Pretty bizarre that they chose to have Leo specify that he is a tuatara of all things because A) it’s pretty much impossible to get your hands on one anywhere outside of New Zealand and B) it’s the one “lizard” in the world that is mildly well known because of the fact that it isn’t a lizard lol. Tuatara are notable for having unusually long lives though, so my guess is that one of the writers Googled “longest living lizard” and shitty Google gave them that as the first result.

1:41:31 - 1:43:07 I really appreciate this rant from Adum. Ever since starting at film school, I often get insecure when I watch a movie that seems to be universally considered a masterpiece and I just don't like it or get much from it (Aguirre being one of those for me). I feel like I must be missing something and am just not smart or "cine literate" enough to appreciate it. I'm getting better at not having those thoughts but it's so true that there's often this weird sense in film circles of like a "correct" opinion to have which determines whether you have "good taste" or not, and that certain films are considered like canonically and objectively the greatest of all time so everyone has to like them. It's so dumb and completely misses the point of art.

I love Fitzcaraldo, but I doubt that Adum will like it if he didn't like Aguirre. It is kind of similar, just bigger and more extreme in every way. More jungle craziness, more cinematographic achievement and history being made, more Klaus Kinsky, BUT also more people just staring into the landscape, even less characters and less plot. After some dialogue setting everything up in the first 10-20 minutes or so, the whole movie is basically just one crazy lunatic whipping a bunch of Indios into pulling a ship over a mountain. It is still worth watching, I would say, even for someone who doesn't like that as much as I do, just to prepare yourself for watching those 2 documentaries, because they are absolutely worth it, no matter whether you like the movies.

As someone who used to watch sunnyV2, i can say a lot of the draw is background noise, you don't sit and actually view his video, you do something in the background while it plays so you aren't even giving it your full thought and attention to notice the flaws unless they really, really stand out. It was only when i saw their Mr. Beast video, where right from the title i was like "The hell?" and as i listened i was just baffled how someone could be this disconnected from reality that they were talking about someones' friend becoming trans being "Bad for business" That's where i, like many others just stopped and found other stuff to watch. When you run out of stuff to listen to you just start going for videos with a subject that sound interesting for the sake of background noise, that's how i ended up even watching some Illuminaughty videos, though i never subscribed to them because like 70% of subjects didn't interest me.

I have to disagree with Adam on the Boogie style videos. I don't care about the Boogie-saga, that type of "content" is what made KZbin. You know, the whole 'Broadcast Yourself' slogan that they eventually took out. It's why I think channels like Jenny Nicholson's or ReviewBrah's thrive so much when they pop up, because, even if it's 'basic' and 'just talking to a camera', I feel that's kinda the point. Documentaries, talk shows, TV Shows... there's plenty of them as is and to see people just forsake that style to just try and be uber professional with expensive microphones, camera and ultra-edited videos feels hollow in contrast. It's fine if people wanna do that, there's a place for everything, but it's just odd to see that looked down upon. And it kinda feels somewhat hypocritical when I see some streamers try to essentially circle back around to just doing gameshows and variety daytime TV shows. Although it makes sense, kinda, seeing as KZbinrs look down on the newer platforms like Vine/TikTok with the same 'get of my lawn' energy the mainstream used to look down at KZbinrs when they started and blamed them of being bad influences on a generation. Apologies for the pointless rambling.
