I watched this all the way through; excellent production, clear and concise. Sarasota Tim has an agenda with his Social Security at 62 videos: he is trying to rationalize what in retrospect was a terrible decision for him, and he gets paid by KZbin for those videos. He is potentially doing a lot of harm to seniors who are considering retiring and who may be uninformed, or who may be taken in my his "aw shucks" country boy personality, or who may have made similar financial mistakes as Sarasota Tim. That may explain his popularity: many Americans are unable to save enough for their retirement and a character like Sarasota Tim makes them feel positive and validated for that. Many many creators have called him out and thank goodness his latest videos on Social Security have been severely marginalized and don't have the wide reach they once did.

Tim’s SS payout is based on his ex-wife’s work history; not his! He’d probably get $800 a month based on his!

Some of us did the math. If Taker Baker told the truth about how many days and hours he worked, his SS checks cannot possibly be drawn from his own earnings (and yes, $800 per month from his w-2s with inflation adjustments ending when he turned 60 would be nearly impossible).

Question for you...Are you confident that investing your SS when taken @ 62 will beat the 6% automatic increases SS gives you each year for waiting while also considering the capital gains tax if/when you take money from that investment? I have decided to wait until 66/10 months for the full payment...but have considered taking it early also and invest the monthly payment, but worried about those issues I mentioned above. Good video...thanks.

That's such a great question. I'm a stats geek and have done so many Monte Carlos on this to take into account sequence of return risk. Personally, I'm highly confident if I just put it in an S&P Index / in addition to a few carefully chosen LEAPs, I can do quite a bit better. Also, I don't mention in the video but my plan includes using a HECM when market returns stink. Dr. Wade Pfau from Princeton convinced me what a great tool a HECM can be in retirement to avoid taxes. Thank you for watching the video and great to make your acquaintance. Cheers!

I always thought retirement meant retiring and not having to go to work. Save up during your working years so that you don’t need a side hustle in retirement. He never mentions that nor having multiple income streams in retirement. And one big thing ST glosses over is that when you retire with Social Security before your FRA, you are seriously limiting your earning ability if you would choose to go back to work. Consider his advice like some random stranger telling his story. Past performance is not an indicator of future success.

Tim claims the average male dies at the age of 73, which is a joke. I'm a 72 year old male and waited until full retirement age (66) to start drawing SS. I took the test you showed and it calculates my life expectancy as 91. I've taken other similar tests and they typically show late 80's. My Dad is still alive at the age of 99. My Mom lived until she was 90.

Fantastic! I hope you live a healthy lifestyle and you will live many high-quality years. My mother‘s neighbor is a retired spinal neurosurgeon. He is in his late 80s. He has surgery to do every repair known to man. (His much-younger wife is not so keen on all these surgeries) Every time my mom sees him walking in the park recovering from something, says, “We have to have repair surgeries. We have many good years ahead of us!“

I have to admit, Sarasota Tim can hook someone into thinking his way of retirement is gold but common sense folk would not follow his path without looking at their own situation and as you said a calculated decision. Tim mocks the retirement community with words like prison job, you could die tomorrow, best life now, etc. But over time he sounds like a salesman. How ST lives on $1700/mo. is beyond me with his gas guzzler, insurance, gadgets and cowboy hats, ao he's relying on his "side hustle" KZbin. He was interesting at first but the content is boring now. Good point on life expectancy. I still want to retire at 62.5-63 based on no debt situations. Unlike ST, I have supplemental income saved up so hopefully it works out.
