Drinking electrolytes let you get Hydrated quicker, so for example instead of drinking 2 glasses of water you can drink 1 glass of electrolyte-rich solution( ratio will depend on many factors such as weight, diet, metabolism, etc..). You still have to drink water later because your blood is gonna be pretty rich in glucose and minerals, salts. It's very useful when doing long workouts because you don't have to bloat yourself with water while running, it is also useful for people that are sick and have a hard time getting stuff down. But, again it's not a replacement for water and should never be taken that way in the long term. These drinks are Also extremely acidic, and bad for your teeth, on top of having a lot of sugar so there is also that to keep in mind.
