The reason cube2 is squared that is a theoretical tesseract (a higher dimension cube i.e. cube²) which is why all the cubes are the same color. They are the same room, just at different points in time. It's a neat concept but execution was awful

Regarding the unlimited possibilities for sequels exploring the core concept of the original film; it occurs to me that a fun premise would be for each room to contain a puzzle to be solved. It would be a bit like a feature length version of the scenes in Indiana Jones movies, where Indy has to solve a puzzle in order to avoid being killed by a trap.

I am disappointed they didn’t call the sequel Cube Squared, but if they did that, they wouldn’t have been able to call it Hypercube, which would have been worse.
@fusionspace175
@fusionspace175 Жыл бұрын
The irony that you would tell the writers of Cube 2: Hypercube "keep it simple, stupid", when you literally did not understand the movie because of how stupid you apparently are, is astonishing. Those weren't "spikes", nor ice crystals. If you paid attention and understood the first thing about what the Hypercube is, you'd know those were fields of space where time ran at a radically different speed. The couple aging to death ought to have showed you that time is a danger here. Those fields, when you put a body part into them, explode the part that all the blood is now rushing into at super speed. I knew that's what happened right away the first time I saw it, because I had read about a similar effect in science fiction before, and I have an active imagination. Hypercube is the absolute peak of the Cube franchise, but it is a horror movie that apparently only scares you if you truly have the wit to comprehend it. The crowning horror is when you see the nearly infinite structure at last, and realize that you never had a chance to figure out the puzzle. It subverts every expectation created by the first movie and surpasses its every goal, actually having a purpose and a meaning this time. It's both an experimental artificial reality they've created to study, and a convenient way to disappear their enemies. The true lasting horror that stays with me is in the tagline, a quote from the old woman you couldn't stand: "Some things were never meant to exist." That's why they shoot the sole escapee and survivor after recovering the recording unit. I think it's because they don't know what might have come back from unreality with her, and won't take that chance. I truly love Hypercube, and I think it really is necessary to have a grasp of wider science fiction heading into it to really appreciate it. I mean, how often do you get to see people get killed with quantum physics?

@casanovafunkenstein5090
@casanovafunkenstein5090 Жыл бұрын
I do like it, but the highlights of the film are where it is very clearly copying ideas from Brazil by Terry Gilliam. I feel like the idea is quite solid, but it's unfortunately a bit inconsistent in its execution and it could honestly have been a much better film if they'd focused more on the guys in the control room and cut down the amount of focus on the characters inside the cube. I also think that having the ending mirror the introduction of the autistic character from the first film is a bit tasteless. I understand what they were going for, but a non verbal autistic person is not the same as a neurotypical person after a lobotomy.
@barnabykane4515
@barnabykane4515 Жыл бұрын
@@casanovafunkenstein5090 Absolutely. That part just flat-out sucks and it felt completely unnecessary. I will say I kinda liked the villainous cartoon villain in Cube Zero. Like it was high camp and I had fun with him. I also appreciated some of the gore effects in this one after the CGI mess that was Hypercube.

Look, maybe it's not a great movie, but I just have a soft spot for Hypercube. It's so wild and crazy and memorable. I am a sucker for sci fi time travel shit, and that movie was all that. Regarding the acting, I can't say how bad it was, because I only ever watched it dubbed into German, which probably elevated the performances, since Germany has pretty good voice actors. But yeah, I just think this one was really memorable to me, because of the crazy shit that happens in it. The third one I remember seeing, but I forgot everything about it, except for the twist at the end.
@Right_Said_Brett

Agreed. It saddened me a fair bit to hear the trio ragging on the second movie so much, to the extent that Adam said that giving the movie 1/10 was being generous. I mean, come on! It's not the worst movie ever made. It's a decent and entertaining bit of sci-fi gubbins, in my opinion.
