According to my interpretation, the place is desolate and destroyed because the world ended and only they were left alive, so when they are in rooms each on their own they feel alone but then in the end they meet and are happy to be together. The theory/meaning of this mv is that jennie,jisoo and Rosé died, because of abusive relationships and jisoo because of an accident, that's why there's a smashed car next to her. Rosé was beaten up that's why there's a broken statue behind her that's wrapped with something, jennie's partner cheated on her and you can understand it from the writings behind her on her scene and Lisa is on the thin line of death and life that's why she's walking on that narrow place and then playing at hospital. All she wants is that he stays with her till her last breath. If you see on the scenes where there are the 4 of them, they're not happy and it's like they don't see each other, they're waiting for Lisa to be happy again and reunite in heaven. In the last scene you see Lisa gets happy and run to them, that means she died and as you see they hug each other and dance. This song has an special place in our heart.

Actually my favorite Kpop song of 2020 wasn't How You Like That or Pretty Savage, not being much of a ballad person it was surprisingly the last song on THE ALBUM, track 8 You Never Know. -- check out a color coded lyrics video I'd suggest the one by Jaeguchi on this song because one of the other ones was a bit off. That song gets to me. Hope Not off Kill This Love EP is the other ballad by them, sounds like something people would sing along to at a festival with lighters held up and all but I don't think they played it at Coachella since they had not quite an hour set, also really surprised they didn't do the Ddu-du Ddu-du Ddu-du Remix there which would seem like the crowd (I watched the livestream on KZbin both weekends, Coachella is too expensive).

Hey Sara thank you for the reaction and I want to ask you for an apology cause this comment will be way too long hope you don't mind it here its *this next theory it's not mine but I thought of sharing with you since you feel the sadness on this Hope you are ready STAY MV THEORY First of all, the most obvious: the girls are dead. This is made obvious by several signs shown throughout the video, most noticeably the "HEAVEN IS A PLACE WHERE NOTHING EVER HAPPENS" sign but there's also one that says "Dead people's things for sale" However, they're not yet in the after-life. Why do I think this? Well, on one hand, the place they're in is neither horrible nor perfect, it's neither "hell" or "heaven". It's in ruins, but clearly shows that it was once practical and in good use - cars, a Mcdonald, a cinema... Furthermore, there is a sign behind Jennie that says "EXIT ONLY". What does this tell us? There is an entrance to this place: the act of dying. You come here from life. But it is not the final resting place. It is only "a little bit something like" being dead. The girls are in some sort of in between, from which they cannot go back to being alive (that's impossible) hence the EXIT ONLY, but they're not truly in the after life yet, where they can come to rest. But them being dead begs one question: How did they die? Jennie, Rosé and Lisa's death all had something to do with their boyfriend. They're all wearing over sized men's jackets, that don't really fit them, but it's what accompanies them into the after-life. Their boyfriends were important to them, whether positive or negatively. Let's begin with the most obvious one to me: Jennie. Her boyfriend cheated on her, which is shown by the car "I hope she was worth it" and the blue neon sign on the building behind her: "You owe me / Look what happens with a love". In her solo scenes, she walks down a path of alcohol bottles and is surrounded by bubbles. She got drunk, took a bubble bath and killed herself. Hence why her boyfriend "owes" her: She "freed" him of her and his "love" to the other girl killed her. This is also reinforced by the lyrics in the first verse: "So easily, with harsh words / You put scars in my heart [...] I whisper to the mirror, let's slowly let this go / You take me for granted" He threw her love & devotion aside, she is letting him go & in some sense taking revenge by leaving him alone, since he wouldn't stay w/ her Second one: Rosé. She was in an abusive relationship. Notice how the room she is in only has destroyed furniture and even the TV isn't working? She had no contact to the outside world and was imprisoned, which is also shown by the statue that is bound by blue rope The destroyed furniture symbolizes Rosé's body; she was physically abused and, in the end, killed. The boyfriend didn't want to kill her, but she was too "fragile" to survive the injuries he put her through. The odd one of the bunch is Jisoo: She isn't wearing men's clothes. She is however, swinging on a skateboard. She was riding her skateboard and was hit by a car. Notice how she is sitting on the hood of the car? The pink cloud going up from the car behind her symbolizes her life leaving her when she gets in contact (hit) by the car. We'll see the pink symbolizing life immediately again with Lisa So, what about Lisa? The thing is, she isn't yet dead and waiting in the in-between to find the exit like the others are. She is currently dying, but on the bridge between life and death. Lisa is shown in two locations: on the bridge and in a corridor Both are things connecting places and that one uses to get from one point to another. One crosses a bridge, one has to cross a corridor to get to another room. In the first scene, we see pink balloons going up behind Lisa; that's her life leaving her She is lying in a hospital, watching herself die (the pink balloons going up into the sky) because of sickness (notice the colour green that controls all scenes with Lisa and is going up, "chasing" her life). Her boyfriend is at her side, again told to us by the lyrics: "Before the dark night traps me in (before I die) / Don’t leave me / Do you still love me? / If you feel the same, don’t leave today / Don’t ask why it has to be you / Just stay with me" She wants him to stay with her in her last moments so she isnt alone but w/ someone she loves There is one question unsolved: Why are the girls in the in between, why can't they go through the exit into the after-life, where they'll be at peace? The answer is quite simply: they cannot go because they're not together yet. Most of the Stay MV is dominated by Solo Shots of the girls. Of course, one could say "But there are group sequences with them!". Well, they are scenes where they're all in the same frame, but they're not TOGETHER None of them interact with each other, I could draw clear lines showing how they are clearly separated in space and have nothing to do with each other. So while they're technically in the same place (the in-between), they're not in this place together, because Lisa isn't there. This of course changes, when Lisa finally crosses over, leaving the bridge and corridor and joining the girls. Notice how they're immediately intervened, interacting with each other and finally happy? Now they can go on. They people dressed in white are something like angels,ferrymen to take them into the after-life. But BLACKPINK don't pay attention to them; they simply continue to dance with each other & stay in the in-between. Because this is what the song is truly about: They’re asking each other, not a boyfriend, to stay Hope to read what you think of this 😥
