Samtaber, also called Deulti, is a small village in West Bengal's Howrah district that is on the bank of the Rupnarayan River. The primary draw of this location is the historic home of renowned Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhayay, who lived there for 12 years, from 1926 to 1938. The home was originally used as a gathering place for liberation warriors, and notable visitors included B.B. Ganguly, C.R. Das, Bagha Jatin, Rashbehari Bose, and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Upon entering the house, guests are able to view the furnishings and possessions that Sarat Chandra formerly owned. Away from the metropolis, one may take in the unadulterated beauty of this settlement. Enjoying the splendour of nature, one can spend some precious time on the Rupnarayan Riverbank. This is not everything. Another highlight in Deulti is a 370-year-old ancient temple tucked away inside the hamlet. Bengal's rich legacy is further demonstrated by the Madan Gopal Jiu temple, which dates back to 1651. Terracotta panels adorn the 45-foot-tall temple, which was constructed in the traditional Bengali Aatchala style. Road travel to Deulti from Kolkata takes about 65 kilometres. Driving there takes about two and a half hours. By train: From Howrah Station, catch a local train headed towards Panskura, and get out at Deulti Station. Toto may be borrowed at the station to see every location in Deulti.
