👍 Nice vintage tent for truck camping. Interesting to see the genesis of ideas as tent designs progressed throughout the 20th Century. Thank you for sharing.

Back in the day, it would have been considered a good back country tent, especially in the smaller two-man version. Thanks for watching!

This is sure a legit vintage tent design. I saw a few new ones along trails and in campgrounds in the 1970s and I was impressed by the geometry.

They weren't the best backpacking tent of the time--but the Timberline was, at least for mainstream backpackers. I saw a few myself and always cursed when I got under my WW2 surplus pup tent instead.

Still have my 2-person nylon Eureka DrawTite from the 1970s. I got it on a happy Christmas day when just a little kid. 56 years old today, and still have it!!! Also, I have my vintage 2-person Timberline in great shape --- as well as a 4-person that I lived in apprentice guiding summer of '88 in Wrangle-Saint Elias. Good Tents & Great Times!!!

Eureka likely could have stayed in business had they brought the price of the Timberline down and gotten into the Hammock Camping market, IMO. Its a great tent, sturdy, easy to use, and ,ight enough for mainstream backpackers in the two-man version. Luckily, there's so many out there that its going to be a while before anything other than the earliest become expensive collector's items. Thanks for watching!

Eureka was located in my hometown bought plenty of tents from them. Bought a 4-man Draw Tite about 1978 or 79 - still have it and was last used two summers ago. For the record yours doesn't look like a 4-man to me - there are 2 poles on each side in the front to support the front of the tent. I am 6'4" and can barely reach them to hook the front of the tent on. Seemed easier when I was young.

It was a shocking day to try to go to the factory store to find it closed. I live about and hour and half drive away.

I figured it might be the two man, but its a pretty ding dang big two man tent---which is a good thing.

My vintage 2-person nylon DrawTite I have had since '70s as a little kid was indeed my first real expedition quality 4-season tent here in Alaska. Timberline Tents plus adding 2 vestibule could shoulder seasons with the exception of high wind exposure. That said, not as robust as DrawTite. The most rugged, reliable outfitter expedition worthy 4-season tent from Eureka to come along in the early 1980s was the Overlander Expedition. Still have an original! It became famously better known as Barney's Bomshelter. These were sewn by Eureka military division. CANADA version was called SEP tent. Today, lineage is traced to what is called Arctic Oven in 8' x 8' 10' x 10' and so on made here in Alaska.

that's a pretty cool tent Sarge, and yea it has a lot of room in it. I do so love these videos since I never knew this stuff existed. I guess that's why it took till my late 50s to start being interested in the history. Dwayne

The 1950s and early 60s stuff are things of which I was vaguely aware, but we wuz po folks, so all we were really familiar with was Army Surplus. Later on when I started going out on my own I started finding out about it, but wuz still po folks. Today, I'm still po folks but not so po I can't afford the stuff I wanted when I was young.

The best reproduction for a pre-WW1 campaign hat is made by Prairie Flower Leather, that's where mine comes from. The tent he had was likely the same as the WW1 tent that What Price Glory sells. Thanks for watching!

Scouts really gave Eureka the boost they needed to stay in the civilian camping gear market, but that was because Blanchard knew what folks needed and designed tents that could be used by both regular consumers and Expedition level backcountry folk. Thanks for watching!

I think you need to check out the Moss tent designs of tents,Moss tents founded in 1975 in Camden, Maine.I believe almost all free standing tents came from these designs.

I have. They're gorgeous. Bill Moss said he wasn't a tent designer. He calls himself a "fabric artist" and his tents display that ethos. They're just a bit spendy for me. Last one I saw on Ebay started at $800. Thanks for watching!

I think this one and the Coleman family cabin tent are still the best design for setting up a camp for fishing or just a family getaway along a lake. It's why families had station wagons or trailer behind the family sedan. A light aluminum boat and or a canoe on top. No fast food except maybe ice cream, no motel or hotel and no fly over part of the country.

Its a bit more challenging to put up than the Timberline, but its a very roomy tent for sure. Daddy had an old Rambler Beach Wagon that we did all our camping in.
