Ingredients
Toor dal - 1 cup (washed)
Tomatoes- 2 nos
Garlic - 3 nos
Curry leaves
Green chilies- 3 nos
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Water - 2 1/2 cups
Pressure cook it for 4 whistles on medium heat
Sambar powder
Cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Coriander seeds- 1 tbsp + 1 tsp
Dried chillies- 3 nos
Coconut- 1/4 cup
Dry roast it till it turns aromatic
Grind it into fine powder
For tempering
Oil - 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves
Red chilies- 2 nos
Asofoetida - 2 pinch
Shallots - 10 to 15 nos
Cooked dal
Water - 1/2 cup
Tamarind extract- 1/4 cup
Boil it for 5 mins
Add the ground Sambar powder
Salt as required
Jaggery - 1 tsp
Boil it for 2 mins on medium heat
Coriander leaves
Add a tsp of Ghee for extra flavor
Have this Sambar along with rice, Idli, dosa , etc.
