What are NFT's+One small mistake&Why KZbin is an enabler? -Non-Fungible token is a unit of data stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. In simple words just like someone who buys art due to perceived valued. Now actually for the first time ever enthusiasts and art collectors can actually purchase the originaldigital file as a collection. Eg: recently a Tamil singer sold one of his songs as NFT for 1.5 crores. This opens a whole new stream of optionalities for Saregama. Let's see how :) in case if NFT trend catches on -Shemaroo has a content library of more than 3000+ movies. Movie has lower repeat use vs Music. Saregama said in recent concall that they are also a digital marketing company and are using analytics to market and sell songs. This model can maybe replicated directly by streaming companies and can halt the new songs growth for these companies.

@@simratpreetsingh1396 Good point :) This is where entry barriers come in to play. Since streaming industry is fragmented, none of them have the bargaining power with content suppliers. What if I (Label) take away the support of old catalogue from the streaming company? It will take decades for someone to replicate what T-series or Saregama has done. NFT is an optinoality- Saregama can use its retro library to sell digital files to collectors&on top of it might get a royalty sharing arrangement. As Labels are the ones which help in enforcing IP

Also, I presume that singers/composers can't directly sell their original files to buyers without breaching contract with the labels, because they are no longer sole owners (probably not even partial owners, in many cases) of the music they created. Illegally selling it would devalue the original file's worth, since buyers in this segment would value authenticity. However that cannot be easily generalised. Yet, it wouldn't also hurt saregama's opportunity costs much, since it'll be one off cases

Very good analysis. Thank you for the same. As you said you were more keen on analysing Saregama. However, Shemaroo got a not so fair treatment in the analysis ;). Shemaroo has 20K catalogues as per your video vs 29K of Tips. But the valuation difference broadly is 4X (even without assigning value to movie catalogue). Shemaroo has higher number of subcribers vs Saregama on youtube and is ranked ahead of Saregama on youtube. Diworsification of Saregama has been accepted but diworsification of shemaroo (with investment of just 1 cr in restaurant business has not been accepted by markets). Just sharing some thoughts based on my analysis and your video. Thanks once again for sharing your hard work for us to learn.

Good content as usual. Had a few queries: 1. Couldn't understand what "real" value these music label companies add. Feel like they're just middlemen using their industry connections to buy content. Which begs the question - what's stopping the much bigger streaming behemoths moving upstream to directly strike licensing deals with production houses and keep the entire pie for themselves? 2. Are these long-term licenses exclusive or can multiple labels buy them? Exclusive contracts don't make much sense from production house POV, as these are simply distribution channels. Think Samsung or Oneplus in smartphones or restaurants in food delivery, they usually avoid going for exclusive contracts as they don't want to limit their distribution to a few channels. IMO, content creators who leverage creativity and streaming players who leverage technology should be players cornering lion's share of value chain 3. What could be the likely impact of NFTs - will content creators directly want to digitize and sell content to streaming players via NFTs, again cutting out music labels or could labels also insert themselves as middlemen here too?

What if streaming companies move into this dimension and the label companies withdraw the old catalogue rights from these streaming cos? Shooting yourself in the foot if you compete with them Exclusive long term licences- some of the artists like Diljit who were launched by streaming cos. To expand distribution they will have to tie up with Labeling cos, no other choice. Just check where Guru Randhawa has reached after the tie up with T-series NFT-answered in the pinned comment to simrat :) Conc: an extremely high entry barrier place. Someone will have to spend a lot of money without making any returns for years+The older catalogue has all of a sudden become valuable in a world where distribution (streaming cos) has just exploded and piracy is reducing
