With the limited, non-expandable storage, it would have been really nice if they had made it so that you can just insert a usb-c thumb drive into the action pod and move all files over to the USB drive. As it is right now, if I'm on the go, I have to transfer to my phone, and then from my phone to a usb drive and then from the usb drive to my PC to edit later. I sometimes just go from camera to phone to PC as well, but still, being able to go from camera to usb drive would be perfect.

Thank you for this, extremely helpful as I've just got my Go 3. After playing around with it, it seems in normal video mode (even outside in the day) the lighting is extremely poor on the footage compared to shooting in free-frame, is there any reason why this would be?

You possibly nudged the EV value away from Zero by mistake. It's worth checking. When you have the screen on, swipe left from the right side of the screen. You'll see a setting on the left edge of the screen. Check this is set to zero. Also check you have set exposure to Auto, and not manual.

Been using my go 3 for a couple of weeks now mostly for running. I like the free frame mode but the image stabilization doesn't seem quite as good in free frame as using high stabilization in normal video mode. Also noticed the stabilization struggles with bright and dark bits in the same shot. It tends to jump a bit in free Frame mode when there are bright and dark areas. Love the tips by the way .

Thanks! And yes, most cameras will struggle going from rapid light to dark in auto-exposure. You might want to try manual exposure mode if you know that's what's going to happen.

Personally - I think the photos are good, but capture is a little slow. They go a good job of HDR. But, this wouldn't replace my phone for photos. It's more if I want I different angle or feel, and if my iPhone is unavailable, e.g battery has run out.

Thanks - Have you seen my parkrun video with the Go 3 in Tokyo? It's pretty recent. i think it's personal preference. Linear might be good for sections in a crowded field of runners, but I pretty much prefer Ultraview most of the time

@DeezNtz2000 it’s rendered in 4K so check your settings. Actual output from Go 3 was 2.7k. Not sure about recharge time. You could do expect it to get a reasonable charge from 10-15 in the action pod. But it wouldn’t be full. But I’m just guessing. Recording in lower res would save battery but not sure by how much

It does seem to be (a) a little slow to respond and (b) somewhat over-aggressive in response. It's not an easy problem to solve apart from trying a manual fixed exposure setting.

Just found out that you now only have two options for quick preset for single/double click on camera compared from GO2. Timelaps, interval, slowmo etc are only available with action pod. Also the fixed clip lenght has been removed. Strange that none of the 1mill reviews has mentioned this...😢

Hi, have you got any tips for prolonging the battery life of the pod ? I have had mine for 6 months and the initial 35 minutes I was getting is now down to 28 . I shoot mainly in free frame mode. Tried dropped to 25fps but that hasn't made any difference. I mainly use it to film 5k parkruns. So if the battery life gets any worse I won't get round in time. I know, I should run faster 😂

Faster! Have you checked bitrate in settings? Also check how long screen is set on for before it goes dark if not being used

@@TheTechPacker Video bitrate was set to high so I have put it to standard. Maybe I accidentally changed that at some point. One of the few annoying things about the go3 is that it is so easy to accidentally press stuff and change things without knowing. Even if I lock the screen it's so easy to unlock and I have accidentally changed stuff on many occasions. Hope the bit rate change helps. Thanks.

Yes - I find that if there is anything between the camera and the Action Pod, the signal can go - especially if it's your body between the camera and the action pod, and maybe a phone in your pocket interfering with bluetooth perhaps?

I took a bunch of videos while in Japan and they all show an MP4 format when Itransfer the video to either my phone or to the computer with the Insta360 program. I don’t understand why it’s not giving me the Insta360 file format that allows me to do a lot of editing. I’m not sure why they are all saving us MP4. Might you have some suggestion? Hi :) If you shoot in 2.7K - that is straight mp4 video. Of you want more flexibility, you need to shoot in Freeframe. Sorry if that’s news you don’t want to hear…

I’m trying to find the Insta360 file format file that allows you to do all the editing in the actual program. I don’t even see 2.7k as an option in free frame. I see 1440p and 1080p. 2.7K files with have the mp4 suffix. If you are editing vis the app, you can export from there - there's no need to go into files. If editing in studio, open the entire batch of files you are interested in, and Studio should just sort them out for you to edit. Just got one of these things today. Took the camera out on a run on the pendant mount to see how long it would last. After exactly 30mins (in free frame mode) it stopped recording then started again. Do you know if there is a limit to the length of the video in free frame mode? Seems strange that it stopped on exactly 30mins. Think I will try the clip mount next time. Pendant is a bit bouncy for running.

Yes, it records in 30 mins segments for some reason. No idea why. Does it in 2.7K too, and for other Insta360 cameras. Strange but true.

Long question - sorry: 99% of my use is on the hat clip to film stupid stuff while I am playing with my son. I don't want to spend time changing the aspect ratio every time I export my videos unless it allows me to grab a larger recording area. What should I use? I don't care much about stability, horizon leveling, or resolution. I just want to record the widest and tallest all the time. Sometimes my son is right in front of me so I will only see his head. Other time he running farther away from me and I only see his legs. Other times the runs to the sides or might want to record the surroundings. Is there a way to default record to 1:1 on regular video? Is 1:1 the setting that captures the most?

Record in Freeframe video at 50fps. Then, you can change the field of view in post-processing to either Ultra wide or ActionView which will be the best options for you. You can view at 1:1 in post of 16:9 or 9:16 - all achievable via the Insta360 app. Hope that helps!

Hi - I think that's something you'll need to ask Insta360 about. As i understand it, the frame rates of the timeline and the source clip will have a slight difference of one frame every 33 seconds. This can cause either a skipped or duplicated frame, depending on whether the timeline is faster or slower than the source clip. However, in most cases, this shouldn't be noticeable at all, as it only happens 2% of the time.

I chatted with Insta360 and they agreed that it's confusing to call the in-camera stabilization "Flowstate" when it's not. See Q2 where it mentions that Flowstate is superior. "Q2 What is the difference between the Video and FreeFrame Video modes? Video mode applies in-camera stabilization. Video mode files are saved as VIDxxx.mp4 and can be viewed directly on any media player. FreeFrame Video mode offers greater editing flexibility by applying our superior FlowState Stabilization, horizon leveling, and the option to adjust the aspect ratio."

Why do you need anything other than auto? You can manually set shutter speed and ISO, but it depends on your situation

@@yadom_ It is a small sensor, and that is pretty normal for a camera with a small sensor, I'm afraid. You can select manual mode, slow shutter speed down a bit, raise ISO (but not too much or will just be noisy), or your best bet is to get a better lighting set-up, or more to a lighter area.
