The bit that gets me with Dream is if you look back at his career, almost nothing he did that made him grow was HIM. 80% of the content in his videos is his friends, and he barely posted, barely streamed, etc. On the DreamSMP - HIS INSANELY FAMOUS SERVER - He was barely ever on except for when it was important, and he was pumping himself up in a scripted event. Even in that initial PewDiePie seed video, I'm fairly sure he had a team of people working to find the seed, and IIRC he wasn't the one to find it. His whole following essentially was amassed from the viral following and growth of everyone around him and a single viral video series (with several of those people in it) - tons of remains of SMPEarth, as well as other previous events that came before. The only things Dream really did alone to get viral was cheat and get into controversies - the rest was largely other people. DSMP got big after people like Wilbur posted on it and started the shenanigans. Dream was not the driving force, he was the beneficiary, and from the sounds of it - behind the scenes he was an egotistical problem when it came to plotting stuff out. Then like... what has he done of note since dsmp and manhunt? The mask song where he rushed and underpaid animators that didn't know how to animate in that style? He's just coasted since then and been a menace online. Zero real value or content, he's only relevant because of the simp/hate cycle that has developed around him.

While I don't see much wrong with being unironically unoriginal in your work, or taking someone's else's idea and making it your own with your spin, he doesn't even do that and doubles down pretending he is. Hell, he doesn't do any of the coding for his videos, he confirmed a long ways back he actually reached out to George because apparently George knows how to code and that's how they became friends. George almost didn't even reply to him either. Which is crazy to me. We could have been in a time line without the DSMP all because George never replied to Dream. I'm glad we got to have DSMP ever exist, it has brought many good great memories and was a great brain itcher for while it lasted and even freshly after. But dream only owned it in name only and without Wilbur, who I may have my critiques on his earlier works as he really did set a lot of characterization for most of the popular cast aka he screwed over Tubbo big time, but seriously without Wilbur Dream SMP wouldn't be where it was today and may have never even been played on long term.

@@enderwalkgang oh absolutely. Without Wilbur and Tommy, Tubbo, Fundy, all the names people are aware of, DSMP would have been a tiny drop in the bucket that nobody heard about. Dream also grew massively because of people like Jshlatt and Technoblade, and while you could argue they grew as well, they were both big beforehand and clearly more than pulled their weight in terms of the value they brought to the table. You can tell based on all the other servers they interacted with, people like Shlatt end up carrying content everywhere they go. Meanwhile, I genuinely barely remember a single clip with dream in it (that wasn't Wilbur carrying a story moment, or a scene with a dozen people) It's so strange to think about how he's relevant at the moment, because it's entirely Twitter drama. Aside from the face reveal, Dream hasn't really... Done much? In quite a while. He's just eternally relevant because of the ongoing war between stans and haters, and his refusal to stay out of controversy lmao I don't even mean this as a critique, or "dream bad", it's just perplexing how long he's been relevant off of viral Minecraft challenges he did a couple years ago (the only real content he himself made - though of course his videos still had 3-4 other people carrying the dialogue.)

I saw Dream at a grocery store in Vegas a few months ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

The reason why a lot of haters are doubling down on dream is that they smell blood on the water. I think if someone was genuinely blameless, haters wouldnt have any ammunition against that that'll stick. The issue with dream is that he has proven himself to he absolutely deceptive. When he was outed for cheating on his speedrun, he essentially riled his followers knowing they'll start attacking the mods who investigated him, while insisting he never cheated on his speedrun, only to reveal 6 months later that he "accidentally" cheated, which proves the mods were right all along.

I think that one of the reasons that people are upset with pokimane over the cookies is that she is trying to present it as a small business that she is genuinely involved in and passionate about, when in reality this could be further from the truth. I took a look at the website for myna cookies and pokimane's face is plastered all over the place even being the first thing you see on the homepage, and to me it feels like they are really pushing the idea that this whole cookie thing is something that she is personally involved in. However this just isn't true. Pokimane is busy doing whatever she does and probably has little to no involvement with major business decisions. From an outside perspective it could very easily seem that the entire cookie business is just a cheap and easy cash grab.

I mean, I take issue with how the cookies were advertised and peddled as entirely unique when, at most, the ingredients list was _slightly modified_ at best. That being said, how do you really expect someone to be ‘personally involved’ in a venture like this? Like, would it only be acceptable if she baked them herself, or worked the conveyor belt line that they likely sat on? Investing in something and making non-critical business decisions that you usually trust to more experienced individuals is pretty par for the course.

19:29 i think the WHOLE THING started with her fans not liking how expensive it was, and SOME people jumped on that to make a drama out of it? With the whole "white labeling" thing, and all. But most of all, the whole drama is about how she lied and tried to manipulate her fans, and how she reacted afterwards. The lies weren't THAT bad, but also not that good, saying ehe worked for TWO or THREE years to prefect the cookies, when they're not that different to the original, and people found out that it wasn't even something that she, or the company took ANY time working on, it was something the company ALREADY HAD, they just added something to it and rebranded it, so saying that SHE worked on it for YEARS, is kinda bad. Also, saying that the SMALL amount of vitamin D in it would help her fans, and calling it "gamer cookies" with that VARY SMALL amount, is kinda stupid. Which are stuff that can be criticised, the price is MEH, it's OBVIOUSLY more expensive than the original, it's being sold through a CONTENT CREATOR, they want to first, cash on the name, so obviously it's gonna be more expensive. And secondly, they're gonna pay pokemane too, so obviously they're gonna make it a little nore expensive to account for that. I don't see much of a problem with that, and i agree that ANY criticism on the price is stupid and unwarranted.

The Pokimane thing might be pointless, but that doesn't take away you can call her out for having overpriced cookies, and her responding to that criticism by calling someone a broke boy is very telling of the kind of person she really is. That's what I take away from it. It's not a scam, no one is forced to buy them, but it's still overpriced garbage no matter what she says.

And if some people think it's overpriced trash, they can call it overpriced trash. It's not boring, it's not soy, it's just what it is: people calling her cookies overpriced. It's also not about us, I, for example, wouldn't be putting up the façade of some squeaky clean, advertiser friendly person and I doubt you would. She, on the other hand does, so, when the mask slips, it's noteworthy. So, should you care? No. Should anyone care? Not necessarily. Can someone care? Yes. Is it soy to care? No. Provided you don't make it out to be the end of the world. Which no one in her chat (that I can tell from clips) was doing. They called her cookies overpriced. It's as simple as that. And they are. She's the one who blew it out of proportions despite the critique being legitimate. She could have just said: well, that's the price we put on them. And that would be that. Instead, she decided to be a big baby about it and, well, now she's in hot water with keyboard warriors. You reap what you sow.

If anything, that just makes it worse. This is akin to "whataboutism" and is useless. 2: As I said in my original comment though, a lot of people are spinning the narative that the people complaining about the price were babies. They weren't. People now making this out to be the world's worst event this month are certainly babies, but that's a result of her reaction and that wasn't what was happening at first.
