Sarasota Police tour St. Armands and Lido Keys after Hurricane Milton

Our priority is the preservation of life and after a severe weather event like Milton, our officers are quick to respond. This morning, Sarasota Police officers patrolled St. Armands and Lido Keys to check on any residents who remained. Unlike recent storms, water rescues were not necessary.🙏 We are grateful people heeded evacuation orders!
This is a look at conditions on the barrier islands around lunchtime on Thursday.
Access to these islands is not permitted yet, but we are working expeditiously to allow for a safe return.

God bless Florida we got hit hard this year. God bless NC Tennessee these last couple months has devastated our beautiful states for the foreseeable future. But us Americans will come together and overcome this devastation and have a helping hand to pick one another up in our time of need...

I lived in Sarasota for over 40 years. Just this past February, I moved to another state. I would never want to live on Siesta Key, Lido Key or Longboat Key. The potential for storm damage is just too great. I lived downtown (on 7th St.) for 25 years and went through a couple major hurricanes. Nothing like this one though. This video depicts the absolute worst place in Sarasota for a hurricane. Most of the rest of the city on the mainland will have some damage, downed trees and power lines, and will recover more easily, but the damage to Lido Key depicted in this video does not come as a surprise or is it unexpected. It always gets trashed in a storm. This is a very wealthy, upscale area. The people that live there must have more money than brains, or faith in their insurance company. I have neither, so after 40+ years there, I chose to get out! Sorry for your loss.

I used to live in Sarasota. I'm now in New York State. I complain when the snow and ice come and wish I was back in Sarasota. I don't think I will be complaining this year.

If someone was thinking about laving Fla this would be the push out. Florida has become a heat, homelessness hurricane and overdevelopment fiasco. And real estate triple the price of the value. Just go and visit for a few weeks but not to live.
