I use Manual for controlled situations but for events where audio keeps changing without any warning AGC is very useful and having agc disable , sends a tone to one of the channels is VERY USEFUL BESIDES You can use a quick release adapter for acces to camera battery

I'm about to give this thing a go. Two questions: 1) Despite the fact that this is an audio product review the video quality is phenomenal. What camera did you use to make this? 2) Could you post a review of how to properly set this up so our audio turns out how it's supposed to when filming?

To be fair instruments should be run through a DI to A) balance the signal AND B) convert the signal to the correct impedance level. Unbalanced instrument cable over a couple of meters picks up all sorts of artifacts (it's basically a giant antenna). Also using that XLR Y adapter will drop the input buy a couple of DB. This means that the sound we here in the review is not accurate to the performance of the actual product.

Can you take a 'Line Input' say from a mixing desk and out put into to a GH2 via 3.5mm converted to 2.5mm (The GH2 seem to only accept Mic Inputs, not Line inputs)

Thanks for your review. I've been using the Saramonic for over a year now with only one complaint: the headphone volume jack doesn't control the volume anymore -- it moves the sound from the left ear to the right ear! Any ideas or suggestions how to fix? And BTW, I shoot with a Canon 6D too, and when I need to change the battery, i simply make sure no cables are in the way and rotate the camera clockwise til the batt door is accessible and open it. Then replace and rotate the camera back into place and make sure it is snug to the mixer.

Thank you very much. Your videos always help. I want to get this for my blackmagic 2k cam and i think this should work for it? I'm just tired syncing audio in separately. Specially wedding audio.

It is a great product but it eats a 9 volt battery very fast when using phantom power. I wish it had an AC adapter.

Hi! I'd like to improve the audio quality of my interviews (without working in post production). Among the Saramonic SR-AX104 (EUR 162), Saramonic SR-PAX2 (EUR 180), Saramonic SR-AX107 (EUR 184), Tascam DR-60D MK2 (EUR 188), which of these do you recommend? Thanks in advance.
@JalantikusID7 жыл бұрын
I recommend go for tascam, we use saramonic, but the peak setting ruined our video.
@lemmonsinmyeyes8 жыл бұрын
Hey, really really great review mate! I am torn between this and the Tascam Dr-60D, you seem to be a knowledgeable guy so what would you say has more options and flexibility? ("better" is all subjective anyway). Thanks hombre !
@onelonedork8 жыл бұрын
+lemmonsinmyeyes I have both of them, the Saramonic has a much better overall preamp and interface, but that is literally all it does. The DR-60D is a pre-amp and field recorder, the preamp is decent, but Saramonic has more gain and is a bit cleaner, however it's a field recorder, if you want that feature it'll beat the Saramonic. If you want a good preamp, Saramonic or Juicedlink (used) are both good options. The Saramonic is larger, but it does sound great for the price.

Whats the difference between the 104 and 106? Great review as always!
@onelonedork9 жыл бұрын
suspiciousactivity01 The 107 has isolation transformers built into the xlr inputs, the 104 does not. Otherwise they are identical.

Hi. do you get two separate audio tracks, when you record with 2 separate mics? I mean is it possible to set it up to get 2 separate tracks of the 2 inputs?
@onelonedork8 жыл бұрын
+Klmi Yes. One track ends up on the left channel and the other on the right channel. In post you simply duplicate the audio track and use fill with left and fill with right effects to isolate them.

excellent review, is this practical for interviews? can I use to XlR mics at once?
@onelonedork9 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Arias As long as you don't mind the size, it's fine for interviews and you can use two XLR mics at the same time.
@BadLaunion9 жыл бұрын
onelonedork I really don't mind the size at the moment, as my project progresses I guess Ill have to go for juicedlink! but I'll do some more research on this as well, thanks for the quick response!

Correction: You say: "they have the XLR *outputs* on the back"....no--they have the XLR *inputs" on the back. Male XLRs are outputs. Female XLRs are inputs. Also, it may be bigger, but is has more features and options than the other options.

+Klay Anderson Sorry about that. Misspoke.

How does this compare to my zoom h5? As far as I see, it is the same price and the zoom h5 has recording mics plus a 3.5 input on top of the two XLRs. Am I missing something?
@onelonedork9 жыл бұрын
The saramonic allows you to record directly into the camera. The h5 is a stand alone field recorder. If you don't have time or a second person to run sound, an xlr audio adapter is a good choice. I often record sound in camera because it saves me time in post. If I have more then 2 mics running I use a field recorder and sync in post. Just depends on your work flow.
@Samtagri9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. BTW, I think that you are awesomely knowledgable and have learned many things from you. Though, the H5 specifically has a line out separate from the headphone jack for monitoring. Can't I Just use this to connect to the camera and record in camera voice?
@onelonedork9 жыл бұрын
Samtagri I haven't had a h5 in my hand, but the line out on the h4n provided sub par audio into the camera. If you get a chance give the h5 a try plugged into your camera and let me know how it sounds.

Major fail for this product is that it has no DC 220-240V adapter option. It chews through 9volt batteries very VERY quickly 👎
@deejayscharton Жыл бұрын
Use rechargeables, you'll get 2x longer running time out of it. A 220v adapter would introduce noise and defeat the purpose.

The idea of this is kind'a stupid. There are more cost effective options that ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING! Why would you want to have a big bulky device like this, and you can't even record to it? There are several recording device options, built in mics, memory & you can record .wav files of high quality.
@onelonedork9 жыл бұрын
Tim Kasey If you need an external field recorder, you should probably buy that. This is an analog phantom power sub mixer for devices that only provide a 3.5mm input. This type of device is handy when you need to run a couple of mics directly into your camera and you don't have another set of hands to run sound. If that's the case, then a unit like this is very nice to have. If you have someone to run an external device and don't mind syncing in post, stick with a Zoom h5 or DR-70d, they are only $50 to $80 more than this unit.
@HybridCamRevolution9 жыл бұрын
+Tim Kasey - I have expensive external recorders, but sometimes I don't want to bother with syncing audio.. A few minutes ago, I shot a quick tutorial in one take, recorded the audio directly to the camera and uploaded it - if you're shooting a quick turnaround project with a camera with noisy preamps, it is really nice to have a clean, inexpensive external preamp.
@TimKaseyMythHealer9 жыл бұрын
Hybrid Camera Revolution Oh, well, OK... I get the preamp & fast turn around issue. I have a camera with crappy preamps, and yes, it is really nice to drag and drop both audio & video with one drag.

In my line of business it’s good to record audio live as opposed to syncing it in afterwards been following these for a while just got the 107 very cheap from eBay and having watched your excellent presentation I’m looking forward to incorporating this into my shoot setup thank you 🙏
