so glad that there are people like you to show me different ways to workout. I like using light weights, I love doing total body workouts and working all parts of my body. I love mixing up HIIT and resistance training in the same workout. Yay! Thank you!!

I've found both are crucial (I'm a male). Low intensity cardio (aerobic / zone 3) should be anyone's staple to begin with and maintain I think. More capillaries and energy, better lactate threshold, dopamine and will play directly into the ball court of anything anaerobic. I did an hour cardio to begin with. Then I lowered the cardio to 30 mins in the AM and started including weight training in the PM. At this balance the cardio isn't fatigueing and the weights can still be done at full intensity which really helps fat loss, muscle gain etc dependent on calories. I used to only do anaerobic running (sprints) or not properly pace myself, and didn't improve my Vo2 max. But whatever someone can do, stick with and enjoy is also important. I think once someone feels healthier and more energetic, this will make many previously daunting exercises seem less a chore. (At least for me) it is definitely tricky though trying to fit in LISS/HIIT/Resistance training.

The best way to lose fat and get toned is to have a good balance between 1st cardiosession of at least 30min, preferably 45min, at a running pace at which you can stil talk. and 2nd workouts with the aim towards muscle synthesis. By finding the right balance between these two you can have both the benefits of weight loss and muscle tone. I hope this helped you understand it.

Love this, because I can relate to it so much! I'm a small person naturally, and I used to just do cardio. I had a friend two years ago who got me into weights and my body (legs especially) transformed after time into something I was not looking for nor happy with. I wanted to be small, slim athletic build with strength and muscle definition (like you), and I was getting to be the biggest I had ever been and did not like the look of my muscular legs. I've always felt for me personally that I need a workout like you described, and lately I have been very interested in tabata. It's frustrating when all the guys, and my friend tend to say to just do weights and they don't like or think that lots of cardio is necessary, but they are after a different body type than I am.Thanks for the video!

Im trying to lose weight and tone. What should I do in the gym? I've been jogging five miles Monday through Friday on the treadmill, then I do weight's. I'm so confused. I drink coffee ☕ with sugar free creamer before my workout. When I get home I drink a vegan protein shake and eat a banana. For snacks I eat two or four oranges through out the day. Dinner I eat lots of raw spinach with two vegan protein patties, and dressing. I drink 64 Oz's of water 💦 . What am I doing wrong please help? I'm 5'2 weight 152.2 lbs. I'm trying to get to 120 lbs.

How many times a week do you do those workouts? Do you need a day of rest in between with hiit?

Do both, instead of weight do resistance training. It gives you both, Intermittent training. Try cross traing, work out for an activity like dance...ect

I can easily lift 120lbs with my bare hands and run with the dumbbells for a mile. I'm not "bulky" since gaining all this muscle. My diet is on point (raw ketosis diet) and that plays a vital role. My body is using my excess fat as energy and that fat that was once there has turned into muscle. I still have a curvy body and large breasts, I just look more toned and athletic. I'm also blessed with a natural mesomorphic body. You're definitely more of an ectomorph and that probably plays into why you're so anti-heavy weight. You probably have a harder time gaining muscle from heavy weight and the only way you could is if you increased your food intake. Going lighter and doing more reps is just going to help you retain the muscle that you already have. That is why it is literately taking you so long during an exercise to get to the point of "exhaustion" in your muscles. If anything, you're doing a disservice to yourself by keeping your body stagnate. Low weight/high reps is only good during injuries or pregnancy, if your aim is fat loss. Honestly, I can see in a lot of your IG pictures and on video that you have weak shoulders. You should definitely try farmers carries to improve your posture. Also, You have a slight pelvic tilt that you could work on with weightlifting. When you do higher weight and lighter reps, you're not only re-building muscle BUT that rebuilding of muscle is increasing your metabolism. The more muscle you have on your body, the higher metabolism you will have. That is why lifting heavy is great for fat loss because you're burning more calories at your resting metabolic weight (i.e.: sitting or sleeping).

Seriously you read my mind. I was googling this week on weights vs cardio because I've been having a hard time getting shredded as well and I've been weightlifting for months now!

I would say that depends of the women’s age, when you’re over 32 and want to tone and get rid of cellulite, you can do as much cardio you can but never will get it, I can affirm it because I’ve been jogging for more then 5 years ,I’m tiny but not tone😱

I love this intuitive approach. Imho one of the best HIIT exercises is sprinting up sand dunes - the steeper and longer the better. Literally the most intense thing ever. :P

Omg yes! This is what I've needed to hear! My goal is be lean and tone! And I've been reading so many articles about light to loose weight or just do cardio! So you're recommending doing circuit trading then where it's just main your body weight and stuff! That causes you to keep you heart rate up! Right? Hahaha
